A Swedish diplomat describes Muslim women in Constantinople at the end of the 18th century:
🔴 Women of a certain rank appear in public only very rarely. It is not considered proper for them to leave the house unless they are compelled by necessity or it is absolutely indispensable. Therefore, on the streets one usually encounters only common women, who are nevertheless always veiled, behave very cautiously, and almost never speak to anyone. As a natural consequence of these customs, one hardly sees them at all. In no Mohammedan city are there women who run a shop, let alone sell goods in the streets or marketplaces. These various professions are carried out exclusively by men.🔴

One thing I’ve learned over the years of interactions and attempts at meaningful discussion is that most people are genuinely stupid.
Knowledge should have continued to be gate-kept, and the overwhelming majority of people should have remained illiterate.

The Mutakallimīn vs. the ʿĀrifīn?
There was a post that was spread around by ibn ʿArabī fanatics some time ago. They quoted an excerpt from ʿAbdullāh Sirāj al-Dīn’s book, which was a tribute to his father, Muḥammad Najīb Sirāj al-Dīn. It goes into his father’s manhaj.

The excerpt in that post was a copy-paste of the text from Pg.50 of the book (included above).
You can read it for yourself but to summarize:
ʿAbdullāh Sirāj al-Dīn claims that his father was very learned and well-read in ʿilm al-Tawḥīd, on both the methodology of the mutakallimīn and the ʿārifīn.
He says that his father had studied all the advanced works of kalām, such as al-Mawāqif, al-Maqāsid, and al-Ṭawāliʿ.
He also says that his father would read the works of al-Ghazālī and ibn ʿArabī, emphasizing the latter.
He then goes on to say that when the mutakallimīn and ʿārifīn disagreed on a matter, his father would side with the ʿārifīn, and then prove their position to be correct using adilla from the Qurʾān and Sunnah.
Akbarians would probably feel vindicated by that. However…

If we go to the next page, ʿAbdullāh Sirāj al-Dīn goes on to give an example of a masʾala where his father had (supposedly) sided with the ṣūfīs over the mutakallimīn:
If Allāh stopped sustaining creation, would creation freeze in place or return to complete non-existence?
The answer to the question above is rather obvious: Creation would return to total non-existence. And ʿAbdullāh Sirāj al-Dīn’s father agrees.
To my disappointment, however, he attributes this position solely to the ṣūfīs, and then misattributes the position of creation freezing in place to the mutakallimīn.
ʿAbdullāh Sirāj al-Dīn then proceeds to list the nuṣūṣ and āthār to support the position of creation returning to non-existence.
So, essentially, the preponderance given to the ʿārifīn was based on a mistake and a misattribution.

Take this as a reminder to actually verify information. If you see a quote or an excerpt, verify it directly from the source being cited (if it is even cited).
Accuracy and academic integrity is of little importance to cultists and fanatics.

For the sake of transparency and clarity:
- Ibn Taymiyyah is a mushrik kāfir murtad mulḥid zindīq.
- Salafīs are generally mubtadiʿah as a default, and a significant portion of them are kuffār.
- Salafism has been one of the most destructive movements in Islamic history.
