🇷🇺🇧🇫 On June 4−5 Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov made a visit to Ouagadougou, the first in the history of bilateral relations, where he was received by President of Burkina Faso Ibrahim Traoré, and held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad Karamoko Traoré.
During their conversations the Ministers discussed in detail a wide range of issues pertaining to further strengthening of Russia-Burkina Faso relations, especially in the context of the Russian Embassy resuming its operations in Ouagadougou in December 2023. At the same time, the Two Sides confirmed their intention to intensify bilateral mutually beneficial and equal interaction in various areas with a focus on expanding cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian spheres, as well as improving the legal framework.
Considering the key issues on the international and regional agenda, the Two Countries confirmed the alignment of their positions on the unacceptability of the policy of diktat of the collective West and the use of neo-colonial approaches in relations with sovereign states.
They paid special attention to reforming the UN Security Council, the situation in and around Ukraine, the situation in the Sahara-Sahel region and the Middle East. The Parties confirmed the proximity of Moscow's and Ouagadougou's approaches to supporting political and diplomatic methods of resolving crisis situations in Africa with the decisive role of the Africans themselves and the assistance of the international community. They agreed to continue strengthening coordination of actions within the United Nations and other multilateral platforms.
🤝 The Parties paid a lot of attention to issues of sustainable promotion of Russian-African multifaceted interaction, given the outcomes of the second Russia-Africa summit in July 2023 and in the context of preparations for the ministerial conference of the #RussiaAfrica Partnership Forum in Sochi scheduled for November.

🇷🇺🇧🇫 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s answers to media questions at a joint news conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso K.J.M. Traoré following talks (Ouagadougou, June 5, 2024)
Key points:
• We have long-standing relations with Burkina Faso. Our relations got a powerful boost from changes in your country and President Ibrahim Traoré assuming office.
• Almost every day we see evidence - and President Traoré shared these assessments today - that after a mighty wave of political decolonisation of the African continent in the 20th century, colonial and neo-colonial practices in the economy are still alive.
• Our relations with African countries have never been of a colonial nature. With President Ibrahim Traoré in office, we are now able to fully unlock the potential of mutually beneficial and equal cooperation across various areas, including the economy, social sphere, health care, education, and military and military-technical cooperation.
• Russian instructors work here [in Burkina Faso]. There will be more of them as we move forward. Concurrently, we provide training for the armed forces and law enforcement personnel of Burkina Faso in the Russian Federation. This type of partnership is very specific and highly advanced. Without a doubt, this cooperation will help wipe out the remaining hotbeds of terrorism in Burkina Faso.
• The Americans have so far been unable to get rid of the syndrome of omnipotence and impunity, and I’m not sure if they ever will. They believe they can make claims all over the world […] They measure international relations by their own yardstick of who is for the United States and who is against it. That is why it does not concern us. Our relations with our African friends rely solely on mutual interest, benefit and full equality.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings on Russian Language Day
💬 This June 6, we celebrate the 225th birthday of Alexander Pushkin, the great Russian poet. The UN Russian Language Day is observed on the same day.
Russian culture and science created their universally acclaimed masterpieces in the language which served as the mother tongue for Alexander Pushkin and Leo Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoevsky and Ivan Turgenev. The role the Russian language plays in terms of enabling people of various ethnic backgrounds to communicate internationally can hardly be underestimated. Today, over 250 million people speak this language around the world.
The fact that various multilateral structures have designated Russian as their official or working language demonstrates just how relevant it is in today’s world. Russian Language Day has been listed in the UN’s International Days and Weeks calendar as part of the programme to promote multilingualism and cultural diversity.
The Russian language’s broad dissemination around the world, as well as our common past and far-reaching economic and people-to-people ties have come together to create a solid foundation for reinforcing integration processes across the European space. <...>
🤝 I am convinced that marking Russian Language Day, which is timed to coincide with the jubilee of our great poet, helps promote international cultural and educational cooperation and maintain an atmosphere of friendship and trust among nations.

