Since the world heart day is on the doors, Smra and AlZaiem AlAzhari University and Al Azhari center for medical researches are organizing the celebration of it, divided into three days :
1- 28/9 Thursday: Awareness of Rheumatic Heart Disease in schools.
2- 30/9 Saturday: Cardiology Event.
3- 1/10 Sunday: March "walking" on the bridge.

⚫The event will be held in AlZaiem AlAzhari University at the national conferences hall.
⚫It will be attended by many cardiologists.
⚫Presenting new interesting topics in the field of cardiology like : robot surgery in cardio thoracic surgery.
⚫presenting new papers and researches has been published internationally.

Hello SMRA members and researchers everywhere :
Today we will represent the most critical topic in research field which is !!

🔴 "The priniciples of authorship and acknowledgement in research "

◽ It is necessary to realize that not everyone who patricipated in such a research consider as an author ! because authorship has credit definition which accepted by many medical journals & that is adopted by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) [1997]. Under this definition, someone is an author if and only if they have done all of the following :


1.Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND


2.Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND


3.Final approval of the version to be published; AND


4.Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved ..

( Simpley author is the person who preside every single step on the research ) ..

And those who do not meet all 4 criteria should be acknowledged.
and mentioned on the research as participants !

So this the different between author & participant ..
between authorship & acknowledgement ..

🔴 Important N.Bs :

◽The provision of funding does not make an individual eligible for authorship.
The same holds for general supervision or proofreading.

🔴 We also have terms like :

◽"The first author" is held to have made the greatest contribution to the research.

◽"The co-author" is the individual who takes primary responsibility for communication with the journal during the manuscript submission, peer review, and publication process, and who typically ensures the proper completion of all the journal's administrative requirements, such as providing authorship details, ethics committee approval, clinical trial registration documentation, and conflict of interest forms and statements, although these duties may be delegated to 1 or more coauthors. The corresponding author should be available throughout the submission and peer review process to respond to editorial queries in a timely manner, and should be available after publication to respond to critiques of the work and cooperate with any requests from the journal for data or additional information should questions about the paper arise after publication ..

Difference between a medical research and clinical audit :

🔵 Research
• Attempts to create generalisable new
knowledge regarding best practice.
• Tests hypotheses that evaluate or compare
interventions.
• Usually large scale over a long time period.
• May involve patients receiving a completely
new treatment.
• May involve patients being given different
treatments.
• Uses random representative sampling
methods to ensure generalisability of findings.
Extensive statistical analysis is usually
required.
• Results need to be generalisable to a wider
population.
No built-in mechanism to act on findings.
Findings can have a wide influence on clinical
practice.
• Always requires ethics committee approval.

🔵 Clinical Audit
• Creates knowledge of current clinical practice
and need for improvement.
• Measures current practice against a standard.
Usually smaller scale over a shorter time
period.
• Never involves patients receiving new
treatments.
Does not affect the normal treatment of
patients.
• Does not necessarily need to use random
Representative sampling methods
Basic statistical analysis usually suffices.
Results are usually only relevant to the area
evaluated.
• Clear responsibility to act on findings through
development of an action plan.
• Findings usually only influence practice within
the area evaluated
Does not usually require ethical approval
