🌟 September 2 marks 80 years since the signing of the Instrument of Surrender of Japan in 1945, which put #WWII — the bloodiest conflict in the history of mankind — to an end.

The defeat of militarist Japan and the signing of the Instrument of its surrender concluded the largest and the most brutal war in human history, unleashed by the fascist and the Nazis together with Japanese militarists.

With Japan's surrender, the Axis powers' last stronghold in the Asia-Pacific Region, a Hitler’s ally in the Far East, which had enslaved numerous peoples and occupied vast territories and in Asia (the Korean Peninsula, Indochina, Indonesia, the Malay Peninsula, and parts of China, Burma and the Philippine islands, in particular), was eliminated.

❗️ It was the Soviet Union that made a decisive contribution to defeating Japanese militarism.

Acting in accordance with the commitments to the anti-Hitler coalition allies, taken at the Yalta Conference, the USSR successfully carried out the Manchurian Strategic Offensive Operation in August 1945, having crushed the Kwantung Army — Japan’s main military force in the Far East — and expelled Japanese invaders from Northeast China and Korea.

After Hitler Germany and its satellites surrendered in Europe, Japan was the only Axis power that remained at war with the anti-Hitler coalition allies and had a substantial military capability for waging a war, including offensive operations.

Moreover, Japan not only posed a threat to the Soviet Union’s security, but also endangered the emerging post-war world order, which was being framed after the defeat of Nazi Germany.

👉 Japan dismissed the demand by China, the US and Britain presented on July 26, 1945 (paragraph 13 of the Potsdam Declaration) to proclaim the unconditional surrender of all its armed forces. Therefore, the Allied powers officially called on the Soviet Government to enter the war against the Japanese militarists in the Far East.

On August 9, 1945, the Red Army launched the offensive in Manchuria. The advance of the Soviet forces, supported by aviation and the Navy, was rapid, with strikes delivered on land, sea and in the air. The operation was being carried out along the frontline of more than 5'000 kilometres.

As the result of a rapid advance and coordinated actions by the Red Army units, air and naval forces, the Soviet soldiers liberated Harbin, Northeast China and Korea, gained back South Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, having defeated the million-strong Kwantung Army just within a month.

By September 1, 1945, the Soviet forces accomplished the operation in Manchuria. During just the 23 days of the operation, the Red Army defeated the Japanese and eliminated Japan’s military and economic stronghold in Asia.

📑 On September 2, 1945, the official signing ceremony of the Instrument of Surrender of Japan was held on board the USS 'Missouri' in Tokyo Bay. Lieutenant-General Kuzma Derevyanko, a representative of the Main Command of the Soviet Forces in the Far East, signed the Instrument on behalf of the Soviet Union.

In accordance with the Document, Japan proclaimed “the unconditional surrender to the Allied Powers of the Japanese Imperial General Headquarters and of all Japanese armed forces and all troops under Japanese control wherever situated.”

Japan accepted all the conditions set forth in the 1945 Potsdam Declaration. All the Japanese troops were ordered to surrender unconditionally.

🎖 On September 2, 1945, a decree was issued in the Soviet Union declaring September 3, 1945, a Day of Victory over Japan. Today Russia marks September 3 as a Day of Military Glory commemorating Victory over militarist Japan and the end of WWII.

On 3 September, London announced yet another set of unlawful restrictive measures. This time they target the organisations Movement of the First, Volunteers of Victory and the Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation, as well as several individuals.

The justification offered is based on untrue information. In particular, it cites unfounded claims regarding the alleged forcible transfer of 19,500 children from Ukraine to Russia.

It is worth recalling that during Russia-Ukraine negotiations in Istanbul on 2 June Kiev submitted a list of 339 Ukrainian children who had found themselves in a difficult situation as a result of the armed conflict in Ukraine.

30% of the data on this list were not confirmed. A significant number of these children had either never been to Russia, had already reached adulthood or had returned to their families.

The health and wellbeing of children is our top priority. Any talk of "abductions" is entirely misplaced. The children's lives were saved thanks to the swift evacuation from the combat zone. They are all safe. The Children's Rights Commissioners are working to reunite them with their relatives.

❗️ We call upon the UK authorities to refrain from making baseless accusations in future and to avoid hindering the efforts aimed at protecting the rights and interests of minors.

Equally cynical is London's decision to time the introduction of sanctions against those engaged in preserving the memory of our shared Victory in the Second World War to 3 September – the anniversary of its conclusion.
