💎From Ibn Masood -Radhi Allaah anhu- that the Prophet –SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:
خَيْرُ النَّاسِ قَرْنِي ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ يَجِيءُ أَقْوَامٌ تَسْبِقُ شَهَادَةُ أَحَدِهِمْ يَمِينَهُ، وَيَمِينُهُ شَهَادَتَهُ .
'The best people are my generation, then those who came after them, then those who came after them, then there will come people whose testimony precedes them taking his oath and his oath precedes his testimony.' [i.e. they rush to give oath and testify, and belittle them.]

💎Shaykh Muhammad Nasirud-Deen Al-Albaani quoted the Ayah and commented:
{وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ}
‘<< And follows other than the believers’ path>> the secret is that the foremost believers are those who conveyed to us what they heard directly and conveyed what had recently been revealed to the Messenger -alayhi as-Salam- taking it directly from his lips.
They applied the revelation at the Messenger’s time, so it was practically implemented. They were capable of understanding what Allaah revealed to His Prophet in His Book, and what Allaah conveyed with His Prophet -alayhi as-Salam- with his wording. They were capable of understanding that better than everyone who came after them, how can that not be the case? As the Messenger -alayhi as-Salam- said:
«الشاهد يرى ما لا يرى الغائب»
‘The witness sees that which an absent person does not see.’
Take for example, when Allaah Ta’ala said:
وَالسَّارِقُ وَالسَّارِقَةُ فَاقْطَعُوا أَيْدِيَهُمَا
<< Cut off the (right) hand of the thief, male or female >> [Maidah:38] the word ‘hand’ in the Arabic language also includes the palm, and this word can also mean along with the palm the forearm, and it can also apply and mean along with the forearm the bicep.
Do you see, how can we understand the word ‘hand’ in this Ayah:
<< Cut off the (right) hand >>?
Likewise it has been mentioned in the Ayah of Tayyamum:
فَتَيَمَّمُوا صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا فَامْسَحُوا بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَأَيْدِيكُمْ
<< perform Tayammum with clean earth and rub therewith your faces and hands (Tayammum) >> [Nisa: 43]
How can we understand the word ‘hand’ here, do we understand it as it is mentioned here or a meaning more general?
If we do not return to the clear explanation which was indicated to in the Ayah then we would differ and be confused:
{وَأَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الذِّكْرَ لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيْهِمْ}
<< And We have also sent down unto you (O Muhammad) the reminder and the advice (the Qur'aan), that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them >>
[Nahl: 44]
We return back to the clear explanation because the Noble Qur’aan was revealed in the clear Arabic tongue, the word ‘Hand’ has a number of meaning. However, when we return to the Companions we find that they conveyed the Sharia of Allaah, as was implemented by the Messenger of Allaah -SallAllaahu alayhi wa Ahli wa sallam, and they understood this Sharia correctly, and indeed the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa Ahli wa sallam- praised the Companions, when he said:
«خير الناس قرني»
‘the best of the people are my generation.’
And he said:
«أكرموا أصحابي»
‘Honour my Companions.’
He -SallAllaahu alayhi wa Ahli wa sallam- also said:
«أحسنوا إلى أصحابي، فوالذي نفس محمد بيده! لوأنفق أحدكم مثل جبل أحد ذهباً ما بلغ مد أحدهم ولا نصيفه»
‘Be kind to my Companions, I swear by Whom in His Hand is the soul of Muhammad. If one of you spent the like of mount Uhud in gold, you would not reach the equivalent of a Mudd (a certain weight) of one of the Companions, not even half a Mudd.’[1]

This is because they did Jihad in the path of Allaah, migrated in the path of Allaah, they left their lands in the path of Allaah, they accompanied the Messenger of Allaah -SallAllaahu alayhi wa Ahli wa sallam, they knew the Sharia of Allaah – like we said- from near and far.
Therefore, they are the like of what the Messenger -alayhi as-Salam- mentioned in some Ahadeeth:
«هم القوم لا يشقى جليسهم»
‘They are a people when you sit with them you will not be saddened.’
Therefore, it is upon everyone who wants to be from the Firaqat an-Najiya (the saved sect) that he should not be content with just knowing the Qur’aan and the Sunnah alone, and even if for the sake of argument he is content, and even if he can only reach to understanding the Book and the Sunnah with this impairment [of without the understanding of the Salaf], he will lose out from being from the Firqat an-Najiya, and to be upon what the Companions of the Messenger -alayhi as-Sallat wa Sallam- were upon.
Therefore, it is possible for us to summarise what preceded from what was said in detail and in the explanation, so that we can build upon this summary a further research.
It is necessary for every Muslim after testifying that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah -SallAllaahu Alayhi wa Ahli wa Sallam- and to know the way to understand what the Messenger of Allaah was upon, is the Sunnah and it is ‘the Companions’, or in another expression, ‘the Salaf as-Salih’.
This is because the Prophet -SallAllaahu Alayhi wa Ahli wa Sallam- said in a Hadeeth which is Mutawatir:
«خير الناس قرني ثم الذين يلونهم ثم الذين يلونهم»
‘The best of the people are my generation then those who come after them, then those after them.’
It is necessary for a Muslim to acquaint himself with what the Messenger’s Companions were upon, otherwise he will go very far astray, whereby, they thought that they were acquiring good by their deeds!

خير الناس قرني
قال الشيخ محمد ناصر الدين الألباني:
Therefore, they are the like of what the Messenger -alayhi as-Salam- mentioned in some Ahadeeth:
«هم القوم لا يشقى جليسهم»
‘They are a people when you sit with them you will not be saddened.’

