✈️ On June 18, 1937, the now legendary and back then deemed impossible non-stop flight was undertaken by Soviet aviators through the "air road not taken before" — Moscow - North Pole - Vancouver. The crew consisting of commander Valery Chkalov, co-pilot Georgy Baidukov and navigator Aleksander Belyakov pursued an ambitious goal: for the first time in history to "connect" the continents by the shortest route - across the Arctic Ocean.
Especially for this and other long-distance flights, the Soviet aircraft engineer Andrey Tupolev in just one year created a single-engine ANT-25 with an extended wing. This design allowed to take more fuel and also increased the machine's planning ability.
🧊The flight, which lasted a total of 63 hours and 16 minutes, was conducted under extreme conditions. Due to Arctic frosts, ice had to be cut off from the cockpit windows manually, and the engine had to be cooled with tea and coffee water (the water reserves intended for this purpose were frozen). Due to cloud fronts pilots had to either pilot the aircraft blindly or change course, which resulted in overconsumption of about 300 litres of fuel.
The flight of Valery Chkalov's team became one of the biggest events in the history of world aviation. It demonstrated the advanced character of Soviet achievements in aircraft construction, proved to the whole world the highest professionalism and courage of Soviet aviators.
🤝 The three pilots feat was widely covered in the press - both Soviet and American. US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt personally received the crew in the Oval Office of the White House. Instead of the planned 15-minute conversation, he chatted with the Soviet crew for 1 hour and 40 minutes.
#FunFact (not so fun at the time): while preparing the flight, a network of radio stations was put in place along the entire Northern Sea Route. In addition, the flight was planned specifically when the drifting polar station "North Pole-1" under the leadership of Ivan Papanin worked in June 1937. The pilots even managed to get a weather report from the station, but just during the passage of this area on ANT-25 the antenna of the onboard radio station failed. So the crew travelled over the Arctic Ocean without any communication.

⚡️ Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the Ukraine conference in Switzerland
💬 The other day, Burgenstock, Switzerland, hosted the so-called Ukraine peace summit.
Kiev and Western capitals did their best to present it as a universal event. However, this wishful thinking has ended in a complete fiasco. Contrary to the attempts of Zelensky and his Anglo-Saxon masters, almost half of the 160 invited guests refused to engage in political tourism. A striving to involve as many countries of the Global South as possible has failed. <...>
The failure of the Swiss “gathering” was quite predictable. This was bound to happen because the Nazi Kiev regime and its Western masters did not intend to search for ways of resolving the Ukraine crisis by peaceful means from the very beginning. They are not interested in peace in Ukraine, they need further confrontation, escalation and expanded hostilities to implement their unrealisable dream of inflicting a “strategic defeat” on Russia. According to well-informed sources, Andrey Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, discussed with foreign delegations in Burgenstock additional weapons deliveries for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Anglo-Saxons and their Ukrainian puppets are trying to camouflage their aggressive intentions by using the completely bankrupt “Zelensky formula.” Its authors in the United States and on Bankovaya Street are trying to portray it as the only foundation for a peace settlement. They are insistently imposing it on the international community, while disregarding the opinion of other parties and their desire to make their own contribution to resolving the crisis. The same happened in Switzerland.
Cynical manipulations with seemingly nice-sounding (but absolutely inappropriate for the Burgenstock meeting) provisions of the “Zelensky formula,” including nuclear security, for obtaining support from Asian, African and Latin American countries, failed to help the organisers of the “summit.” This substandard ploy and open quackery highlight the real intentions of the West and the pro-Bandera regime in Kiev once again.
The lack of consensus among participants also confirms the zero result of the Alpine “get-together.” Far from all delegates agreed to support the openly anti-Russia concluding communique. At first, 12 delegations refused to sign it, and later their number reached 14 [now 15], including India, Indonesia, Jordan, Iraq, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, the Republic of South Africa and other influential states. Quite possibly, the number of these countries will increase.
❗️ It has become completely obvious that the Global Majority rejects the options of Kiev and the West for resolving the Ukraine crisis. It perceives their far from peaceful essence and does not want to be guided by the United States and its satellites.
We are confident that the world will continue to realise more clearly that the peace initiative, voiced by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in his June 14 remarks at the Russian Foreign Ministry, shows a real way towards a sustainable peace settlement.
<...>
The West and Kiev should stop their eyewash and trickery that aim to channel the discussion along false lines by misleading the international public and tampering with and misplacing the cause and effect of the Ukraine crisis. They have to understand that there is no reasonable alternative to the Russian President’s peace plan. The sooner they comprehend this, the faster the real process of resolving the conflict and ending hostilities will begin.
☝️ Otherwise, the terms for launching talks will be much worse for them.
<...>
Events similar to the Burgenstock “gathering” cannot create favourable conditions for truly serious dialogue to attain a truly comprehensive, sustainable and equitable peace; nor can they serve as a platform for such dialogue.

