Howdy yall sorry for the time between posts, alot of things have happened over the past few days.

1. The plum trees came into bloom...... I didn't know I had plum trees🤣

2. We got the second layer on our lasagna/back to eden garden laid out. And started getting the compost on the top today.
Layers are as follows, forest floor duff (thank you Jesus), deep bedding from the winter (manure and hay)
And then compost from a friend!

3. We also modified our chicken coop so that the door could keep the goats out and allow the chickens to come and go freely.

4. We made a new addition to the farm. Meet our new Tom turkey named Angus!!! He is a bourbon red and hopefully just the first of a new flock. As soon as we find a hen he will have more company, until then he can hang out with the chickens and goats
THANKS FOR FOLLOWING!!!

Welcome to the new episode S&B's cribs. My name is Angus and I am about to move into this awesome new house that my dad built for me in just 3 hours... (you can tell it) no magic is happening here yet because I am single and ready to mingle so if you are a pretty hen and in need of a home hit me up
It's raining today, so probably not much exciting going on. I'm thankful for the rain though, because apparently much of the US is in super drought. So every drop is a blessing.
Well yall it is finally done... ish. Everything that I have to direct seed is planted. I still have a lot of mater and pepper starts and a few other things as well in the green house waiting to go in. It's been a hard few days but totally worth it to see it all in there. A friend and I were talking about technique the other day. I told him that mine was to pray, plant, pray, water, and pray again😁. Gardening is not my forte. But maybe my technique will win out this year! Yall have a blessed day
Farming in the woods. Shoot  just plain living in the woods can be exciting, dangerous, exhilarating and depressing all rolled into one. It comes with alot of challenges. Permaculture, if you follow that teaches about zones. I am not sure about all of the zones except for #1 and #5.

Zone 1 is where you do all of your living. So basically all around and in your house. This is where you want your garden to be as well anything that needs constant attention.

Zone 5 is the places that you leave wild or don't touch at the moment. For one of 2 reasons. One reason you want to preserve the wild landscape or as is my case you haven't had the time to put your dreams into action.
Now we will delve into history. As far back as you look mankind has lived in the edge of forests and woods. Even Adam lived in a garden not a forest. Very seldom do you see a people group living in the forest. There are several reasons behind this. For one even though we are the alpha, the apex predator on every continent, we are still capable of being hunted. All of the other predators live in the woods from big cats to wolves and just about everything inbetween. It is just safer to live on the edge. For two it is dark in the woods. Man needs light. Sunshine is normally limited on the forest floor where we would live.
The sunlight is a very important aspect of all of this for my family. All of us work a regular grind over night. I personally do 12 hours. So sunlight is very important to me and I get it as often as I can. As for my wife she struggles with S.A.D. ( seasonal affective disorder) which is basically a fancy way of saying that she gets depression from lack of sunlight. So in the interest of preserving all of our mental health we will be thinning the woods behind our house.

Now no one freak out on me. I don't plan to cut it all down just the part that seperates our house from the pasture. I plan to leave all of the larger trees and selecting the nicer new growth to leave. All the rest will be thinned. But the remaining woods that aren't behind the house will be kept to run hogs and goats through rotationally.

Enjoy the progress so far!

As a side note.  In regards to permaculture and ya know what everything else. I'm talking the whole labeling thing. Regenerative, sustainable, organic, forest raised, pasture raised, free range, cage free, horticulture, permaculture whatever. They are all just words, and I am past the word smiting game. There is good farming and bad farming, good and bad stewardship. Just felt like throwing that out there. Yall have a very blessed day!!!
Good Sunday morning to everyone. We will be spending the day building fence in trade for a little piece of land for an old neighbor of ours. It's not much, but it is ours. Maybe a future site for a farm stand. How cool would that be? Have a good day everyone. Spend some time with our savior Jesus Christ. Thank Him and talk with Him. He's always there no matter what
Well guys and gals we got some great news!!! The tree trimmers came up my road yesterday and while they are working in my area they are going to use my property to dump on!!!! I am praying for at the minimum 5 or 10 loads but I would love to have 30 or 40😁
