אני סיימתי עכשיו ביקור קצר אבל חשוב בוושינגטון, בשיחה עם ידידינו הגדול הנשיא טראמפ. יש בינינו קשר מאוד הדוק, מאוד אמיתי ומאוד גלוי.

כמובן השיחות התמקדו בכמה וכמה נושאים, אבל למעשה במו״מ עם איראן.
הנשיא חושב שהאיראנים כבר למדו עם מי יש להם עסק. אני חושב שהתנאים שהוא יוצר, בשילוב העובדה שהם בוודאי מבינים שהם טעו בפעם הקודמת שהם לא עשו הסכם, שיכול להיות שיווצרו התנאים להשגת הסכם טוב.

הוא רצה לשמוע את דעתי. אני לא אסתיר מכם שאני הבעתי סקפטיות כללית לגבי טיב הסכם כלשהו עם איראן. אבל אמרתי שאם אכן יושג הסכם, אז הוא חייב לכלול את האלמנטים שהם חשובים מאוד מבחינתנו, מבחינת ישראל, ולדעתי לא רק ישראל.

זה לא רק הגרעין, זה גם הטילים הבליסטיים וזה גם השלוחים האיראנים. בזה מוצתה השיחה הייתי אומר, אם כי היא נגעה כמובן גם בעזה וגם באזור כולו וגם דברים כלליים אחרים.

I have just completed a short but important visit to Washington, during which I spoke with our great friend, President Trump. We have a close, genuine, and open relationship. The talks covered several topics but focused mainly on the negotiations with Iran. The President believes that the Iranians already understand who they are dealing with. I think the conditions he sets, combined with their understanding that they erred last time by not reaching an agreement, could lead them to agree to terms that allow for a good deal. I want to say clearly: I do not hide my general skepticism about the possibility of reaching any agreement with Iran. However, I made it clear that if an agreement is reached – it must include the important components for us, the State of Israel, and in my opinion, also for the entire international community: not only the nuclear issue but also ballistic missiles and Iranian proxies in the region. It was an excellent conversation. Of course, we also touched on Gaza, the entire region, and other general issues. In any case, this is another conversation with a great friend of the State of Israel – a president like no other. Thank you very much.

האיש הזה צריך להתבייש בעצמו

נשיא המדינה נמצא בשעה זו בטיסה חזרה לישראל ממסעו באוסטרליה.

למען הסדר הטוב, כפי שהובהר שוב ושוב, בקשתו של ראש הממשלה נמצאת על פי הכללים במשרד המשפטים, לקבלת חוות דעת, ורק לאחר סיום התהליך נשיא המדינה יבחן את הבקשה על פי החוק, טובת המדינה, לפי צו מצפונו וללא כל השפעה מלחצים חיצוניים או פנימיים כאלו או אחרים.

הנשיא הרצוג מוקיר את הנשיא טראמפ על תרומתו המשמעותית למדינת ישראל וביטחונה. ישראל היא מדינת חוק ריבונית. בניגוד לרושם שנוצר מדבריו של הנשיא טראמפ - הנשיא הרצוג טרם קיבל החלטה כלשהי בנושא.