The Biden administration has lifted the restrictions [from the notorious Azov nationalist battalion] on the use of US weapons imposed earlier. Apparently, “after thorough review,” the US officials resolved that the Azov fighters never “espoused racist, xenophobic and ultranationalist views” or committed “humanitarian violations” after all.
Whatever the next bastard they bet on is capable of, if it suits their interests, they’ll be ready to put up with it.
#NATO
Ahead of the NATO summit in Washington, the alliance continues to ratchet up its propaganda rhetoric with regard to Russia. The bloc’s officials and the leadership of member countries are constantly talking about the threat of a Russian attack on the Baltic states and Poland.
Russia has not harboured any aggressive plans with regard to NATO and its member countries; nor does it have such plans today. At the same time, we realise that the alliance does have such plans. Washington does not need a peaceful Europe.

⚡️ On the termination of the Russian Federation’s participation in the dispute before the ICAO Council with Australia and the Netherlands concerning the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 (Boeing 777-200)
In March 2022, Australia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands filed a case against the Russian Federation in the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Council concerning the 2014 crash of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17. <...>
Despite Russia’s objections, in March 2023 the ICAO Council asserted its competence to consider the dispute. This decision granted the Council powers similar to those of a criminal court or investigative body, which are not explicitly outlined in Article 84 of the Chicago Convention. Russia disagrees with this decision and has never recognised the Council’s authority in this matter.
Nonetheless, Russia continued to participate in the proceedings, hoping to use of the ICAO platform for a professional dialogue regarding the plane crash.
🔻 To facilitate this dialogue, Russia has repeatedly proposed that the ICAO Council conduct a comprehensive, thorough, and independent international investigation into the crash of flight MH17 <...>. However, the ICAO Council declined to initiate such an investigation.. <....>
🔻 The dispute resolution mechanism of the ICAO Council was originally designed without sufficient independence to ensure impartiality. <...>
🔻 Under the influence of the collective West and their satellites, the ICAO Council disregarded the International Court of Justice’s ruling of January 31, 2024, in the case of Ukraine v. Russia, which dismissed claims holding Russia accountable for the MH17 flight tragedy. <...>
❗️In these conditions, an impartial establishment of facts, let alone a fair decision, become impossible. The ICAO Council does not serve as a credible venue for uncovering the truth. Continuing our participation in the show being staged there seems futile.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings to organisers and participants in the 15th International IT Forum in Khanty-Mansiysk
💬 I would like to offer my warm welcome to the organisers and participants in the 15th International IT Forum.
Discussing information and communication technologies is becoming especially significant in modern conditions. Russia consistently advocates fair management of the international digital environment by closing legally binding agreements. Russian professionals are working on solving this problem in close coordination with #SCO and #BRICS partners, as well as with other countries of the Global Majority.
A global intergovernmental registry of contact points was created in May 2024 at Russia’s initiative. This first universal measure to strengthen trust in the online environment will help establish direct links between competent bodies in the event of cyberattacks and other incidents. BRICS is launching a similar mechanism soon.
The other initiatives by Russia that I want to single out include a draft comprehensive convention on combating crimes committed using information and communication technologies.
We are also interested in expanding international cooperation in AI, the use of which can bring both potential economic benefits and grave security risks.
I am confident that this meeting will also contribute to our joint efforts and I believe that participants will enjoy highly professional discussions and helpful exchanges while final recommendations will be translated into actual practices.

