General market update
The total market cap of all cryptocurrencies has surged beyond $1 trillion for the first time in over a month, CoinMarketCap data shows. The return to this psychologically significant threshold comes after Bitcoin broke through $22,000. This price point has proven a stubborn level of resistance for BTC in recent weeks, with bulls given a boost after they successfully avoided a sustained fall below $20,000. But it's Ether that's by far the best performer on a seven-day timeframe.

The launch of SandwichSAFU (tiered-system launchpad) has been postponed until better market conditions, for this reason we will now also weekly recap on the current cryptocurrency market.

General market update
The Federal Reserve has increased its base interest rate by three-quarters of a percentage point for the second time in a row. Bitcoin accelerated to $23,300 in the hours after the announcement was made — the Nasdaq closed up 4.2%. Some analysts had feared the Fed would hike rates by a full percentage point in its quest to tackle inflation. The U.S. central bank has warned further increases may be needed in the months ahead, but there are fears this could spark a recession.

The Ethereum Foundation has revealed that the long-awaited merge will be completed between Sept. 10 and 20. This means the historic switch from a proof-of-work to a proof-of-stake blockchain could take place a few days earlier than advertised. It comes after a series of repeated delays — and it's worth remembering this milestone was meant to have been achieved back in 2019.

Bitcoin is struggling to stay above $20,000 — falling below this psychologically significant price point for the seventh day in a row. And if history is a guide, September's shaping up to be a challenging month. Since 2017, the world's biggest cryptocurrency has ended every September in negative territory, data from Coinglass shows. Some analysts are especially worried about what will happen if BTC dips below the 52-week low of $17,708.62 — and predict a new crypto contagion could sweep the market, tipping even more companies into bankruptcy. Bitcoin's value plunged by 13.8% last month, in what was the worst August performance since 2015. The Fed's interest rate rises — and fears of a recession — are fueling uncertainty.

There is a long list of new tokens with names in poor taste such as Queen Elizabeth Inu, Save the Queen, Queen, QueenDoge, London Bridge is Down and Rip Queen Elizabeth. Crypto degens have wasted no time after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, flooding the crypto market with more than 40 new Queen-related meme tokens, and hundreds of new non fungible tokens (NFTs) in the same vein. Queen Elizabeth II passed away aged 96 and was the longest serving monarch of a sovereign country, with 70 years and 214 days at the helm in England. She received strong support from English citizens and held monarchy approval rates of around 90% at times during her reign.
