1 June marks the 240th anniversary of Simferopol city foundation.
The name Simferopol has a Greek origin. It is translated as "city of benefit", "city of common good", "guardian city".
On the site of the city was found the mausoleum of King Skilur, the king of Scythians. He was buried in full battle attire and with a huge amount of gold.
In Simferopol, the great doctor Nikolai Ivanovich Pirogov was the first in the world to create a new system of care for the wounded with the help of nurses of mercy.
In 1912 in Simferopol Kapellmeister Yakov Bogorad wrote the most famous military march - "Farewell of Slavianka".
Also in Simferopol was created the antimicrobial drug Miramistin, thanks to which millions of people were able to cure themselves of diseases.

#Ukraine

Despite Paris's attempts to conceal the involvement of its military personnel in the conflict, the Kiev regime is deliberately publicising this turn of events in order to once again declare broad international support.

<...>

In addition to France, Poland and the Baltic countries also spoke about the possible deployment of their military contingents. What does that mean? That means that their original plan regarding Ukraine has completely failed. They are frantically looking for new ways to continue this campaign. They are still afraid to tell the truth to the citizens of Ukraine that they have become a hostage and now also a victim of NATO’s reckless gamble led by the United States.

#EU #Sanctions

On May 27, 2024, the European Union introduced another anti-Russia sanctions regime under a far-fetched pretext for alleged human rights violations, reprisals against civil society and the democratic opposition. <...> To call a spade a spade, they have created another openly discriminatory mechanism for punishing Russian citizens for their striving to live in a country free from foreign pressure, to uphold their national interests, to speak Russian, just to be citizens and to love their Motherland.

It is surprising that those living in the blooming EU garden (as Josep Borrell once put it) fail to notice obvious things: Such self-exposing Russophobic stunts merely serve to further consolidate our society that clearly sees the real goals of the European Union and the West with regard to Russia.
⚜️On June 3 Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and Minister of the Government of Moscow Sergey Cheremin, who take part in World Cities Summit in Singapore paid a call to H.E. Nikolay Kudashev Ambassador of the Russian Federation, and shared their views and perspectives of international cooperation on municipal level.
We are glad that exclusive and unique experience and tremendous achievements of such vibrant cities as Moscow and Kazan, Russian Federation, in urban development will be highlighted during World Cities Summit and will be of value for other participants.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview for No Statute of Limitations project (Moscow, June 1, 2024)

Key talking points:

• Unfortunately, we are witnessing the attempts to “realise” history, to rewrite it, and to equate those who defeated Nazism to the Nazi hordes which fact is particularly salient in the case of Ukraine. That is why we find important the efforts to create awareness carried out by public organisations, the Foreign Ministry and other agencies, as well as the Ministry of Culture, the Russian Historical Society, the Russian Military History Society, and our scouts who every year discover burial sites of the victims who died by the hand of Hitler’s criminals in different parts of our country and often beyond its borders.

• The revival of Nazism is clear as day witnessed today in Ukraine.

• Sadly, after the special military operation against Nazism started in Ukraine, European countries - Germany, Japan and Italy - that abstained during the General Assembly voting on the resolution against the glorification of Nazism started voting against it.

• In July 2008, the Germans decided to make lump-sum payments to siege survivors of Jewish descent only. We contacted them and said that justice must prevail. All siege survivors had similar amounts of suffering to endure. They all experienced sub-zero chills and died. It was a harrowing part of the Great Patriotic War, or World War II. We were told that Holocaust victims can and should be compensated according to the law, while other people are not victims of the Holocaust. Clearly, this came across as a cynical remark.

• If we look at the current situation in NATO and EU, the Baltic nations, the Poles and the Czechs are part of the most aggressive group in the European organisations. These countries initiate the most Russophobic approaches and actions of the EU and NATO.

🇷🇺🇮🇳📞 Russia's President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi spoke over the phone.

The President of Russia warmheartedly congratulated Narendra Modi on the success of the Indian People's Party in the general parliamentary elections that finished a few days ago. This reflects the support of the political course pursued by the Indian leadership, recognition of the results achieved in the country's socioeconomic development, and its strengthening international authority.

Sides expressed their satisfaction with the current level of especially privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India, which will continue to expand in all areas.

It was agreed to continue constructive personal interaction between the two countries' leaders.

📃 A message of congratulations was also sent to Narendra Modi:

"The results of the voting once again reaffirm your high personal political reputation, as well as the support of the course you pursue towards India’s fast socioeconomic development and protection of its interests on the global stage.

