Those who deny actual fiqh and abuse Islam by picking single episodes from the sirah and or ayat/ahadith without context and true understanding will just quote when the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم refused to have the people of Ta'if punished and extend this as a general rule.

Or when he صلى الله عليه وسلم didn't punish some of the blasphemous mushrikin after the fath of Makkah.

This is the sort of abuse of religion with extrapolated twisted references and a paint of Islamic-sounding slogans that is in reality a denial of the correct understanding of the texts as held by 14 centuries of Muslims from one corner to another of the Islamic world.

This deformist "salafi" methodology is the backbone of all modernists and all istikhbarati-academia twisting: they all adopt the classical-fiqh-bypassing "going back directly to the Qur'an and Sunnah" and "authentic original pristine actual Izlaam over culture and man-made fiqh" deception slogans to twist nusus through a modern liberal filter.

All modernism passes through the destruction of classical traditional fiqh.

The destructive perpetual cycle:

1 - Neglect aḥkām.
2 - Become weaker due to 1.
3 - Compromise on more rulings due to 2.
4 - Become complacent with 3.
5 - Try to defend and justify 4 with 2-3.
6 - More of 1 and the cycle repeats itself.

You people lack self-awareness.

And when someone tries to address 1 in an attempt to break the cycle:

Question (71): In university girls and boys want to take a group photo together, keeping some distance between them. Is this permissible?

Answer (71): It is not permissible for men and women to engage in ikhtilat (mixing, interacting, or socializing). It is also not permissible for a woman to uncover her face in front of non-mahram men.

Imām al-Kāsānī (d. 587 AH) states:

وأما المرأة فلأنها مشغولة بخدمة الزوج ممنوعة عن الخروج إلى محافل الرجال لكون الخروج سببا للفتنة

“As for the woman…she is preoccupied with serving her husband and is prohibited from emerging to gatherings of men, as emerging (to them) is a cause of fitnah.” (Badā’i‘ al-Ṣanā’i‘, 2:186)
