🗓 On 8 October, a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council took place in the Grand Kremlin Palace.

The CIS Summit opened with a restricted-format meeting. It was attended by the Presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, Prime Minister of Armenia and CIS Secretary General. The talks continued in the extended format with the CIS member states’ delegations.

Following the CIS Summit, a package of documents was signed, including an appeal of the CIS Heads of State to the CIS peoples and the international community on the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. A number of documents were also signed on the sidelines of the Summit.

Cooperation within the CIS is one of the Russian Federation's top foreign policy priorities. The member states of the Commonwealth are our closest neighbours, friends, and strategic partners, and we are naturally committed to strengthening our cooperation across the board. <...>

Through our collaborative efforts, we have built a robust financial infrastructure that is immune to external influences. The use of national currencies in mutual payments has expanded.

In addition, import substitution processes are moving fast thus strengthening our country’s technological sovereignty which is critically important considering the challenging global economic and political environment and the unprecedented pressure, particularly in the economy, coming from a number of countries.

🤦 Having been snubbed by the US over his "pseudo-victory" wish-list Zelensky has turned up in London to claim a consolatory batch of UK handouts and political soundbites.

As before, the British taxpayer will foot the bill for the carnage the corrupt Kiev regime continues to inflict on its own country and people.

🎙 Excerpt from Russian MFA Spox Maria Zakharova's weekly briefing on topical foreign policy issues (9 October 2024)

British investigation into the Skripal case

💬 The British justice has once again showed its true colours. The decision of the secretariat of the public inquiry into the death of British citizen Dawn Sturgess in Amesbury in 2018 regarding the participation of Sergey Skripal and Yulia Skripal in the hearings scheduled for October 2024 has been made public.

The inquiry chair, Anthony Hughes, decided not to invite the Russians to the hearings, either in person or online. Instead, the protocols of the Skripals’ talks with the British police in 2018, as well as their written answers to questions within the framework of the current public inquiry by Ms Sturgess’ family, will be used to restore the picture of what happened.

Lord Hughes justifies his decision saying that the Russians’ attendance in the courtroom or via a conference call would allegedly entail a threat to their physical safety. He says there are reasons to believe that an attack, similar to what happened in Salisbury, may be carried out again, by persons with the same motives as the attackers in 2018 or sharing their alleged goals. <...>

The Russophobic statement made by the representative of the British investigative bodies shows that the upcoming hearings will be extremely biased, politicised, and non-transparent, with the outcome of the case already known. There is simply no hope for justice to prevail under these conditions. It is nonsensical.

❗️ London clearly works hard to prevent the Skripals’ public appearance, using even made-up pretexts. The British side hiding the Russians goes against our country’s lawful right to receive information about its citizens.

We will continue to demand that the British provide comprehensive and unbiased information about their provocation in Salisbury in 2018 and the fate of our compatriots, as well as consular access to them in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963 and the Bilateral Consular Convention of 1965.

Embassy comment on the launch of the Office of Trade Sanctions Implementation within the UK Department for Business and Trade

🛑 Within London's sprawling web of illegitimate restrictions against Russia, a new supervisory body has emerged to enforce their implementation.

The OTSI will be tasked with monitoring compliance and imposing fines on British companies for any attempts to establish profitable trade links in which UK watchdogs may detect an allegedly unlawful "Russian factor".

In other words, British entrepreneurs are now set to be funding, with their taxes, even greater scrutiny of their own activities by Whitehall officials, who remain unwilling to accept reality.

Russia's economy, no longer dependent on trade with Britain, will continue to grow, and our ties with other independent global players are expanding to mutual benefit. After a decade of Western sanctions against Russia, unprecedented in scope and scale, one might have caught on to this.

For British businesses, however, the increased costs of reporting to London's controllers and concerns regarding sanctions "overcompliance" are likely to become an additional burden. This may adversely affect the UK's efforts to tap into fast-growing markets in predominantly non-Western countries, which are also Russia’s traditional partners.

☝️ The price for this sanctions "straitjacket " for Britain, a nation historically focused on foreign trade, will likely be the rising costs of goods and services, inevitably leading to a further decline in living standards.

