"Consumers should be wary of IoB devices because, as it's becoming more and more popular, all of this intimate data is being collected, arguably more intimate data than we've ever really recorded before. There's no clarity on what is being done with that data. You know, with an old mechanical pacemaker, there's no data that was being collected and stored, and, you know, you could look at a history of someone's heart rhythms.

Because policy tends to lag behind innovative technologies like this, it's probably up to the consumers and to the health care patients to really be aware of the devices that they're using and what is happening to their data and to know what the regulations are in their particular state, because it does vary so much state by state. IoB Security Risks
IoB devices can be prone to the same security flaws of IoT devices, or any other technology that stores information in the cloud. But, given the nature of IoB devices and the data they collect, the stakes are particularly high. Vulnerabilities could allow unauthorized parties to leak private information, tamper with data, or lock users out of their accounts.

Challenges and implications of using ultrasonic communications in intra body area networks

Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS) (historically referred to as "Microwave Sickness") is an illness that is both highly controversial and little understood. The symptoms can vary a lot between sufferers, but will normally include some of the following: sleep disturbance, tiredness, depression, headaches, restlessness, irritability, concentration problems, forgetfulness, learning difficulties, frequent infections, blood pressure changes, limb and joint pains, numbness or tingling sensations, tinnitus, hearing loss, impaired balance, giddiness and eye problems. MacKillop highlights that powerful stakeholders and companies, such as Amazon, Google, Tesla, Walmart, and Starbucks, are deeply invested in these developments. The World Economic Forum and the International Electrotechnical Commission are key players in the decision-making processes.

The urgency of this matter cannot be understated. The looming introduction of a “Central Bank Digital Currency” and a controlled “Internet of bodies and things” is disconcerting. The potential loss of personal freedom, privacy, and autonomy is a harsh reality that cannot be ignored.

The most shocking revelation is the lack of public awareness about these developments. MacKillop stresses that the government does not seek public opinions on these matters; instead, they cater to the interests of shareholders and corporations. Politicians appear complicit; even the media may be silent on these crucial issues.

Thus, it becomes the responsibility of individuals to educate themselves and engage in open discussions about Bio-Digital Convergence. 2010 - Understanding Current Cyber Attack Trends and Latest Defensive Countermeasures
While the government getting more involved in the fight against cyber terrorism will certainly serve as a strong deterrent for would-be attackers, it will be crucial for utilities and smart grid operators to gain a deeper knowledge of current cyber attack trends and the most effective methods for guarding against these threats.

Today’s hackers are not only sophisticated, but they are becoming incredibly patient. Instead of trying to hack directly into the smart grid, they may circumvent the technical controls by targeting a specific user within the utility.

For example, to get into a utility’s network, a hacker could potentially go to work for a business that sells products or services to a company, which would allow them to have regular e-mail communications with the company’s procurement office. Once the hacker has established a trusted business relationship with the procurement office, they could send an email with advanced malware or a Trojan horse. This will allow them to create a virtual tunnel from the hacker’s computer directly to the procurement office employee’s computer behind the company firewall. At that point, the hacker can access the company’s network without being detected, and use this system as a launch point for further attacks.

While this may sound like an extreme hypothetical situation, similar attacks have already occurred. The threat of technical attack, however, becomes more concerning when discussing the smart grid. Acoustic neuroma:

Acoustic neuroma or Vestibular Schwannoma is a rare benign tumour in the eighth cranial nerve that leads from the inner ear to the brain. It grows slowly and does not undergo malignant transformation, but may give compression of vital brain stem centres. Tinnitus and hearing problems are usual first symptoms of acoustic neuroma. We published a clear, statistically significant, association between use of mobile and cordless phones and acoustic neuroma. The risk increased with time since first use. For use of both mobile and cordless phones the risk was highest in the longest latency group. Tumour volume increased per 100 hours of cumulative use and year of latency for wireless phones indicating tumour progression from RF-EMF. The whole study can be read here:
