US Futures Fall as Iran Tensions Escalate

US stock index futures traded lower on Thursday after President Donald Trump expressed Washington’s dissatisfaction with Iran’s current stance regarding a potential agreement. He warned that if no deal is reached soon, the US military “is going to finish them off.”

Trump also threatened Oman, stating that the United States would “blow” the country “up” if it agreed to cooperate with Iran on controlling passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average futures fell 0.20%, or 104 points, at 4:10 a.m. ET. Meanwhile, Nasdaq 100 futures lost 0.52%, or 158 points, and the S&P 500 futures declined 0.29%.

At the same time, the euro slipped 0.14% against the US dollar, trading at $1.16092 at 4:19 a.m. ET.

Gold prices dropped to a two-month low after renewed tensions between the U.S. and Iran increased fears of higher inflation and possible interest rate hikes. Iran claimed responsibility for attacks on a U.S. airbase in Kuwait following American strikes on Bandar Abbas, while oil prices continued rising due to concerns over the conflict and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz.
