ST. ALPHONSUS LIGUORI
Bishop, Confessor, Doctor of the Church.

O God, who didst kindle in blessed Alphonsus Mary, Thy Confessor and Bishop, burning zeal for the salvation of souls, and through him didst enrich Thy Church with a new offspring: grant, we beseech Thee, that imbued with his saving doctrine and strengthened by his example, we may be able happily to come to Thee. Through Our Lord.

ST. LAWRENCE
Martyr

St. Lawrence was a Deacon of St. Sixtus II, Pope and Martyr. When the prefect of Rome arrested him, he distributed the possessions of the Church to the poor to save them from confiscation. He was slowly roasted to death on a gridiron in 258.

Grant unto us, we beseech Thee, O almighty God, to extinguish within us the flames of our vices, even as Thou didst give to blessed Lawrence, to overcome the fires of his torments. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

ST. TIBURTIUS, Martyr

The Roman Deacon Tiburtius, son of the prefect of Rome was beheaded in 286.

Chromatius, prefect of Rome, had condemned several Christians to death.
However, he was converted by St.Tranquillinus and baptized by Polycarp.
Tiburtius, the only son of Chromatius, was also
baptized, through the persuasion of St. Sebastian, his godfather in baptism.
Tiburtius (during the persecution of Diocletian) stayed hidden inside his father's house. But he was accused by a traitor and was brought before the prefect Fabianus and tried. He confessed his faith which he confirmed by a miracle. Protecting himself only by the sign of the cross he walked over red-hot coals barefoot without suffering any injury. The miracle was ascribed to magic and Tiburtius was beheaded at the third
mile-stone of the Via Lavicana. The spot of execution was called, "at the two laurel trees".

SEPTEMBER 8-THE NATIVITY
OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

ANTIPHON at the MAGNIFICAT
THY Nativity, O Virgin Mother of God, was the herald of joy to the whole world: since from there arose the Son of Justice, Christ our God, Who, destroying the curse, bestowed the blessing and, confounding death, brought us the gift of life everlasting.

Bestow upon Thy servants, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the gift of Thy heavenly grace: that as the childbearing of the Blessed Virgin was the beginning of our salvation, so the solemn feast of her Nativity may bring us an increase of peace. Through our Lord..

The Most Holy Name of Mary

The great victory, which John Sobieski, king of Poland, gained against the Turks under the walls of Vienna, caused Pope Innocent XI to make this feast obligatory throughout the whole Western Church as a yearly act of thanksgiving for the deliverance of Christian Europe.

THE SEVEN SORROWS OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
Psalm 139:21 Have I not hated them, O Lord, that hated thee: and pine away because of thy enemies?

1 Peter 2:21

For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.

1 Corinthians 11:1

Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

Exodus 15:3

The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.

Exodus 15:6

Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.

Kumbaya Catholicism is not scriptural or historical. We are called to be like Christ and it is true that Christ sacrificed himself for his followers, for those who would accept the free gift of salvation it is also true that he drove out the money changers with furious violence, it is also true that he is a man of war and that many times he has destroyed the enemies of his beloved or empowered his people to destroy their enemies.

THE STIGMATA OF SAINT FRANCIS

Collect:
Oh Lord Jesus Christ, Who, when the world was growing cold, in order to enkindle in our hearts the fire of Thy love, didst renew the sacred marks of Thy Passion on the body of blessed Francis: mercifully grant, that with the aid of his merits and prayers we may ever bear our cross, and bring forth worthy fruits of pennance:
Who livest and reignest...

Gradual: Ps. 36:30-31
The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom, and his tongue shall speak judgement. The law of his God is in his heart: and his steps shall not be supplanted.
Pray for good priests and the conversion of bad priests
Interesting quote from St. Robert Bellarmine pertaining to the consequences of the Greeks rejecting the Florentine decrees made on the Filioque and separating itself from dogma, falling into heresy.
