Tonight, we are celebrating Shab-e Yalda (Shab-e Chelleh) in Iran.
🔹️Shab-e Yalda, also known as Shab-e Chelleh, is an ancient Iranian festival that celebrates the winter solstice, the longest and darkest night of the year.
🔹️It is a time when people gather with their friends and family to eat fruits and nuts, especially pomegranates and watermelons, and read poetry, especially by Hafez.
🔹️The festival has its roots in the pre-Islamic Zoroastrian tradition, and is associated with the birth of Mithra, the god of light. Shab-e Yalda is also the beginning of the “big Chelleh” period, which lasts for 40 days and nights until the end of winter.