During the visit, President of the Republic of Chad Mahamat Idriss Déby received Sergey Lavrov who also held talks with Minister of State - Minister for Foreign Affairs, African Integration, Overseas Citizens of Chad and International Cooperation, Abderaman Koulamallah.
The Officials discussed multiple issues of strengthening the traditionally friendly Russia-Chad ties still further. Moscow and N’Djamena reaffirmed their commitment to deepening trust-based political dialogue and expanding foreign policy coordination on topical issues of the international and regional agendas at the UN and other multilateral platforms.
The Officials reviewed:
• options for expanding trade, economic and investment partnership,
• upgrading the contractual and legal framework,

🇺🇳 The Sides coordinated their positions on issues of overhauling the UN Security Council and reaffirmed their common interest in increasing the share of sovereign African states among UNSC members.
🌍 While discussing efforts to unblock conflicts on the African continent, the Sides emphasised that there was no alternative to using political and diplomatic methods, with regional organisations playing the leading role, and the international community providing its support through the UN.

🇷🇺🇹🇩 FM Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks during talks with Minister of State, Minister for Foreign Affairs, African Integration, Overseas Citizens of Chad and International Cooperation Abderaman Koulamallah (N’Djamena, June 5, 2024)
💬 Symbolically, the Russian Foreign Minister’s first visit to the Republic of Chad takes place during the year, when we mark the 60th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries. Earlier today, we recalled the USSR’s contribution to the decolonisation process, including its assistance to Chad in gaining independence.
• We have appraised positively the progress in our relations. We maintain regular political dialogue.
• We have confirmed our shared interest in expanding Russian-Chadian trade, economic, and investment cooperation. There are numerous initiatives here, which require a focus on both sides.
• We have an interest in developing mineral resources, geological prospecting, and energy, as well as the construction of infrastructure facilities, agriculture, healthcare, and education. At a meeting today, President of the Republic of Chad Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno said he would personally direct the activities of his country’s ministries and agencies, which will be involved in implementing mutually beneficial projects in conjunction with their Russian partners in the above areas and more.
• We have been successfully involved in traditional military and military-technical cooperation for a long time now. We obtained a confirmation of interest in providing the Chadian armed forces with the Russian equipment.
• We have close and in many instances overlapping positions on key regional and global issues. Like our Chadian friends, we believe that democratisation of international life, ensuring the sovereign equality of all states - large or small - as laid out in the UN Charter, and implementing the principles of the Charter in their entirety and interrelation rather than selectively (depending on the case at hand) is imperative and critically important

🇷🇺🇹🇩 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s answers to media questions during a joint news conference following talks with Abderaman Koulamallah, Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chadians Abroad of the Republic of Chad (N'Djamena, June 5, 2024)
Key talking points:
• We have agreed to devote priority attention to the efforts that would give a boost to our trade and economic links and investment cooperation to reach the same high level as our political dialogue as well as links in defence and security, humanitarian affairs and education.
• We are developing cooperation in security. Chad is interested in it, considering that the terrorist threats in the region, associated with the destruction of Libyan statehood in 2011, persist.
• Our common view is that the tasks set last January at the level of Presidents, must be our priorities. Today, we have discussed immediate steps to progress in these tasks.
• I have mentioned the agreements on defence and military-technical cooperation, which the Russian Federation and the Republic of Chad signed long ago. These agreements were not left on paper; they are being implemented. The Chadian armed and security forces receive Russian weapons and military equipment that strengthen your country’s defence capability and enable it to fight terrorism more effectively. This cooperation will go on.
• Our Chadian friends will soon compile a list of projects, in which they would welcome Russian corporate involvement. <...> President of Chad Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno was particularly interested in peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
• I can guarantee that out friendship with Chad will in no way affect our relations with France. France has different approaches. It proceeds from the assumption that either you are with us or against us. <…> We have a different principle. We are friends with those who want to be friends. We never ally with someone against someone else.

