The tragic events of Portland last night and the recent flurry of news articles claiming that Philly's homicide rate might outpace even 2021 are a stark reminder that everyone who is able needs to learn how to stop the bleeding from a gunshot wound. The anxiety that some protesters are feeling now is felt *daily* in zip codes in this city.
Whether you are "planning" (remember that choice is a huge privilege) to be in dangerous situations or not, learning to stop bleeding safely is *vital. If you have resources get yourself a tourniquet and more importantly, get one for a friend or neighbor who doesn't have the resources.
Remember, no one is closer to an emergency than the people in the emergency. We protect us and that means everyone.

DIY Winter Sleeping Pads - for distribution to neighbors experiencing homelessness
"This design is an affordable & easy way to assemble winter sleeping pads to distribute to people experiencing homelessness. They sleep warmer than most cheaper Thermarests due to the mylar reflective blanket and foam insulation, and they increase comfort when sleeping on the ground. They won't last forever, but they are lifesaving. Due to the common occurrence of property destruction by police during evictions or sweeps, and high rates of theft, it was important to us that these be easily assembled with no technical skill / affordable for easy reproduction. Cost will vary based on how the material is sourced, but many of these materials can be found for free or very cheap from various sources."

SWARM - A Roving Caravan Strategy for Crushing Snakes and Other Capitalist Parasites
by the Killer Bee Syndicate
"The Earth is not dying, it is being killed, and those who are killing it have names and addresses."
—Utah Phillips
"The mobile caravan tactic takes the analysis of the pipeline fight as an asymmetric, "guerrilla" struggle against an occupying force to its logical next step. Rather than relying solely on stationary camps set up to block a pipeline, the mobile caravan approach relies on disrupting production up and down the pipeline, stretching police and security forces thin and maximizing disruption."

SEIZING THE AIRWAVES - A Free Radio Handbook
edited by Ron Sakolsky & Stephen Dunifer, 1998
"The first book to document and emphasize the myriad voices of the free radio movement, from Black Liberation Radio in Springfield, Illinois, to Free Radio Berkeley in Berkeley, California. The first section, "Media Monopoly And The Rise Of The Free Radio Movement" includes contributions from Robert McChesney on the political economy of radio in North America and a history and analysis of the burgeoning pirate radio movement. The second section, "On The Air," includes interviews with and commentary by some of the key grassroots participants in micropower broadcasting worldwide—from Canada, Holland, Haiti, and Mexico, as well as America. The final section of the book consists of a comprehensive technical guide and how-to manual for going on the air, complete with schematics and "sound" advice."