The bitter irony for the British population is that the Labour government, which had promised change, has acted in full conformity with the confrontational anti-Russian legacy of the Conservatives when establishing the Office, even though it has shied away from acknowledging this.

💬 President Vladimir Putin: International relations have entered an era of profound transformation, and a new world order is emerging that reflects the world's diversity. This process is inevitable and irreversible.

Emerging powerful centres of economic growth, financial, and political influence are increasingly evident, particularly within the Global East and the Global South at large.

These newly established centres are committed to preserving and strengthening their sovereignty and socio-cultural identity, while pursuing harmonious development in accordance with their traditions and based on national interests.

Most of the nations advocate for a more equitable distribution of wealth and the consistent democratisation of the international landscape.

We firmly believe that universal peace and comprehensive development can only be achieved if every nation's views are taken into account and every state's right to have its own sovereign policy, worldview, traditions, and religious beliefs is respected.

🤝 Russia endorses the broadest possible international dialogue concerning the parameters of interaction in our emerging multipolar world. It is open to discussing the establishment of a new world order with all our friends, partners, and like-minded people, including within the frameworks of the CIS, EAEU, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and BRICS.

🗓 As Black History Month begins in the UK, we remember that Russia's connection with people of African origin and descent is altogether different from that of many Old World countries. Russia never participated in African colonisation and slave trade. Openly…
☝️ Unlike some Russia does not need to search far for inspiring Black History Month stories.

One such story is that of Ivan Gannibal (1735-1801), a talented and successful Imperial Russian military commander who won or decisively contributed to a number of naval victories in the Mediterranean.

Among his major achievements was the key role in founding the city of Kherson. He led the establishment and rapid construction of the new city’s fortress and port, making Kherson thrive and prosper. He also oversaw an expedition to survey the Crimean coast which was instrumental in founding Sevastopol.

🥈 For his bravery and leadership Ivan Gannibal was awarded the Order of St George, Russia’s highest military award at the time, by Catherine the Great. A respected and decorated hero, he attained the second most senior rank of general-in-chief.

Yet, probably even more telling, he was repeatedly mentioned with admiration in works by his great-nephew, Russia’s famous poet Alexander Pushkin.

🎖October 14 marks 81 years since the Sobibor uprising — a special date in the history of World War II.

📅 It was #OnThisDay in 1943, that the only successful mass escape from the Nazi death camps took place — the Sobibor uprising, led by a Soviet prisoner of war, the Red Army lieutenant Alexander Pechersky.

▪️During the war, Nazi Germany established about 14,000 concentration camps, with the so-called death camps among them, used by the Nazis to exterminate people. Sobibor was one those death camps formed in German-occupied Poland with one aim — to ensure the “final solution to the Jewish question.”

Sobibor had been in operation since May 1942. It was located near the village of Sobibor in the south east of Poland near the Western Bug River and the Polish-Soviet border. The camp was set up by the Nazis on a railroad haul between towns Chelm and Wlodawa, which made it possible to ship prisoners to Sobibor by train cars.

Sobibor was literally a death factory designed to slaughter people in the most brutal and terrifying ways. Each and every day, up to six trains each carrying 2,000 people — both military and civilians, including senior people, women, and children — delivered prisoners to that camp.

▪️Captives in Sobibor were shot, gassed, starved or exploited to the death. People were subjected to heinous medical experiments. Prisoners were brought to Sobibor for further torture and slaughter from Austria, Czechoslovakia, France. It is known that the two so-called "children trains" left the Netherlands for Sobibor in June 1943. During the time the camp was in operation, the Nazis massacred there up to 250,000 POWs.

Sobibor was well-guarded by the Nazis. The camp was fenced off by four rows of three-metre-high barbed wire. The territory around was mined. There were sentinels on towers along the perimeter. Sobibor was also cordoned off by 200 guards, with about a hundred SS soldiers among them. Ukrainian collaborators, including those serving in 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Galician), were in charge of maintaining the “order” in Sobibor.

Given all that, escaping from Sobibor seemed unthinkable.

