This day commemorates how anesthesiology has evolved as a medical practice and discipline through the years starting from use of ether as inhaler to the artificial intelligence supported anesthesia practice we now have.This all happened with contributions of great Anesthesiologists/ anesthesia practioners and technological advancements and break throughs that has been integrated to the field.
This year's them is "Anesthesia in Health Emergencies " which will amplify our role in emergency and critical situations where our pivotal role is essential especially in airway management, advanced cardiac life support, resuscitation and patient monitoring.
As we are celebrating the world Anesthesia day with this theme it should be with the remainder how we have saved so many lives with our out standing and brave work at emergency and critical services.
So as James Allen once qouted "Circumstances don't make the man but they reveal him".
Let's all of us reveal our inner "anesthesia heroic " and calamnes in emergencies and be an ambassador.

Hellow my name is Dr sisay an anesthesiologist working in assosa,benishangul gumuz region for the past 1 &1/2 year. Over 2000 patients were operated last year and I was involved in the perioperative care of this patients.there were many critical patients operated successfully with zero intraop incident and death. successfully managed neonates with difficult airway like the one below

Emergencies", it should be by recognizing Anaesthesiology for their roles:
Anaesthesiologists are frontline responders in mass casualties, pandemics, natural
disasters, trauma care, and critical care emergencies.
Their expertise extends beyond the operating room—to ICUs, emergency rooms, field
hospitals, and aeromedical evacuations.
Anaesthesiologists are key profession during pandemics and public health emergencies like
COVID-19 pandemic by managing airways, ventilators, and ICU sedation, supporting triage
and critical decision-making, and ensuring infection control and safe intubation protocols
Anaesthesiology plays critical role in health emergency through innovation of portable
anaesthesia equipment, developing protocols for field and remote anaesthesia and
simulation-based emergency training
Beyond direct patient care, anaesthesiologists in emergency situations also have a variety of
administrative and educational roles like trauma team leadership, pre-hospital care, and
emergency preparedness.
Anaesthesiologists work long hours under immense pressure, often behind the scenes. So
today, I would like to recognize their resilience, dedication, and silent heroism in saving

Team Heart Explores Collaboration with SPHMMC
Team Heart, a U.S.-based charitable organization known for advancing cardiac surgery in Africa—especially in Rwanda—visited St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) to explore possible collaboration in cardiac care and training.
The delegation was led by Dr. Martin Zammert, Lead of Cardiac Anesthesia and Critical Care for Team Heart and Chair of Surgical Critical Care at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, Boston, USA.
Dr. Martin met with Dr. Muluken Tesfaye, Provost of SPHMMC; Mr. Jemal Shifa, Vice Provost for Business and Development; and Dr. Berhanu, Head of the Cardiac Surgery Unit.
The discussion focused on partnership opportunities in cardiac surgery, fellowship training, and capacity building to strengthen local expertise. After touring the hospital, Dr. Martin praised SPHMMC’s commitment to expanding cardiac services and training.
He also shared that he would present his findings to the Team Heart Board to consider signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strategic collaboration.
This visit marks a promising step toward improving access to advanced cardiac care in Ethiopia
