On this day, August 1st 1917, fellow worker Frank Little was murdered in Butte, Montana. His gravestone reads: "Slain by capitalist interests for organizing and inspiring his fellow workers.”

2nd August 1984. A convoy organised by the print union Sogat 82 carrying 130 tons of food left London and headed north to mining communities in Yorkshire and the Midlands.
