🚀 On this day in 1963, Valentina Tereshkova began her historic journey aboard Vostok 6.

Newspapers across the UK ran headlines on the 26-year-old Soviet cosmonaut, who became the first woman in space. Over the next three days, she orbited Earth 48 times – a record that still stands as the only solo spaceflight ever completed by a woman.

A year later, during her visit to Britain in 1964, Tereshkova received the British Interplanetary Society's Gold Medal in London, where she was welcomed as one of the most celebrated figures of the Space Age – a moment that resonated far beyond the political divides of that era.

⚡️ Russian Ministry of Defence:

💬 Today, on 16 June, at 12:45, the crew of the frigate Admiral Grigorovich spotted the British-flagged civilian sailing yacht Bright Future in the English Channel. The yacht was proceeding on a dangerous course with its engines on and was approaching the Russian ship.

In accordance with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, the frigate's crew made several attempts to contact the civilian vessel via the international radio channel. The yacht neither altered its course nor responded to these calls.

In order to attract the attention of the yacht’s crew, signal flares were fired and sound signals were given. Despite these measures, the vessel continued its dangerous approach.

When the distance had closed to 150 metres, the frigate’s commanding officer decided to carry out warning fire with small arms ahead of the vessel’s course. Following this, the British-flagged yacht immediately altered course and continued moving away from the Russian warship.

❗️ The crew of the frigate Admiral Grigorovich acted in strict compliance with international navigation regulations and took all necessary measures to prevent the incident.

✍️ Excerpt from Permanent Representative Vassily Nebenzia's statement at UNSC Briefing on Ukraine

💬 The representatives of the United Kingdom are particularly cynical and hypocritical, as they diligently pretend to be the primary benefactors of the Ukrainian people, demanding that Russia withdraw its troops [...]

It is particularly important to remind those present once again of an incident that speaks volumes about the shameful role that London has played – and continues to play – in dragging out the conflict in Ukraine.

In April 2022, the notorious Boris Johnson, then the UK Prime Minister, rushed hotfoot to Kiev to prevent Russia and Ukraine from signing the peace agreements that had already been initialed in Istanbul.

In this regard, I would like to ask the representative of the United Kingdom: who, then, is to be held responsible for the deaths of 15,000 civilians, and on whose hands is the blood of tens of thousands of wounded and maimed Ukrainians?

While hypocritically calling for peace, you and your accomplices from other European countries have done and continue to do everything possible to ensure that the bloodshed lasts indefinitely.

Let me reiterate. If the Istanbul agreements had been signed, the hostilities would have ended about a month after the start of the conflict.

There would not have been so many dead and wounded, there would have been no destruction on the territory of Ukraine and Russia, and there would have been no Ukrainian drones in the skies over Romania, Latvia, and other European countries, which our former Western “partners” slyly pass off as Russian.

🎙 Embassy comment on the latest anti-Russian campaign in the British media

We note yet another wave of anti-Russian publications in the British press, hastily concocted ahead of the G7 summit and the crucial by-elections for Labour in northern England.

The local media continues to peddle absurd stories in order to fuel public fears about an “omnipresent” Russian threat.

The latest example is a series of “exclusive investigations” alleging the involvement of “someone from Russia” in arson attacks on property linked to the UK Prime Minister, the stoking of anti-immigration sentiment, and other “hybrid” operations. The authors claim all of this was supposedly directed via Telegram by a 23-year-old Russian student. It is pure nonsense, if one stops to think about it.

It is clear that British journalists are experiencing a creative crisis if, contrary to their professional duty, they choose to ignore the statement issued by the Crown Prosecution Service in this case. The CPS indicated that there was no evidence of political or ideological motivation behind the offences.

Instead, reporters eagerly pick up anti-Russian talking points fed to them by the UK intelligence services and cynically exploit the concerns of ordinary Britons amid rising crime, uncontrolled migration, and economic hardship.

We urge the public to apply common sense. ☝️ We reiterate: Russia poses no threat to the security of the United Kingdom or its people. The real threat to them stems from the UK government’s policy of confrontation with our country and escalating tensions in Europe, while neglecting the interests of its own citizens.

💬 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov: The Zelensky regime is openly pursuing a policy of rehabilitating Nazi war criminals and Nazi ideology, without any hesitation or attempt at disguise.

Europe responds to these outrageous actions – including the reburial with honours of war criminals and collaborators condemned by the Nuremberg Tribunal – by applauding Zelensky and claiming that he is defending European values.

