What it is :

- A natural bay on the west coast of Salamis Island, Greece.

- Opens into the Saronic Gulf.

Location :

- Situated in the Aegean Sea region.

- About 16 km from Athens.

- Lies near the town of Salamis.

Key Features :

- Maximum length of approximately 9 km.
Cape Petriti forms its southwestern boundary.

- Historically important as the site of the Battle of Salamis (480 BCE), where the Greeks defeated the Persian fleet.

What it is :

- A large inland sea connected to the Mediterranean through a series of straits.

- Known for a unique stratified water system, where deep layers are anoxic (no oxygen) and filled with hydrogen sulfide.

Location :

- Situated at the southeastern extremity of Europe.

- Lies between Eastern Europe, South Caucasus, and Anatolia.

Neighbouring Nations :

- Ukraine
- Russia
- Georgia
- Turkey
- Bulgaria
- Romania

Key Features :

- Shape : Roughly oval basin;

- Connections : Linked to the Mediterranean via
Bosporus → Sea of Marmara → Dardanelles → Aegean Sea.

- Stratified Waters :

Upper layers → oxygenated, biologically rich.
Below ~150–200 m → anoxic, filled with hydrogen sulfide; supports only anaerobic bacteria.

- Geology : Remnant of the ancient Tethys Sea; shaped by tectonic uplift.

- Climate:

Northern shores → cold steppe climate.
Southern coasts → humid, subtropical climate.

What it is ?

- A major Pre-Pottery Neolithic archaeological site.

- One of the 12 settlements in Türkiye’s Taş Tepeler (Stone Hills) project.

- Considered among the earliest ritual–residential complexes.

Located in :

- Near the Syrian border

Features :

- Dates to around 9400–8000 BCE; inhabited for about 1,500 years.

- Built on a limestone plateau between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

- Includes residential structures, ritual enclosures, and T-shaped monoliths

- Represents one of the earliest symbolic and communal societies, before the spread of agriculture.

Major Discoveries :

- First human face carved on a T-shaped pillar.

- Stone figurines: stitched-lip sculptures, expressive stone faces, serpentinite beads.

- Anthropomorphic pillars with carved arms, hands, belts, and fur garments.

- Multiple animal–human hybrid carvings.

- Evidence of an organised society with strong symbolic and ritual practices.
