SPHMMC Marks World Patient Safety Day 2025
St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) joined the global community to celebrate World Patient Safety Day 2025 under the theme “Safe care for every newborn and every child” and the slogan “Patient safety from the start.”
The hospital organized several activities to promote safety awareness among healthcare staff. These included presentations on the QI Project (NEST), an introduction to the Patient Safety-Friendly Hospital Framework, and discussions on incident reporting. Pamphlets were distributed, candles were lit to symbolize commitment to safety, and newborn diapers were gifted to babies in the NICU.
H.E. Dr. Mekdes Daba, Minister of Health, highlighted that “Patient safety is at the core of quality healthcare, and it is everyone’s responsibility — from front-line staff to leadership — to ensure safe and compassionate care.”
The event was also attended by H.E. Mrs. Frehiwot Abebe, State Minister of Health; Dr. Muluken Tesfaye, Provost of SPHMMC; Dr. Lemi Belay, Mr. Jemal Shifa, and Dr. Ewnet Gebrehanna.
SPHMMC reaffirmed its commitment to improving patient safety by introducing digital reporting tools, strengthening infection prevention and control, and providing ongoing training for healthcare professionals.
The college remains dedicated to ensuring that every patient receives safe, effective, and high-quality care.

SPHMMC Recognized by Addis Ababa City Administration for Outstanding Public Health Service
St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) has been recognized by the Addis Ababa City Administration for its outstanding contribution to community health through its large-scale free health screening campaign.
Over the past month, SPHMMC provided free health screening services to more than 100,000 city residents, helping promote preventive healthcare and early disease detection across the capital.
The initiative not only improved access to essential health services but also encouraged residents to make regular health screening a part of their daily culture.

SPHMMC expressed its gratitude for this honor, noting that the recognition from the Mayor’s Office inspires the hospital community to continue expanding such initiatives.
