לאחר ה-8 בדצמבר, יותר מ-1,000 תקיפות אוויריות פגעו בסוריה, כוונו נגד אתרים אזרחיים וצבאיים.

שטחים סוריים חדשים נכבשו, אזרחים סורים נעצרו על ידי ישראל, ויותר מ-500 חדירות קרקעיות בוצעו.

מאז היום הראשון, המדינה הסורית רצתה להתמודד באופן ריאלי עם ישראל. אמרנו שאנחנו רוצים להתמקד בשיקום. אנחנו רוצים קודם כל התאוששות, ואז פיתוח.

אבל אולי ישראל לא קיבלה בברכה את הגישה הזו, שכן נראה שהיא מחפשת סכסוכים צדדיים באזור. דחינו את הדרך הזו. נשארנו סבלניים ובחרנו במשא ומתן.

בתמיכת ארצות הברית, הצלחנו להביא את ישראל למשא ומתן ישיר.

מטרת המשא ומתן, כפי שאנו רואים אותה, היא נסיגת ישראל מהשטחים שכבשה לאחר ה-8 בדצמבר, מניעת הפרת המרחב האווירי הסורי מישראל, והבטחת שלא יהיו חדירות נוספות לשטח סוריה.

After the 8th of December, more than 1,000 airstrikes hit Syria, targeting civilian and military sites.

New Syrian territories were occupied, Syrian citizens were detained by Israel, and more than 500 land incursions were conducted.

Since day one, the Syrian state has wanted to deal realistically with Israel. We said that we want to focus on reconstruction. We want recovery first, and then development.

But perhaps Israel did not welcome that approach, as it appeared to be looking for side conflicts in the region. We rejected that path. We remained patient and chose negotiations.

With the support of the United States, we managed to bring Israel to direct negotiations.

The goal of these negotiations, as we see it, is Israel’s withdrawal from the territories it occupied after the 8th of December, preventing Israel from violating Syrian airspace, and ensuring that there are no further incursions into Syrian territory.

The Chief of the General Staff, LTG Eyal Zamir, views with severity and strongly condemns the attack on female IDF soldiers who were carrying out a mission earlier today in the city of Bnei Brak.

Any harm to IDF soldiers carried out by Israeli civilians constitutes a severe crossing of a red line, and the attackers must be dealt with firmly.

The Chief of the General Staff expects that the attackers will face the full force of the law.
