In a report referring to the transfer of U.S. military assets to the Middle East, wrote that Trump is seeking "decisive" options regarding the Islamic Republic.
According to the report, Pentagon and White House officials are reviewing a range of options more closely, including the overthrow of the Islamic Republic as well as some more limited options such as attacking the IRGC facilities.
According to U.S. officials, Trump has not yet ordered an attack on Iran, and his final decision remains unclear. However, the continuation of these discussions indicates that Trump has not ruled out punishing Tehran for the killing of protesters amid Iran's economic crisis.
According to former U.S. officials and experts, the bigger question for the U.S. government is whether a foreign regime can be overthrown solely through airstrikes or not.
According to the report, the White House must also confront whether it is prepared to carry out a long-term military campaign; a campaign that, if protesters return to the streets and call for support of Trump, could last weeks or months.
