🟢 SCOME Team Green, Mental health awareness

💚It was launched to create awareness about mental health, among medical students.

💚 It was the first project to be launched under SCOME canvas

💚 We chose the color green because it symbolizes new beginnings, growth, and vibrant health, which we believe mental health is all about.

💚 The project managers for this were Elizabeth Araya and Hlina Teklu, our secretary; Eleni Mesfin, and Eden Asfaw as our evaluation and monitoring personnel. Our members were Amanuel Solomon, Kenean Gezahegn, and Liyu Theodros.

💚 we first launched our project by organizing a seminar discussing common mental illnesses in general and stress coping mechanisms, which was headlined by Dr. Fikirte Girma, a psychiatrist. The seminar created a safe space for students to ask anything that they wanted. We thank Dr Fikirte for making this seminar enjoyable for students.

💚 We prepared contents focusing on common mental illnesses which were posted on social media. These contents mainly focused on stress, anxiety, and depression. You can find the videos on you tube using this link

💚 On september, world suicide prevention day was celebrated. Taking this into consideration, our team had prepared and posted a video on suicide awareness. You can find the video by clicking this link

💚 For any help please visit, TASH psychiatry ward, orthopedics building ground floor to the right

💚We had a wonderful time, learned so much, and it has been a wholly enriching experience!

Unraveling the enigma which is mental health

We all chose to join the medical profession even though with limited knowledge of what it would bring to our lives. But we decided to take the risk, ignoring the naysayers and trusting in our abilities to succeed.
Doc 3.0 is a project which focuses on giving high school students facts about medical school. This project aims to provide students with an honest and thorough insight into what medical school entails so they can make an informed decision.
It starts by providing an overview of medical school and its curriculum, highlighting the financial and emotional burdens associated with the profession.
Lastly, Doc 3.0 covers the rewards of a career in medicine, such as job satisfaction, and ability to make a difference in other people's lives.
It was a joyous occasion when we had the chance to speak with the grade 12 higher23 high school students. We shared our experiences and knowledge, answering their questions and giving them support for their future careers.
📌SCOME Orientation Project 🗣

Addressing the lack of structured guidance for medical students.

👉🏾 The Journey of medical school can be very cumbersome... too much to do... too many different ways to do them. The guidance of someone who has traveled those terrains before is very crucial.

👉🏾 Advice from upper class students has always been unstructured and highly dependent on how much people we know... everyone tells you many different things on how to do it best.

👉🏾 Orientation Project made it its goal to create a scaffolding for all the different advice from upper class students and build a common narrative which we then can relay to the young minds.

👉🏾 We gave our first Orientation to the Current C1 batch during their Exit exam Prep period, and we have been growing and improving ever since.

...
...
we have had 5+ events which we went Successfully:

➡️ Exit exam orientation
➡️ Introduction to C1
➡️ How to Tackle PC1
➡️
C1 exam Orientation (click for more info)
➡️ How to Prepare for Qualification exams with specific Departments
➡️ Welcome to Internship: Now What do we do

- This project is has a fluid type of Org structure whereby interested individuals can use this platform to give orientation on specific years.

In addition, we would like to extend a special thank you to all our guests who have generously shared their experiences and insights to help guide the current students. Your willingness to share your knowledge and advice has been instrumental in the success of this project.

We have had an amazing time creating this platform to help students breath through medical school and we hope to do more of it in the future.

See you all on Saturday, Jan 28th 2023 for our SCOME 2022/23's Show down. #Last_Dance!!!