⚔️ On October 14, 1943, the uprising in Sobibor under the leadership of Alexander Pechersky took place. Encouraged by the Soviet officer, the prisoners performed a truly heroic feat — in an unequal battle with the Nazis, POWs killed 11 or, according to other sources, 12 SS soldiers and several guards. Having overpowered the enemy literally with bare hands, the prisoners rushed undaunted to the central gate of Sobibor under heavy machine-gun fire from the towers. Nothing could stop the doomed prisoners, neither the minefields surrounding the camp, nor the barbed wire, nor the gun fire.

As a result of the uprising in Sobibor, about 300 prisoners managed to escape from this hell on Earth. Many survivors who managed to escape further joined the ranks of the resistance and continued their fight against the enemy. Alexander Pechersky himself joined the Belarusian partisans, and in 1944 fought the Nazis again.

☝️ The Sobibor uprising is known to be the only ever successful mass escape from Nazi death camps in the history of WWII. The Nazi SS command, unable to bear the shame and trying to hide the traces of their crimes against humanity in Sobibor, ordered to raze the camp to the ground.

The crimes committed in Sobibor were part of the charges against the Nazis at the Nuremberg trials, and the stories told by eyewitnesses and participants of the uprising were depicted in many books and films. Today the Alexander Pechersky Foundation in Russia plays an important role in preserving the memory of the Sobibor prisoners’ feat.

🗓️ 210 years ago on this day, one of the greatest Russian poets and writers, Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov, was born.

His Scottish ancestor George Lermont entered military service in Russia at the beginning of the 17th century and stayed in our country. Lermont is considered a descendant of the legendary 13th century bard Thomas of Ercildoune (now Earlston), also known as Thomas the Rhymer, whose work so delighted his contemporaries that he was even credited with the gift of prophecy.

Throughout his life, Mikhail Lermontov showed a keen interest in the mysterious Scotland, which is mentioned in at least two of his poems.

In my beloved Scottish highlands,
Under a curtain of cold mists,
Between the sky of storms and dry sands,
The grave of Ossian exists.

Mikhail Lermontov, an excerpt from “The Grave of Ossian”, 1830

👉 Denis Moskalenko, Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh, honoured the memory of the great Russian poet by laying flowers at his monument, erected in Earlston in 2014.

📰 Ambassador Andrei Kelin’s interview with Izvestia newspaper

Key talking points:

🟣 The question of whether the Ukrainian armed forces should be allowed to strike deep into the Russian territory using foreign long-range systems remains a pressing issue fraught with clear risks of escalation. The British government is well aware of this. Unwilling to go it alone, it is seeking to rope in as many partners as possible to make dangerous decisions.

🟣 Given London’s self-declared leadership in supporting Ukraine, it is hardly surprising that significant numbers of British "soldiers of fortune" have found their way to the zone of the special military operation. But their fate is often grim.

🟣 Since the Labour assumed office, London’s policy towards Ukraine has not undergone any visible changes. Except that the official rhetoric has become more emotional and ideological, sometimes going beyond diplomatic norms.

🟣 London continues to scare the public with an imaginary "Russian threat", precluding any discussion of the West's responsibility for instigating the Ukraine crisis.

🟣 A rupture of diplomatic relations between states is a last resort. At present, we do not see sufficient grounds for such a step. We assume that the British do understand the importance of maintaining communication channels between our nations.

🟣 The British authorities may invoke "security concerns" for Sergei and Yulia Skripal as much as they like, claiming their need for protection from imaginary threats. But we understand that the real issue lies in the UK government's desire to hide the truth about the Salisbury incident — a provocation that London used to launch a widespread anti-Russian campaign across Europe.

🟣 Like other Western capitals London is persistently exploring "legal" means to appropriate Russia's assets. <...> The core problem is that the expropriation of sovereign assets, even if blocked, would be seen as blatant theft on an international scale, regardless of the justification.

🟣 With the start of the special military operation, when London unleashed a real economic war against us, many British companies had to pull out of Russia. These firms were essentially coerced to do so, facing the threat of criminal charges, heavy fines, and reputational damage from negative public relations campaigns.

🟣 Today, Britain’s leadership is perceived by most Russians as the chief architect of the Western anti-Russian front, an instigator and sometimes even a direct accomplice in almost all hostile actions affecting our nation’s interests.

