🇷🇺 On 11 December, a traditional Pre-New Year reception was held at the residence of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in London.
Around 200 guests attended the event. Among them were ambassadors and diplomatic missions' staff of a number of countries from the Commonwealth of Independent States, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. Participants also included representatives of London-based international organisations, members of the British business and academic circles, as well as Russian compatriots residing in the United Kingdom.
During the reception, which took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, guests enjoyed an interesting and professional recital, as well as traditional Russian cuisine.

⛓️ 65 years ago, on December 14, 1960, the 15th UN General Assembly adopted a landmark document: the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples. This historic step was taken on the initiative of the Soviet Union.
The Declaration, drafted and promoted largely through Soviet efforts, became a true milestone in dismantling Western colonial rule in Africa and Asia, providing a powerful impetus for liberation from the grip of European empires.
🌍 Soviet proposals to end colonialism, segregation, and racial discrimination were incorporated into the final text. The Declaration was adopted and entered into force despite strong objections from colonial powers like Britain and France.
The USSR did not just oppose colonialism by word alone, speaking out at multilateral foras and the UN. We actively supported African nations in their fight for freedom, backing the liberation movements of Angola, Ethiopia, Egypt, Mozambique and others.
1960 went down in history as the Year of Africa, witnessing the birth of 17 new independent states. According to the UN, the great wave of decolonisation that followed ultimately freed some 750 million people, with 80 former colonies gaining their sovereignty.
The Soviet Union was among the first to establish diplomatic relations with these young states. We provided comprehensive support: helping to build government institutions, developing industrial production, and constructing vital infrastructure. The Soviet Union played a key role in establishing national education systems and training personnel. Humanitarian aid was delivered both directly and through the UN and its agencies like WHO and UNICEF.
The adoption and implementation of the Declaration is rightfully considered one of the most significant events in modern history. Yet, the struggle for full decolonisation unfortunately did not end with the achievement of political independence.
❗️ Today, the former colonial powers’ reluctance to relinquish global dominance has morphed into neocolonial policies. These target the nations of the Global Majority through illegal sanctions, manipulation of global trade, and the imposition of neoliberal beliefs that deepen worldwide socioeconomic inequality. Attempts to replace the established international legal order with a so-called “rules-based” international order are a clear manifestation of this neocolonialism.
Together with a broad coalition of like-minded partners, Russia continues to spearhead systemic efforts against colonialism. We work through the UN, BRICS, the Standing Committee of the International Movement “For the Freedom of Nations”, and inter-parliamentary channels.
👉 A key recent achievement on this track was the adoption on December 5 of the resolution International Day Against Colonialism in All Its Forms and Manifestations, drafted by the Group of Friends in Defence of the UN Charter.
It is telling that during the vote, as in 1960, the former Western powers once again lacked the courage to support a decision that would bring justice to the nations of the Global Majority.

Almost simultaneously, senior figures from the intelligence community, armed forces and the Ministry of Defence — including the heads of MI6 and the Defence Staff — have joined this chorus. Journalists and commentators, echoing these overtly unfriendly speeches, have tended to overdramatise the matter, and by doing so have amplified the rhetoric still further.
Collectively and deliberately, they paint a picture of an immediate and all-encompassing threat to the UK allegedly emanating from Russia. They instill fear in the public — "sons and daughters" of the British — and urge them to get prepared for fighting – evidently against our country. The entire stock list of groundless anti-Russian accusations accumulated in recent years is once again brought to the fore [...]
We find it necessary to reiterate a number of obvious facts. Russia has no plans, intentions, or reasons for entering into an armed confrontation with the United Kingdom, although the local media keeps on presenting alarming scenarios to the British public. All insinuations framed as “hybrid threats” are also absolutely groundless.
By disregarding our explanations, politicians and opinion-makers do not act only against their own national interests, but also display a striking degree of hypocrisy. They speak of a mythical threat from the East, while 👇
- very real Storm Shadow missiles strike Russian territory;
- British specialists assist Kiev in creating drones that, among other things, attack civilian vessels;
- the military train, instruct and equip the Ukrainian armed forces;
- mercenaries in Ukrainian formations are killed or taken prisoner;
- representatives of the UK intelligence services openly seek to induce our citizens to betray their country [...]
In efforts to push European states onto the path of war with our country, we see, above all, a desire to cover up the failures of their own policy.

