1. India's coastline expanded by 47.6% from 7,516 km to 11,098 km due to revised measurement techniques. New methodology includes bays, estuaries & inlets for precision. 

2.
Gujarat leads with 2,340 km, followed by Tamil Nadu (1,068 km) & Andhra Pradesh (1,053 km). 



3. Notable Changes: West Bengal saw a 357% rise, while Puducherry recorded a rare 10.4% decrease.

4. Calcium Carbonate Formation – The islands are entirely composed of calcium carbonate, primarily from coral reef organisms.
5. Longest Underwater Cave System – Lucayan National Park houses the world’s longest known underwater cave and cavern system.
6. Clearest Waters – The Bahamas boasts the clearest waters globally, with visibility exceeding 61 meters (200 feet).
7. Deepest Alga Growth – A unique light-dependent alga is found at greater depths in The Bahamas than anywhere else on Earth.

India’s coastline has been recalculated as 11,098.81 km from 7,561.60 km – up by 3,537.21 km or nearly 50 per cent. This is due to a change in the methodology of calculation, according to a circular issued by the Union Shipping Ministry.
