The Effects of mmW and THz Radiation on Dry Eyes: A Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) Computational Simulation Using XFdtd

Abstract

The importance of investigating the health effects of RF radiation on the cornea cannot be overstated. This study aimed to address this need by utilizing a mathematical simulation to examine the absorption of millimeter wave (mmW) and terahertz (THz) waves by the cornea, considering both normal and pathological conditions. The simulation incorporated variations in tear film thickness and hydration levels, as these factors play a crucial role in corneal health. To assess the impact of RF radiation on the cornea, the study calculated temperature rises, which indicate heating effects for both dry and normal eyes. XFdtd, a widely used commercial software based on the Finite-Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method, was employed to evaluate the radiation absorption and resulting temperature changes. The outcomes of this study demonstrated a crucial finding, i.e., that changes in the water ratio and thickness of the tear film, which are associated with an increased risk of dry eye syndrome, directly impact the absorption of mmW and THz waves by the cornea. This insight provides valuable evidence supporting the interconnection between tear film properties and the vulnerability of the cornea to RF radiation.

Conclusions

With the advances in 5G technology and the future development of potential 6G operating systems, there is growing anticipation for higher frequencies reaching up to 4 THz in the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum. With the increase in frequency, reaching significantly beyond 6 GHz, the penetration depth decreases, resulting in a more significant deposition of EM energy within superficial tissues with a high water content, such as the cornea. In this study, we analyzed the power density and electric field distributions and the resulting temperature rise in the cornea when exposed to plane waves ranging from 30 GHz to 0.5 THz. Our findings indicate that the impact of mmW and THz radiation on the cornea may be slightly more noticeable in the case of dry eyes. However, further investigation is needed through in vivo studies to gain deeper insights into these effects and their potential implications.

Abstract:

TeraHertz (THz) band communications are envisioned as a key technology for 6G and Beyond. As a fundamental wireless infrastructure, THz communication can boost abundant promising applications. In 2014, our team published two comprehensive roadmaps for the development and progress of THz communication networks which helped the research community to start research on this subject afterwards. In particular, this topic became very important and appealing to the research community due to 6G wireless systems design and development in recent years. Many papers are getting published covering different aspects of wireless systems using the THz band. In this talk, our aim is looking back at the last decade and revisiting the old problems and pointing out what has been achieved in the research community so far. Furthermore, still to be investigated research challenges for the THz band communication systems are presented by covering diverse subtopics such as from device perspectives, channel behavior, communication and networking problems, physical testbeds and demonstration systems. The presented key aspects will enable THz communications as a pillar of 6G and Beyond wireless systems in the next decade.

Bio:

I.F. Akyildiz (Life Fellow, IEEE) received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Erlangen–Nürnberg, Germany, in 1978, 1981, and 1984, respectively. He is the Ken Byers Chair Professor Emeritus in Telecommunications, the Past Chair of the Telecom Group at the ECE, and the Director of the Broadband Wireless Networking Laboratory, Georgia Institute of Technology, where he served from 1985 until 2020. He is an Advisory Board member at the Technology Innovation Institute (TII-ARRC) Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, since June 2020. He is also Founder and President of the Truva Inc., a consulting company based in Georgia, USA, since 1989. He is the Founder and the Editor-in-Chief of the newly established of International Telecommunication Union Journal on Future and Evolving Technologies (ITU J-FET) since August 2020. He had many international affiliations during his career and established research centers in Spain, South Africa, Finland, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Russia, India and Cyprus. Dr. Akyildiz is an IEEE Fellow since 1996, and ACM Fellow since 1997. He received numerous awards from IEEE, ACM, and other professional organizations, including Humboldt Award from Germany and Tubitak Award from Turkey. In June 2022, according to Google Scholar his h-index is 135 and the total number of citations to his articles is more than 139+K. His current research interests include Networking 2030, Metaverse, Hologram and Extended Reality Communication, 6G/7G wireless systems, Terahertz Communication, Underwater Communication.

We seem to be witnessing all new levels of unconventional warfare as the philanthropaths ramp up their drive toward Agenda 2030. Of course, we can’t prove that yet, but let’s look at the facts to see where things logically point.

“We delivered the USAF’s first-ever operational directed energy weapons,” he said. “As part of the Air Force Directed Energy Experimentation campaign, AFRL characterized and deployed four directed energy counter unmanned aerial systems to overseas locations – three Raytheon High Energy Laser Weapon Systems and the AFRL Tactical High Power Operational Responder (THOR) system – we built THOR in-house in 18- months, a record breaking time. As part of these efforts, AFRL secured the Secretary of Defense approval for operational use of all systems.”

Cybercrime Becomes a Major Concern

While those surveyed cited identity theft and theft of personal and financial information as their major concerns, the advent of 5G and the so-called Internet of Things (IoT) will make those concerns pale in comparison.

Death by Connected Car or Medical Device?

While computer viruses, ransomware, Trojan horses, and other malware have created headaches including computer downtime, lost data and financial losses, these malware programs are not believed to have led to major loss of life yet.

But if critical elements of our daily lives become wirelessly connected to the internet, the possibility for loss of life increases. Allowing control of these elements through wireless signals invites mischief and mayhem. It has already been demonstrated that today’s automobiles can be hijacked remotely by sophisticated hackers who access its wireless communications system and send signals that control the steering, brakes, transmission and dashboard.

Security experts have shown that wirelessly controlled insulin pumps (used by diabetics) and pacemakers (implanted to keep the heart beating regularly) can be hacked remotely. No loss of life has yet been reported. But security is so lax for such devices that they pose a threat to whoever uses them.

It’s even possible that a determined hacker could be hired to kill someone by remotely reprogramming or interfering with a critical medical device or even a router connected to one. Would the authorities even know that a murder was committed?

Supporting evidence: 


1) Well known former NSA contractor Edward Snowden who specialized in electronic surveillance acknowledged this program by name as an operational weapon.


2) Hewlett Packard has been in the process of using stratospheric aerosol injection to place nanotechnology around the world to construct the Internet of Things. It stands to reason the private company HP had to get permission from the Federal government to place smart chips all over the earth including in humanity by breathing them in. 


3) Materials extracted from people tested by Dr. Citovsky produced positive returns of nanotechnology which were later confirmed to be bio-engineered Agrobacterium. Agrobacterium possesses the property of growing the nanotechnology into an artificial nervous system in the host body. When these fibers breach the skin the symptom is referred to by sufferers as Morgellons Disease.


 Conclusions: 

 1. It is possible and appears the US Government conspired with private corporations to deliver an infectious agent to the American people for mind, population, and environmental control reasons against our rights for the purposes of taking our liberties. 

2. The possibility is a security threat, a human rights threat, and threatens our very way of life. With a single decision, our country could change from a representative democracy to an aristocratic technocracy. 

3. As the technology becomes more widely available due to NSA admission that it is now out of their control, criminals will use it against innocent people causing harm through manipulation to victims who don't even realized they're being attacked. Proposed Solution: New legislation to meet these challenges include developing defense, securing our rights with a Constitutional Amendment, and reviewing what signal bands are safe to use verses those that create public health hazards.