📰 Regarding a yet another misleading publication in The Times

The consistent development of equitable mutually beneficial cooperation within the #BRICS framework has evidently provoked a degree of unconcealed irritation within the British establishment <...>.

BRICS is increasingly becoming a target of deliberate attacks and systematic attempts to undermine its credibility by the neoliberal regimes and its crony media outlets.

The British media has always acted as an instigator, deliberately distorting the very essence and principles of the association in an attempt to portray BRICS as an antagonist and a collective adversary of the West.

👎 A quintessential example of such alarmist propaganda is Roger Boyes' article in The Times, titled Expanding BRICS Alliance Should Worry NATO.

Mr Boyes crafts a narrative from an alternate (un)reality, in which BRICS is purported to resemble a military alliance positioned against NATO.

A crash course for the clueless "diplomatic editors" 👇

The genuine goals and interests of the association starkly contrast with the fantasies presented in this publication, which has, in recent years, devolved into a run-of-the-mill tabloid.

BRICS has NEVER been, nor does it intend to become, a military alliance. BRICS is not an international organisation or an integration structure, but rather an interstate association of equal participants. It is a multidimensional strategic partnership founded on three key pillars: politics and security, economy and finance, and cultural and social ties.

Relations among BRICS partners are grounded in equality and mutual respect, the principles of openness, pragmatism, solidarity, and, crucially, a lack of bias against any party.

• One of the principal objectives of BRICS is to establish a fair and multilateral global economic system.

🤦‍♂️ It is utterly absurd to even entertain the notion of equating BRICS with the aggressive military alliance of NATO.

❗️ For decades, NATO's history has been marred by bloody invasions and the destabilisation of security across various regions worldwide.

What NATO is:

destruction, suffering, and misery for millions,
suppressing national identities,
relentless expanding of military infrastructure,
imposing neoliberal dictatorship for the benefit of a single nation,
decrepit relic of the Cold War, having long since lost its original purpose.

What BRICS is:

creation,
development assistance,
collaborative enrichment of civilisations,
respecting the interests of all nations to establish a truly just world order.

The yet another low-quality hit-piece published by another Western newspaper employs own neo-colonial ideas about international relations with the clear aim to incite unfounded fears.

By producing a biased article intended to tarnish BRICS, the author, who claims to be a diplomatic editor, merely projects his own flawed, aggressive worldview and embodies the classic British colonial mindset.

Such writing is not only tedious but also reveals the profound despair of the "not-so-flourishing Western garden," which is rapidly losing its relevance.

❗️ The UK's so-called sanctions, even though wrapped in vague notions of Western collective responsibility or 'personal missions', are illegitimate and futile.

This is consistently evidenced by the growth of Russia's trade with other countries, including those in the Global South, as well as our economy. Just today the World Bank raised Russia's GDP growth outlook to 3,2% for 2024.

The ongoing attempts to undermine free international trade are conspicuously similar to the previous government's policy. They do not correspond to the missions pledged by the Labour Party in order to be elected and result in lasting harm to the UK's own interests, the country's economy and its people's welfare.

🎙 President Vladimir Putin's remarks at the plenary session of the BRICS Business Forum

💬 The BRICS partners' joint efforts aimed at accelerating socioeconomic growth and ensuring sustainable development bring concrete, tangible results and in fact, contribute to improving the well-being and quality of life of our countries’ citizens. The numbers speak for themselves.

The association's total GDP exceeds US$60 trillion, and its overall share in global GDP easily surpasses that of the so-called G7, and it continues to grow.

By the end of 2024, BRICS countries are forecast to grow by an average of four percent. This exceeds G7 growth rates, which is only 1.7 percent, and the global average, projected at 3.2 percent.

BRICS accounts for approximately a quarter of global goods exports, with companies from BRICS countries dominating several key markets, including energy resources, metals and food – markets that are essential for sustainable economic development. In short, BRICS already plays a significant role in the global economy, and its influence will undoubtedly increase in the future.

📈 In fact, BRICS countries are a driving force of worldwide economic growth. In the foreseeable future, BRICS alone will contribute the bulk of the global GDP increment.