We consider relations of especially privileged strategic partnership with New Delhi of great importance. I am confident that further promotion of mutually beneficial cooperation and giving it new substance aligns with the interests of the Russian and Indian nations.

Of course, I also hope that we will continue our open dialogue and constructive joint work on the topical issues on bilateral and international agenda."

🇷🇺🇧🇫 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s answers to media questions at a joint news conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso K.J.M. Traoré following talks (Ouagadougou, June 5, 2024)

Key points:

• We have long-standing relations with Burkina Faso. Our relations got a powerful boost from changes in your country and President Ibrahim Traoré assuming office.

• Almost every day we see evidence - and President Traoré shared these assessments today - that after a mighty wave of political decolonisation of the African continent in the 20th century, colonial and neo-colonial practices in the economy are still alive.

• Our relations with African countries have never been of a colonial nature. With President Ibrahim Traoré in office, we are now able to fully unlock the potential of mutually beneficial and equal cooperation across various areas, including the economy, social sphere, health care, education, and military and military-technical cooperation.

Russian instructors work here [in Burkina Faso]. There will be more of them as we move forward. Concurrently, we provide training for the armed forces and law enforcement personnel of Burkina Faso in the Russian Federation. This type of partnership is very specific and highly advanced. Without a doubt, this cooperation will help wipe out the remaining hotbeds of terrorism in Burkina Faso.

• The Americans have so far been unable to get rid of the syndrome of omnipotence and impunity, and I’m not sure if they ever will. They believe they can make claims all over the world […] They measure international relations by their own yardstick of who is for the United States and who is against it. That is why it does not concern us. Our relations with our African friends rely solely on mutual interest, benefit and full equality.

🇷🇺🇮🇷🇨🇳 Joint Statement on behalf of the People’s Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation under the agenda item 6 of the session of the IAEA Board of Governors «Verification and monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Iran in light of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015)»

📃 Our countries have continuously been strong supporters of the JCPOA.

We spared no effort in attempting to restore the JCPOA, participating in nine rounds of negotiations here in Vienna. Our three countries confirmed readiness to conclude the agreement on the restoration of the agreement based on the text of August 2022.

☝️ Unfortunately, other participants of the JCPOA – France, Germany and the UK – as well as the US, despite their promises, chose a different course of action, foregoing our shared goal of resumption of the JCPOA implementation for the sake of their own political considerations.

The People’s Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation are of the view that provisions of the JCPOA continue to be valid – as underpinned by the UNSCR 2231.

<...>

While recalling paragraph 8 of the UNSCR 2231, we emphasize that after the time frames envisaged in the JCPOA and UNSCR 2231, the Iranian nuclear programme will be treated in the same manner as that of any other non-nuclear weapon state party to the NPT.

❗️ Should the full implementation of the JCPOA be in place today, it would have alleviated the overwhelming majority of existing questions regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear programme on a mutually accepted basis.

The People’s Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation are convinced that it is time for Western countries to demonstrate political will, restrain themselves from the endless wheel of escalation that they have been spinning for the past almost two years and take the necessary step towards the revival of the JCPOA.

Embassy comment

I have read Josep Borrell's interview with senior columnist Vikram Khanna in today's Straits Times edition. With all our respect for the high position of the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the conversation left a strange feeling.

On the one hand, there is talk about peace. On the other hand, there are calls to rearm NATO and increase military spending, encouraging comments about the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev, intimidation by the “Russian threat” and discussions about the relationship between the security of Ukraine and the security of Spain. In a word, a familiar and rather boring set of theses, if not for the mention of the “peace conference” on Ukraine in Switzerland in mid-June 2024, which, apparently, is intended to somehow refresh the menu of the respected Mr. Borrell.

However, we do not think that this attempt to breathe life into well-worn confrontational cliches will succeed. What kind of substantive discussions can we talk about at the conference when the only issue on its agenda is Zelensky’s aggressive and ultimative formula, which aims at the strategic defeat of Russia? What kind of substantive discussions can we talk about when the conference is dominated by one thought that serves the needs of a hybrid war against Russia? It is obvious that if the issue is formulated this way, the event in Switzerland is doomed to failure. And along with it, the followers and like-minded people of Mr. Borrell are doomed to failure. But the respected High Representative really doesn’t want to admit this. However, there is still time. That’s for sure “we are the time that still remains.”
