Last year, I led efforts in Congress to recognize RSF-led atrocities in Sudan, which have contributed to over 150k deaths, as genocide. In January, it became U.S. policy. Now, #Kenya, a U.S. ally, is helping the RSF legitimize their genocidal rule in #Sudan under the guise of peacemaking—this is an unthinkable attempt to obscure the truth and will not end the massacre.
Hamas’ cruelty never ends. Even as we mourn the murder of two children in captivity, their mother’s whereabouts remain unknown in clear violation of the ceasefire agreement. Hamas’ barbaric terrorism is exactly why they deserve no place in this world.
Reports that Thailand may imminently send 48 Uyghur men back to China are deeply troubling, as these men face torture, imprisonment, and even death upon return. The U.S. has put practical options on the table to resolve this issue in a way that upholds our shared commitment to internationally-recognized human rights. We urge Thai leaders to engage with the U.S. on those proposals, rather than take this ill-advised step. foreign.senate.gov/press/rep/rele…
President Trump’s repeal of the Biden Administration’s NSM-20 is excellent news. The Biden policy was ultimately nothing more than a virtue signal to the progressive left in an effort to influence domestic election politics--it was conceived of as a means to embarrass our ally Israel in its time of need. In practice, it drove a wedge between the United States and our partners, and opened the door to Russia and China. Anyone who is lamenting the ending of this policy today is shamefully cheering for this empty political gesture that ultimately made the United States and its allies less safe. America is back. foreign.senate.gov/press/rep/rele…
American Israeli Edan Alexander still remains in Hamas captivity, along with the remains of several other Americans who were murdered at the hands of barbarians. President Trump, and Congress, have and will continue to do everything in our power to return him safely to his loved ones. Hamas is a vicious and evil organization that should be wiped from the face of the earth for their atrocities.
I welcome leaders of @AIPAC who I know will have another productive summit this year as they work to strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship.
The Chinese government has effectively ended Hong Kong’s autonomy. Once a thriving hub for international business, Hong Kong is now a seat of authoritarian oppression: the rule of law is disregarded, free speech is silenced, and dissent is met with persecution. This is most starkly demonstrated in the imprisonment of media entrepreneur and pro-democracy advocate Jimmy Lai. The collapse of Hong Kong’s legal and political freedoms has also created a risk-filled environment for businesses. I urge all American companies to reconsider their business presence in Hong Kong and join me in demanding the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners. foreign.senate.gov/press/rep/rele…
Yesterday I was glad to meet with Greek Foreign Minister Gerapetritis. Greece is a valuable ally to the U.S. and plays an important role in European and Eastern Mediterranean security, and our conversation reflected that.
President Trump and his administration continues its maximum pressure campaign against Iran – this is what real action looks like. My legislation to work with regional partners to counter Iranian drones would amplify this effort – Democrats should stop blocking it. home.treasury.gov/news/press-rel…
America’s counterterrorism partners in Syria, the Kurdish SDF, have reached an agreement to integrate with the Syrian interim authorities. The SDF broke the Islamic State and has been a valuable partner to the U.S. We must ensure this integration doesn’t take our eyes off the Islamic State and the prisons in northeast Syria – both are very real threats to Americans and the homeland.

Today, the committee heard from three of President Trump’s nominees to be ambassadors to Canada, Japan, and Mexico. I was glad to hear about their plans to improve our important bilateral relationships with these countries as we all work to make America safer, stronger, and more prosperous. foreign.senate.gov/press/rep/rele…
The consequences of a return to conflict in war-torn Tigray and nearby regions, which was one of the deadliest of the 21st century, would be catastrophic. Ethiopia and Eritrea must urgently deescalate tensions immediately.