قوله: (( ويتبع غير سبيل المؤمنين )) كان الله على ذلك قديرا فلماذا إذا ؟ ما الحكمة من عطفه عز وجل قوله: (( ويتبع غير سبيل المؤمنين )) على (( ومن يشاقق الرسول )) أظن عرفتم السر في ذلك من الأحاديث التي أوردناها لكم (( ويتبع غير سبيل المؤمنين )) السر أنّ هؤلاء المؤمنين الأوّلين هم الذين نقلوا إلينا ما سمعوه من الرّسول عليه السّلام من فمه غضّا طريّا و وجدوه مطبقا في عهده عليه الصلاة والسلام تطبيقا عمليا فهم يستطيعون أن يفهموا ما أنزل الله على نبيّه من كتابه و ما نطق به هو نبيّه عليه السّلام بلفظه هم يستطيعون أن يفهموا ذلك أحسن من كل من يأتي من بعدهم كيف لا؟ والأمر كما قال عليه الصلاة والسلام: ( الشاهد يرى ما لا يرى الغائب ) ، خذوا مثلا قال تعالى: (( والسارق والسارقة فاقطعوا أيديهما )) فاليد في اللغة تطلق ويراد الكف وتطلق ويراد مع الكف الذراع وتطلق ويراد بها الذراع مع العضد ترى كيف بنا أن نفهم اليد في هذه الآية (( فاقطعوا أيديهما ))؟ كما أن هناك في آية التيمم (( فتيمموا صعيدا طيّبا فامسحوا بوجوهكم وأيديكم )) كيف نفهم الأيدي هنا أنفهمها كما هي هناك أو بمعنى أوسع ؟ إذا لم نعد إلى المبين المشار إليه في الآية الأولى (( وأنزلنا إليك الذكر لتبين للناس ما نزل إليهم )) اختلفنا واضطربنا ذلك لأن القرآن الكريم نزل بلسان عربي مبين و اليد لها هذه المعاني العديدة لكننا حينما نعود إلى الصحابة ونجدهم ينقلون أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ما قطع يد السارق من عند المنكب ولا قطعها من عند المرفق وإنما قطعها من عند الرسغ كذلك لما نعود وأرجو الانتباه لما أقول إلى الأحاديث الصححية وهذه اللفظة الصحيحة لا بد لي من أن أتطرق لها قريبا إن شاء الله وإذا رجعنا إلى الأحاديث الصحيحة التي نقلها لنا أصحاب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من قوله وفعله فيما يتعلق بآية التيمم (( فامسحوا بوجوهكم و أيديكم )) لوجدناهم أنهم رأوا الرسول وإذا رجعنا إلى الأحاديث الصحيحة التي نقلها لنا أصحاب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من قوله وفعله فيما يتعلق بآية التيمم: (( فامسحوا بوجوهكم وأيدكم )) لوجدناهم أنّهم رأوا الرّسول يسمح بكفّيه وسمعوا من الرسول يقول: ( التيمّم ضربة واحدة ) وليس ضريتين ويمسح بهما كفيه ووجهه ، إذا لا نستطيع إطلاقا أن نستغني عن سبيل المؤمنين لأن هؤلاء المؤمنون هم الذين نقلوا إلينا شريعة الله مطبقة من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم وفهموا هذه الشريعة فهما صحيحا فلا جرم أنّ النّبيّ صلّى الله عليه وآله وسلّم أثنى عليهم فقال: ( خير الناس قرني ) وقال: ( أكرموا أصحابي ) وقال: ( أحسنوا إلى أصحابي فو الذي نفس محمد بيده لو أنفق أحدكم مثل جبل أحد ذهبا ما بلغ مد أحدهم و لا نصيفه ) ذلك لأنهم جاهدوا في سبيل وهاجروا في سبيل الله وتركوا أوطانهم في سبيل الله واصحبوا رسول الله صلى اله عليه وسلم وعرفوا شريعة الله كما قلنا عن كثب وعن قرب فإذا هم كما جاء في بعض الأحاديث هم القوم لا يشقى بهم جليسهم
فإذا على كل من كان يريد أن يكون من الفرقة الناجية أن لا يقنع فقط أن يعرف القرآن والسنة فقط فهو إن قنع وإن استطاع أن يصل إلى فهم الكتاب والسنة فقط ولو بهذا التّفقيط فسيخسر أن يكون من الفرقة الناجية أن يكون على ما كان عليه أصحابه عليه الصلاة والسلام ، إذا يمكننا أن نلخّص الآن ما مضى من الكلام مفصّلا مشروحا لنبني على هذه الخلاصة بحثا جديدا ... .
لا بد لكل مسلم بعد أن يشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأن محمدا رسول الله أن يعلم أن طريق معرفة ما كان عليه رسول الله هي السنة وهي الصحابة وبعبارة أخرى السلف الصالح لأن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال في الحديث المتواتر: ( خير الناس قرني ثم الذين يلونهم ثم الذين يلونهم ) ، فلا بد من أن يتعرف المسلم على ما كان عليه أصحابه صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم وإلا ضل ضلالا بعيدا من حيث إنه يحسب أنه يحسن صنعا .

“Upon a person is to have faith in the narrations, and not to reject a single word from them, nor from other Ahādeeth which have been reported by reliable, trustworthy narrators—he is not to argue with anyone, nor dispute and nor should he learn how to argue [in such matters]—for indeed, speculative theological discussions (kalām) concerning the Pre-Decree, Ar-Ru’yah (Seeing Allah in the Hereafter), the Qur’ān and other affairs of the Sunnah is detested and forbidden.
The one who engages in speculative theology—even if he reaches the truth with his words—is not from Ahlus-Sunnah until he abandons argumentation and submits in the Āthār (i.e., narrations of the Prophet (ﷺ) and his Companions) and believes in them.”
