🇷🇺🇻🇪 On April 18, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Venezuela as part of his tour of Latin American countries.
During the visit, which took place in a traditionally friendly atmosphere, the Russian Foreign Minister had a meeting with President Nicolas Maduro and held detailed talks with Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez and Minister of Foreign Affairs Yvan Gil.
✅ The parties underscored their mutual satisfaction with the dynamic development of political dialogue and practical cooperation within the framework of their strategic partnership.
✅ Implementation of joint trade, economic and investment projects and coordinated steps aimed at building up ties in research, sports, culture and tourism was discussed.
✅ They reaffirmed their shared intention to continue closely coordinating their approaches at multilateral venues, including collaboration within the Group of Friends in Defence of the Charter of the United Nations, in the interests of ensuring the supremacy of international law, creating a more just polycentric international order, and maintaining global stability and security.
☝️ The parties resolutely denounced the use of unilateral restrictive measures as a tool for bringing pressure to bear on sovereign states and as a factor in destabilising the international situation.
The Russian side expressed its invariable support for the Maduro Government’s efforts to stabilise the situation at home.

2️⃣4️⃣0️⃣ years ago, on April 19, 1783, Empress Catherine the Great published a Manifesto on the accession of the Crimean Peninsula to the Russian Empire. This document gave Russia reliable access to the Black Sea and ensured the security of its southern regions for centuries ahead.
📈 After the accession, the Russian authorities banned slave trade, which had existed in the region for centuries, and built new cities, including Sevastopol. The economy and culture received a powerful impetus for development. Domestic trade duties were cancelled, which facilitated the progress of Crimean agriculture, industry and trade and a rapid growth of Crimean cities.
🗝 The Manifesto, which was written by Catherine the Great and General-Field Marshal Grigory Potemkin, was kept in great secrecy in a wooden box upholstered with iron. The Empress had apprehensions about a new war with Turkey and interference by European countries. The Manifesto was published only after the residents of Crimea swore allegiance to Russia by signing oath sheets.
☝️ Grigory Potemkin, who was appointed by Catherine the Great Governor-General of Novorossiya, played a key role in the accession and development of Crimea. His contemporaries noted that he managed to turn the steppes of the Crimean Khanate into a promising and flourishing region of the Russian Empire in a short span of time.

💬 Venezuela is one of Russia’s most reliable partners. Russia and Venezuela are bound by a close strategic partnership based on a conceptual affinity of approaches to the key issues on the global agenda, mutually beneficial projects, tight links of friendship and mutual affinity between our nations.
🤝 We agreed on practical measures to expand our cooperation in trade and investment, and contacts between our business circles in view of the current circumstances. We have multiple projects planned, including in oil production, gas field development, agriculture, healthcare and pharmaceutical production, communications, space and new technologies.
Both Russia and Venezuela are committed to the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, including the sovereign equality of countries and non-interference in their domestic affairs.
☝️ Dependence on the US dollar and the globalisation principles, which the Americans have been trying to incorporate into the international community for years, can do no good. The Americans and their allies can dump all these principles, including free market, fair competition the inviolability of property and the presumption of innocence, in no time if they want to punish somebody for “disobedience.”
Everyone knows that the United States can deceive you any at moment. Washington more often deceives than fulfils its promises and initiatives.

🇷🇺🇺🇳 Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations in New York (April 23, 2023)
💬 The United States violated again its obligations under the UN Headquarters Agreement, having denied issuance of US visas to Russian journalists who were supposed to accompany Minister Lavrov on his official visit to New York to take part in the flagship events of the Russian Presidency of the UN Security Council.
This was done despite the fact that Russian media representatives complied with all relevant terms and requirements, including a valid UN accreditation.
❗️ We consider this step as another manifestation of neglect of the international law by the United States. When denying access to UN events for Russian journalists, the US authorities once again demonstrate their true attitude to freedom of speech and availability of information.
We count on the UN leadership and specialized international mechanisms to pay due attention to this egregious situation and take all necessary steps against the violator.

⚡️ Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s comment on the non-issuance of US visas to Russian journalists to visit the UN headquarters during the Russian Federation's chairmanship at the UN Security Council
💬 Dear friends, of course, I was aware how well our American colleagues are known for such things but I was certain that this time it would be different, considering the focus placed on their ugly behaviour. I was mistaken.
The country that calls itself the strongest, the smartest, the freest and the most just, has chickened out, did an unwise, stupid thing, that I am convinced of, by showing what its asseverations about protecting freedom of speech and access to information are really worth.
We will also have to work for you, show more energy, and put more effort into bringing the truth to the world community and the public.
Please try to keep track of what we are going to do there and spread this truth through your channels. I am convinced that it will draw much more interest all over the world than the “filtered” information that our Western colleagues bring down on the heads of their viewers, listeners, and readers.
⚡️ Most importantly, be sure that we will not forget or forgive.

🇷🇺🇵🇸 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine Riyad al-Maliki
📍 New York, April 25, 2023
💬 We appreciate this opportunity to meet and discuss cooperation on the occasion of the Security Council meeting on the Middle East, including the question of Palestine.
We have presented our position, and I believe the debate will confirm the position of the majority of members of not only the Security Council but also the members of the UN who are in favour of urgently resuming the dialogue based on Security Council and General Assembly resolutions regarding a two-state solution with all the issues of a final status to be subject to negotiation directly by the Palestinians and Israelis.
And, of course, this is a good opportunity to discuss our bilateral relations which we would like to promote. We have some ideas in this regard.

🎙Embassy statement on the transfer of depleted uranium weapons by the United Kingdom to the Kiev regime
▪On April 25 the Minister of State at the UK Ministry of Defence James Heappey confirmed that the Ukrainian side is being supplied with armour-piercing shells with a "core" of depleted uranium.
▪He cynically stated that London is not monitoring the deployment of these weapons and has no obligation to eliminate the consequences of their use following the end of the conflict.
▪James Heappey’s comments are a grim testament to the ruthlessness of the Anglo-Saxons’ policy of an all-out escalation of the "proxy conflict" they themselves unleashed in Ukraine.
▪We call on the British authorities not to indulge in illusory hopes that they will be able to get off scot-free by making the armed forces of Ukraine accountable for the toxic ammunition now at their disposal.
▪London will not succeed in shifting blame to its Kiev clients for their crimes.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the results of his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
📍 New York, April 25, 2023
💬 The meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres lasted over an hour. We considered the current issues on the UN agenda.
Antonio Guterres focused on the prospects for the further implementation of the Black Sea Initiative in the context of his own proposal, which was introduced and approved on July 22, 2022.
As he said himself, this is a package that includes assistance for exporting Ukrainian grain from Ukrainian ports and an identical commitment to the Russian Federation in that it concerns the removal of all obstacles to exporting Russian grain, primarily wheat, and fertilisers, created by the Western countries (primarily the United States, the EU, and the UK).
The Secretary-General described his efforts at promoting the Russian part of the deal as much as possible. So far, the progress has not been obvious. He expressed his considerations in a letter explaining the ideas on the further course of actions. This letter requires a thorough review.
Thus far, we do not see the Western countries’ desire to carry out what is necessary for the successful implementation of the Secretary-General’s initiative on the package approach to exporting agriculture products from Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
We will study his latest ideas now that we have them in black and white.
