Venezuelan lawmakers yesterday approved the creation of a new state on its territory, which is the subject of a long-running dispute with neighboring Guyana.
The law approving the creation of the new state, called Guayana Esequibe, will come into force as soon as it is published in the official gazette.
According to the law, the state's borders will be the Atlantic Ocean in the north, Brazil in the south, Guyana in the east and the Venezuelan states of Delta Amacuro and Bolivar in the west.
