अबुल अब्बास अहमद इब्न मुहम्मद इब्न कादिर अल फरगानी ।
खिलाफते अब्बासिया के दौर के मशहूर खगोल वैज्ञानिक और इंजीनियर हुआ करते थे। उनके सम्मान में नासा ने चाँद पर मौजूद एक क्रेटर का नाम अल्फरगानूस रखा है।
उन्होंने अपने दौर में खगोल विज्ञान पर एक किताब fī Jawāmiʿ ʿIlm al-Nujūmi लिखा था। उनकी लिखी हुई किताब ट्रांसलेट होने के बाद लगभग पांच सौ साल तक यूरोप में पढ़ी और पढाई जाती रही।

मिस्र की नील नदी में पानी के बढ़ने से अक्सर बाढ़ आ जाया करती थी इसलिए पानी के बढ़ने घटने पर नज़र रखने के लिए एक नाइलोमीटर बनाया गया था ।
जिसे अल-फरगानी की निगरानी में अब्बासी खलीफा अल मुतवक्किल के कहने पर बनाया गया था , लगभग हज़ार साल पहले बनाया गया ये नाइलोमीटर आज भी मौजूद है।
