Since 6AM this morning about 60 climate protectors of the "No (S)hell on Earth" action group have installed multiple blockades at the Shell refinery in Wesseling, near Cologne!✊
The activists have kayaks, tripods and lockons. Multiple police units have arrived to the area to evict the blockades, so the capitalists can continue to destroy our beautiful planet without being disturbed. 🤬
The action is part of the decentralised action days #AufstandMitAbstand ("resistance with distance").
The activists are extending solidarity with the #Ogoni people in the #NigerDelta & with #Syndikat in Berlin, which is facing eviction today. ✊

It is 25 years ago today that the Ogoni 9 were hanged. They were nine climate activists in Ogoniland, Nigeria, who sparked a mass movement against Shell's oil production there. After being tortured in prison, an unfair process followed and they were hanged. Shell's involvement and influence that led to this is obvious, but became crystal clear in court cases that followed. To this day Nigeria is still suffering from massive pollution cause by leaking oil pipelines.
There were nine actions at iconic Shell locations in the Netherlands today, each telling a chapter in the story of the Ogoni people and remembering one of the Ogoni 9.
We honored and remembered:
Nordu Eawo in Groningen at the NAM office (XR Groningen and Code Rood Groningen)
Daniel Gbooke in Hengelo with a mourning circle at the Oyfo techniekmuseum, which is sponsored by Shell (XR Deventer and XR Enschede)
Paul Levula by hanging a banner above the main entrance of Shell HQ in Den Haag (XR Den Haag)
Baribor Bera by protesting at the office of Staatsbosbeheer in Amersfoort who are helping Shell pretend you can drive Co2 neutral by planting trees (Code Rood)
Saturday Dobee by climbing a Shell art piece near the Shell research center in Amsterdam (Shell Must Fall)
Felix Nuate in Leiden at the Boerhaave museum, which is sponsored by Shell (XR Leiden and Doorbraak)
John Kpuine from the top of one of Shell's oil refineries in the Rotterdam port (XR Rotterdam)
Barinem Kiobel by exposing newspaper NRC for publishing Shell branded content (Reclame Fossielvrij)
Ken Saro-Wiwa by projecting his famous poem 'Dance' on the Nemo science museum in Amsterdam, which is also sponsored by Shell (Fossil Free Culture NL)
There is more information about the actions here: https://code-rood.org/nl/2020/11/10/solidariteitsacties-ogoni-9-10-november-2020/ .
