NEW UṢŪL AL-FIQH JUST DROPPED!
I find it so interesting that despite now having technology that can easily facilitate women learning without even having to leave the house, we use the “modern times” argument to JUSTIFY them leaving the house MORE often.
Heck, with all the online delivery options these days, they really don’t need to leave the house for almost anything!
But you know, they WANT to leave the house and go out and all that so we now need to revise fiqh and come up with all sorts of mental gymnastics to make sure the women have it EXACTLY as they want it.
Despite living in a time where women are the MOST uncovered, improperly dressed, and lacking respect in general, we are becoming more and more lax on gender segregation and we continue to bend over backwards to give them more. As if they aren’t entitled enough! How brilliant.
Please keep in mind that how we organize the masājid is one of the few things we DO actually have a say in when it comes to the filthy modern world where Muslims have almost no control over the economy, social norms, or anything else.
With this line of reasoning, you may as well abandon the maḏāhib and adopt the methodology of Muḥammad ʿAbdūh. Because that is the trajectory here.

I believe the Sharʿī ḥukm on women using the internet should be similar to that of traveling or leaving the house:
She must be under the constant supervision of her walī, and that walī must fulfill certain conditions for him to be qualified.
No competent walī = No Internet.

The problem with many emotional reactionaries here is that they throw tantrums over symptoms but never think to cure the disease.

Here’s a tip:
With all the filthy ideologies out there today, don’t take your knowledge of the Dīn from people who have apostatized in the past because they got shubuhāt about the rulings of the Dīn that contradict modernist sensibilities.
They likely came back to the Dīn through apologetics and the watering down of “controversial” rulings. These guys, in reality, have a deep-rooted issue with Islām, which they try to suppress.
They will cherrypick quotes and do all sorts of mental gymnastics to appease certain subgroups of people who claim Islām, themselves included.

I find it so amusing how just knowing one or two views of an individual on specific topics can immediately help you map out where along the spectrum of modernism they fall.
Human psychology (the actual science, not the modern leftist institution) is very useful.

The “extremist” label is quite stupid given that “extremism” is relative.
A traditionalist is “extreme” in the eyes of the reformist, and the reformist is still “extreme” in the eyes of the radical secularist.
What modern Muslims don’t realize is that the more you compromise on principles and rulings, the more you leave actual practicing Muslims vulnerable to being labelled as “extremists” and to all the consequences that come with that.