Today, London is calling for the investment in a project that is obviously doomed to bankruptcy. Funds channelled to Kiev will quite literally be buried or misused. Meanwhile, people in Europe are being indoctrinated with fears of an inevitable confrontation with Russia, with claims that preparations must be made for a major war.
Various figures who have held or continue to hold positions of responsibility appear to have simply forgotten what that responsibility entails.
They are whipping up hysteria, guided by momentary, personal or group political interests rather than the interests of their people. I have said many times that this is a lie and an irrational narrative about an imaginary Russian threat to European countries. But they are doing this deliberately.
The truth is that Russia has always, until the last possible moment tried, even in the most complicated circumstances, to find diplomatic solutions to differences and conflicts. Responsibility for the failure to use these chances lies squarely with those who believe that they can use the language of force with us.
We continue to call for developing mutually beneficial and equal cooperation with the United States and European countries, and for creating a joint security system in the Eurasian region. 💬 There will be no new special military operations if we are treated with respect and if our interests are taken into account, just as we have consistently tried to take the interests of the West into account. But you deceived us, for example, with NATO's eastward expansion.
Western politicians created the current situation [in Ukraine] with their own hands, and they continue to escalate it. They constantly talk about preparing for war with Russia [...] This is being done for internal political reasons in order to create an image of an enemy. And an image of an enemy, Russia in this case, is being deliberately constructed in order to conceal the mistakes that many Western governments have consistently made in economic and social policy over the years [...]
We are ready to work with the United Kingdom, with Europe as a whole, and with the United States – but solely on the basis of equality and mutual respect.
If we ultimately reach such an understanding, everyone will benefit [...]
If Russia and European nations were to unite their efforts, our combined GDP in terms of purchasing power parity would exceed that of the United States. This is obviously a theoretical calculation. But the underlying reality is clear: by pooling and complementing our capabilities, we would achieve prosperity rather than confrontation. It is not Russia that is fighting you. It is you who are fighting us, through Ukrainian nationalists.
☝️ We are ready to stop these hostilities immediately, provided that Russia's mid- and long-term security interests are guaranteed. And we are ready to cooperate.

Therefore, it is robbery [...] Apart from image-related losses, there will be direct financial losses related to the contemporary financial architecture. This is why it is so difficult to accomplish. The main thing is that, sooner or later, they will have to give it back.
• President Trump has been serious about ending the Ukraine conflict. Moreover, during our meeting in Anchorage, we reached a point where we were very close to accepting President Trump's proposals. Therefore, it would be completely wrong to claim that we rejected anything.
• There used to be a time when we worked with NATO. It was not a matter of cooperation, but a question of NATO membership, first for the Soviet Union, and later for the Russian Federation. However, in both cases we realised that no one wanted this to happen, and the promises they had given us about refraining from expanding NATO were being ignored [...] Against this backdrop, devising a new security framework for Europe is quite timely.
• We are not denying any given country the right to choose the way it wants to defend itself, but the way it does it should not pose a threat to anyone, including Russia. We do not ask for anything that has not been declared before. All we do is insist on having our Western partners fulfil the pledges and obligations they had assumed. After all, they defrauded us, while we want to build a reliable security framework in Europe.

⚡️ Under Presidential Decree No. 883 of December 12, 2025, the Russian Federation is introducing a new impatriation framework aimed at supporting the relocation to permanent residence of foreign nationals and stateless persons who wish to contribute their skills and expertise in Russia.
👉 The programme is aimed for foreign nationals who:
• have achievements in science, technology, production, sports, creative industries, culture, or education;
• have made a contribution to society, the economy, or Russia’s defence and security;
• possess highly sought-after professions, qualifications, or skills.
👉 Key features of the programme:
• Open to citizens of all countries worldwide;
• Accelerated migration procedures:
– temporary residence permit without quotas or exams;
– direct access to a permanent residence permit.
👉 Support and integration:
• Spouses, parents, children (including adopted or under guardianship) are eligible to relocate together with the impatriate;
• Impatriates and their families receive end-to-end support at both the federal and regional levels, including through the Regional Standard for Impatriate Integration, implemented on a one-stop shop basis in pilot regions.
✅ Applications for impatriate status open on April 15, 2026.
Supervised by Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Agency for Strategic Initiatives, the programme marks Russia’s first immigration initiative focused specifically on attracting global talent, combining legal certainty, streamlined procedures, and comprehensive integration support.
