UK construction activity recovers slightly in July

Construction sector activity in the United Kingdom improved somewhat in July, although it remained in contraction territory, according to a report by S&P Global published on Thursday. The construction Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) improved from 38.4 in June to 44.7 in July. The commercial work PMI came in at 46.8, followed by house building at 41.8, while civil engineering activity remained low at 38.3.

China's trade surplus expanded to $112.5 billion in July, exceeding forecasts, but lower than the $125.62 billion recorded in the month prior, the nation's General Administration of Customs said in its report published on Friday.