Nation-building in post-Maidan Ukraine: historical parallels
Read in full
🔸 The coup-d'état of February 21-22, 2014, meant more than a change of political regime in Ukraine. It was the end of symbolic history of the Soviet Ukraine and the beginning of something fundamentally different.
🔸 Euromaidan meant full rejection of the principles of social contract. The first legislative act of the new post-coup powers was to revoke the the Kivalov-Kolesnichenko language law that guaranteed a minimum rights for Russian-speaking population and ethnic minorities. After this, the total and radical offensive on everything Russian and non-Ukrainian started.
🔸 The Ukrainian state has a brief history. In post‑Maidan Ukraine, the origin of the Ukrainian state rests with the Ukrainian People's Republic. Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andrey Parubiy called for recognizing and legislating the succession and continuity of the present Ukrainian state from the Ukrainian People's Republic (formally existed from November 1917 to November 1920 - 3 years!), and for the period between "the Republic" and independent Ukraine... [i.e. from 1920 to 1991 when Ukraine prospered and became one of the most developed parts of the then Europe] to be considered a "Soviet occupation".
❗️ The historical myth of modern Ukraine is built on the absolute non-recognition of the Soviet historical inheritance. This results in a combination of incompatible things: based on the use of achievements of the tsarist, imperial and Soviet periods with a total negation of everything Russian and Soviet.
🔸 A research, carried out by Google, turned out that 76% of users from Ukraine use the Russian language while searching on the Internet. 10,1% of users only prefer to use Ukrainian – fewer than the number of those who use English (13,5%). However, immediately after the victory of Euromaidan, Ukraine launched an attack on the Russian language and the Russian national minority as a whole.
🔸 Books in Russian are removed from Ukrainian libraries and demonstratively thrown into landfills; streets in Ukrainian cities named after Russian writers and historical figures are renamed. Amid this Third Reich-style policy, the silence of Western leaders, who actually brought the guardians of ethnic Ukrainian purity to power, looks especially outrageous.
🔸 The so-called state language ombudsman makes a statement about offensive Ukrainization on the 10th anniversary of the burning of the Odessa Trade Unions House, when, according to official data alone, 48 people – supporters of the Russian World and random persons – were killed.
☝️ It is not too difficult to see that policy adherence by the Ukrainian post‑Maidan authorities to the tradition of Ukrainian integral nationalism – a variety of Nazism. They act according to the principle: "One country – one people – one language."

⚡️ The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, on the eve of the International Day of Parliamentarism celebrated annually on 30 June in accordance with United Nations General Assembly resolution A/Res/72/278 adopted on 22 May 2018, is calling on international parliamentary organizations and parliaments of the world to work together towards strengthening peaceful and mutually beneficial relations among peoples and nations.
Senators of the Russian Federation note that shaping a new, more just multipolar world order is an objective process. Attempts by the collective West to impose on the international community a unipolar world order based on the self-interested diktat of Washington and a group of its satellites are expectedly failing. In these conditions, parliamentary diplomacy becomes increasingly important in establishing a constructive dialogue among nations.
The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation emphasizes that the Inter-Parliamentary Union has a special role to play in making the joint work of legislators from different countries more effective, especially on countering new challenges and threats faced by humanity.
🤝 The senators of the Russian Federation are developing productive cooperation with colleagues from other countries within the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, Asian Parliamentary Assembly and Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum.
The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation strongly condemns the openly destructive attempts of the countries of the collective West to block the work of the Russian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA).
<...>
☝️ The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation notes the importance of further developing direct contacts with the Arab Parliament, Parliament of the Latin American and Caribbean States, Parliament of the South American Common Market, Central American Parliament, as well as with the Arab Inter Parliamentary Union, African Parliamentary Union, Pan African Parliament, Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States, and Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
The senators of the Russian Federation express hope that during the upcoming 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg in July 2024, legislators from the #BRICS member countries meeting in an expanded format for the first time, will contribute to a more efficient and democratic international relations system, preventing unilateral restrictive measures against sovereign states, and strengthening ties with developing countries and their integration associations.

🇷🇺🇰🇵 Beginning of Russia's President Vladimir Putin's conversation with the Chairman of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un
💬 Vladimir Putin: There are decades of close friendship and cooperation between Russia and the DPRK. Our countries’ interaction is based on the principles of equality and respect for each other’s interests.
Last year, we marked 75 years of diplomatic relations and this year – the 75th Anniversary of the first interstate document, the Agreement on Economic and Cultural Cooperation.
Following your visit to Russia last year, we have made significant progress in strengthening modern-day ties between our countries. Today, a new fundamental document has been prepared, which will form the backbone of our relationship in the long term.
Russian-Korean friendship was forged during a difficult period. In 1945, Soviet soldiers fought side by side with Korean patriots for the liberation of Korea from Japanese invaders. Our pilots made tens of thousands of combat flights during the 1950–1953 liberation war. Today we will lay wreaths at the Liberation Monument. The heroism of our predecessors is a solid foundation for the further development of our relations today.
We highly value your consistent and unwavering support for Russian policy, including in relation to Ukraine. I am referring to our struggle against the hegemonistic and imperialist policy towards the Russian Federation, which the US and its satellite states have been dictating for decades.
<...>
I am delighted to see you again, and I hope that our next meeting will take place in Moscow.

I am delighted to see you again, and I hope that our next meeting will take place in Moscow.