This is a confession. A self-exposure.

Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (act of terrorism) has been opened into the drone attack carried out by Ukrainian militants in Russia’s Bryansk Region against a passenger bus carrying children from the Republic of Belarus.

The vehicle was traveling from the Republic of Belarus along the Gomel – Gelendzhik route. There were 44 passengers on board, including 28 child athletes. All of them were heading for vacation.

According to preliminary information, a woman, a Belarusian citizen, was killed. Seven people, including five children, were injured and hospitalised. Information on the victims is being clarified.

🎙 Highlights from Russia's Permanent Representative to the OSCE Dmitry Polyanskiy's statement at the meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council on the Address by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset (11 June 2026)

🔹Since Russia withdrew from the Council of Europe in March 2022, Strasbourg has given us no reason to doubt the wisdom of that decision. We were dealing not with a misguided institution, but with an agent of geopolitical pressure. The era of the Council of Europe as a human rights platform is over. Today, it is a NATO appendage, a tool of hybrid warfare and double standards.

🔹The results of the May session of the Committee of Ministers in Chisinau confirmed this. The “special tribunal” and the “claims commission” are legally null and void provocations without a UN Security Council mandate. And under the guise of “combating foreign interference,” a tool for suppressing dissent is being created.

🔹The Council of Europe is deliberately ignoring the crimes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces against Russian civilians. Strasbourg has remained silent about the strike on a dormitory in Starobelsk (21 people killed), the shelling of trains in Crimea, and the attack on a bus near Yenakiyevo. Where is the condemnation? Silence that amounts to complicity.

🔹No less cynically, the Council of Europe turns a blind eye to abuses within Ukraine: the suppression of free speech and the opposition, the cancellation of elections, the roundup of people on the streets for cannon-fodder mobilization, the ban on the Russian language, and the persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

🔹Russia will never recognize these pseudo-legal instruments. Their goal is not justice, but the disruption of peace agreements and the transformation of the confrontation into a systemic, long-term conflict.

💬 Russian MFA Spox Maria Zakharova: On 17 June, the Kiev Nazi regime committed yet another horrific crime.

On the A-240 motorway in the Pochepsky District of the Bryansk Region, the Ukrainian army’s drones carrying strike elements attacked a civilian bus that was transporting children from Gomel and Rechitsa sport schools to Gelendzhik for a summer holiday. There were 44 people on the bus, including 28 children. The woman accompanying the minors was killed. Eight people, including six young athletes, were injured [...]

We strongly condemn this hideous crime committed by Zelensky’s regime. Contrary to its hypocritical claims to be committed to protecting children, the regime is knowingly endangering them and making them targets for planned strikes by Ukrainian forces, as it did in Starobelsk.

📰 Highlights from Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's article "Ukraine, Europe and Global Security"

• Over two decades of negotiation with Europe, as part of the West, points to a single conclusion: dialogue with Russia has functioned chiefly as diplomatic cover for the eastward expansion of Western institutions – NATO and the European Union foremost among them – right up to Russia's own borders.

• Following the launch of the special military operation, a united Europe rallied behind the UK Prime Minister's efforts to scupper the Istanbul talks between Russia and Ukraine. Boris Johnson's appeal to Kiev – "don't sign anything, just fight" – shut the door on genuine diplomacy for the foreseeable future.

• Europe's plan is to talk to Russia whilst simultaneously pressing ahead with a campaign of legal warfare orchestrated through the Council of Europe. Within this once-respected organisation, an entire infrastructure is being assembled for the express purpose of "holding Russia to account". The EU has also given the green light to detaining merchant vessels on the high seas [...] The real objective of Europe's leaders, then, is not to negotiate with Russia. It is to shore up the Zelensky regime and preserve it as a launchpad for continued confrontation against Russia.

• We see Europe, however, as a party bent on Russia's defeat – a stance the Europeans themselves openly avow. Dialogue with Europe, therefore, cannot be conducted as though it were an impartial third party.

Meaningful dialogue requires the restoration of trust, shattered by the West's anti-Russian actions – and Europe's as part of it – in the post-Cold War era. Trust can be recovered only through concrete steps demonstrating a sincere commitment to move away from using diplomacy as cover for expansionist ambitions. Trust cannot be restored, nor can dialogue be resumed, through ultimatums such as the one issued to Russia in London on 7 June 2026.