🇷🇺🇮🇷🇨🇳 Joint Statement on behalf of the People’s Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation under the agenda item 6 of the session of the IAEA Board of Governors «Verification and monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran in light of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015)»
📃 Our countries have continuously been strong supporters of the JCPOA.
We spared no effort in attempting to restore the JCPOA, participating in nine rounds of negotiations here in Vienna. Our three countries confirmed readiness to conclude the agreement on the restoration of the agreement based on the text of August 2022.
☝️ Unfortunately, other participants of the JCPOA – France, Germany and the UK – as well as the US, despite their promises, chose a different course of action, foregoing our shared goal of resumption of the JCPOA implementation for the sake of their own political considerations.
The People’s Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation are of the view that provisions of the JCPOA continue to be valid – as underpinned by the UNSCR 2231.
<...>
While recalling paragraph 8 of the UNSCR 2231, we emphasize that after the time frames envisaged in the JCPOA and UNSCR 2231, the Iranian nuclear programme will be treated in the same manner as that of any other non-nuclear weapon state party to the NPT.
❗️ Should the full implementation of the JCPOA be in place today, it would have alleviated the overwhelming majority of existing questions regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear programme on a mutually accepted basis.
The People’s Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation are convinced that it is time for Western countries to demonstrate political will, restrain themselves from the endless wheel of escalation that they have been spinning for the past almost two years and take the necessary step towards the revival of the JCPOA.

As UK remembers D-Day, we pay tribute to all Allied servicemen and women as well as Merchant Navy sailors who fought Nazism along with their Soviet brothers- and sisters-in-arms who broke the back of Hitler's forces on the Eastern Front. We send out best wishes to the British Veterans of World War II.
As President Vladimir Putin said on 9 May 2024, Russia has never belittled the significance of the Second Front or that of Allied assistance. We will never forget our joint struggle.
Today Russia remains faithful to the cause of rooting out Nazism and neo-Nazism. The eradication of this criminal ideology is a key objective of the Special Military Operation in Ukraine.

🇷🇺🇧🇴 Russia's President Vladimir Putin held talks with President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia Luis Alberto Arce Catacora, who came to Russia on an official visit, in the Constantine Palace.
💬 Vladimir Putin: It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the International Economic Forum in St Petersburg, Russia. This is your first visit to Russia as the head of state, and we are delighted to have you here.
I have no doubt that you will make a substantial contribution to the work of our forum, considering that you have a degree in economics and previously held the posts of minister of the economy and minister of finance. I hope you will find the discussions that are being held at the forum today and those that are scheduled for tomorrow interesting.
Turning to the bilateral relations between Russia and Bolivia, they are built on a solid foundation of respect for each other’s interests. Although our mutual trade is relatively small in monetary terms, there has been positive growth: last year, it increased by over 2 percent, or 2.5 percent, if I am not mistaken.
🤝 There are several interesting spheres of cooperation, including high technology. Rosatom is implementing a good programme and is building a nuclear research and technology centre in El Alto. One of the completed projects is a radiopharmacology complex, the largest in Latin America, which is already supplying medicines to Bolivian clinics.

💬 Vladimir Putin: Last year we met on the sidelines of the #RussiaAfrica Summit. I am glad to have a chance to continue our dialogue. I must note that over this year the bank has managed to do a lot under your leadership. It has shown a significant net profit for the first time; in fact, it is becoming sustainable and operating more smoothly and successfully.
I hope today we will have a chance to talk about the bank’s further development and our cooperation with the bank, as well as discuss what can be done together, including on such large platforms as the St Petersburg International Economic Forum. Moreover, the topic is very acute: Developing multipolarity and strengthening its economic base.
Of course, your opinion as the bank’s chair and as former president of Brazil, political figure, and head of a big financial institution, would be very important in all the discussions held on the site of the International Economic Forum.
🇷🇺🇧🇷 Please give my best regards to the current President of Brazil, Mr Lula da Silva. We agreed to have a telephone conversation in a few days, to discuss bilateral ties. We also look forward to seeing him at the #BRICS summit in Kazan this autumn.
