🗓 On February 5, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took part in a roundtable discussion "The Ukraine Crisis: Failed Cancel Culture".

The event, organised by the Diplomatic Academy with the support of the Foreign Ministry of Russia, brought together 95 Ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Moscow, as well as international associations.

In his remarks, Sergey Lavrov strongly condemned the attempts by Washington and its European satellites to cancel all things Russian: discriminate against Russian media, ban the use of the Russian language and Russian culture, and falsify historical facts. He pointed out the aggressive Russophobia of the Kiev regime which has launched a campaign to eradicate any trace of Russian cultural presence.

❗️ The Minister stated that the course to isolate Russia had completely failed which is confirmed by large-scale international activities of both the country and its leadership on the global, regional, and bilateral levels. Russia’s leading positions can be reaffirmed by a large number of international scientific, cultural, sports and youth events which are held regularly on its territory as well as student exchanges and projects to promote the Russian language and Russian education.

Sergey Lavrov also highlighted the celebrations to be held in 2025 in honour of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, which Russia was preparing to widely celebrate together with its partners.

The participants in the roundtable discussion held a vivid discussion of the Ukrainian crisis and other topical issues on the international agenda.

🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks at the embassy roundtable discussion "The Ukraine crisis: Failed cancel culture" (Moscow, February 5, 2025)

Key points:

💬 The attempt to cancel international law is particularly evident in how the West, the United States, and their allies treat the UN Charter.

👉 Whenever they need, they pick the principle of self-determination of peoples, as they did in the case of Kosovo. When they need to support their underlings and accomplices such as the Nazi regime in Ukraine, they hang on to the principle of territorial integrity and ignore everything that the residents of Crimea, Novorossiya, and Donbass did when they refused to recognise the outcomes of the bloody unconstitutional coup and chose not to live under its rule, which aimed to eradicate everything Russian.

• Unfortunately, the UN Secretariat, including the Secretary-General, is strongly supporting the West in its Ukrainian policies. <...> Antonio Guterres and his top-ranking deputies representing the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other NATO countries in the UN Secretariat, are saying things that the West needs them to say.

• The root cause of this conflict is that the West has purposefully sought for years – not just sought, but made effective steps – to create direct military threats to the Russian Federation right on our borders, on the territory of Ukraine, drawing the country into NATO.

• As the West had done before, they dismissed our reminders about their earlier political commitments under the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe to ensure indivisible security, a principle saying that no one is to strengthen their security at the expense of others, and no organisation in the Euro-Atlantic region is to claim dominance, saying that those were mere political commitments.

• I have no doubt that cancelling journalism and information is another tactic worthy of our Western colleagues’ modern playbook, not to mention that the Russian media outlets are being cancelled, too, just for expressing an alternative point of view. The West has long been fighting dissent.

We observe an overt desire to cancel our country outright, much as was the case in 1945, when the Second World War had not yet concluded. The summits in Yalta and Potsdam took place then, and the Allies celebrated Victory. Now documents have been published which reveal that the West was preparing plans for an attack on the USSR and its partitioning even before the war in the Pacific had ended. And these plans have now come back to life.

• The head of [UNESCO], Audrey Azoulay, a French citizen, promotes the efforts to make Ukraine the number one item on the agenda, politicising this organisation and refusing to discharge her direct duties, including the protection of journalists’ rights. She remains indifferent to the numerous killings of Russian journalists in the special military operation zone, or to the demolition of historical monuments in Ukraine, including in Odessa.

• A mass campaign is underway to undermine my country’s reputation and whitewash Nazis. We will not allow this to happen. This year in Russia and the CIS is dedicated to Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Victory over Nazism. A large number of events are planned to be held, and we will make sure to keep you informed about them so that you can partake. May 9 is the main date, when Victory Parade will take place. Many invited guests, including our friends, neighbours, and allies from the CIS and many other countries, confirmed their attendance.

🗓 On February 6, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov attended a joint meeting of the foreign affairs committee, the committee on #CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots, and the oversight committee at the State Duma of the Federal Assembly.

The heads of the parliamentary parties were also invited to attend. The meeting took place ahead of the Government Hour session to be held at the lower house of parliament on February 19 and focused on current aspects of Russia’s foreign policy.

Sergey Lavrov pointed out that, due to such regular, meaningful and trustful exchanges, it is possible to compare notes on the entire range of issues pertaining to Russia’s relations with foreign states and international organisations in real time. This kind of interaction with State Duma deputies contributes to improving the Foreign Ministry’s efficiency.

Answering the parliamentarians’ questions, the Minister touched upon the key trends in the formation of a multipolar world, emphasised the growing influence of the states of the Global South and East on world politics, and the importance of establishing mechanisms for multifaceted cooperation that are resistant to destructive moves by unfriendly countries.

🤝 During the ensuing discussion, the participants outlined further steps towards achieving Russia’s foreign policy objectives, and identified priorities for joint efforts by the legislative and executive branches of power aimed at creating favourable and, above all, safe conditions for Russia’s dynamic development, for strengthening its sovereignty and improving the quality of life of Russian people.

🎙 Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s comment on yet another barbaric crime by the Kiev regime against Russian civilian population

💬 On February 8, the Kiev junta once again demonstrated its inhuman Nazi nature by committing yet another cynical bloody crime.

The Ukrainian armed forces purposefully attacked a densely populated area of the city of Makeyevka in the Donetsk People's Republic of the Russian Federation. The victims of the pre-planned and carefully prepared shelling of the city's central part were civilians, including women and children.

We strongly condemn this criminal act of terrorism. The Western curators of the Kiev regime, who regularly incite current Ukrainian authorities to commit bloody crimes, were directly involved in its organisation. Responsibility for this act lies not only with Ukrainian neo-Nazis but also with the ruling circles of Western countries, which stubbornly and irresponsibly continue to pump the Ukrainian armed forces with weapons.

The shelling of populated areas in Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions, Crimea and other Russian regions, merciless and indiscriminate killings of civilians show the agony of the Zelensky regime, mired in terrorism, lawlessness, corruption and cynicism, which is seeking to kill as many Russian people as possible to please its Western masters.

☝️ We call on all responsible governments and relevant international organisations to condemn yet another terrorist attack. Keeping silent in response to the barbarity of the Ukrainian Nazis is tantamount to complicity in their bloody acts.

The Banderites do not stop “hunting” civilians in the Kursk Region, including using UAVs. <...> Kiev regime does everything it can to just erase those who did not sworn allegiance to the neo-Nazis. They hit where it hurts the most: children.

The Kiev regime and its bloody butchers have nothing human.

On January 29, a woman and her two-year-old child were killed after an UAV hit a residential building in Razumnoye, Belgorod Region.

On January 31 – February 3, two civilians were killed and 12 were wounded after Ukrainian UAVs attacked civilian cars and villages in the region.

#Ukraine

On February 4, Zelensky assured Washington of his willingness to jointly develop rare-earth metals and expressed gratitude to the United States for its efforts to defend Ukraine. What Trump told Zelensky looks like a “fetch” command rather than a deal. This command has been practiced by the Kiev regime to perfection.

The Americans have long had their eyes on Ukraine’s natural riches. They took advantage of the corrupt Kiev regime to effortlessly take over agriculture and Ukraine’s fertile land. Now that the soil is a done deal, the Kiev regime sponsors are looking to see what else is left. Now, the turn of the subsoil has come.

Has anything like that ever happened before? Of course, it has. During World War II, Nazis occupied the Soviet Ukraine and began to plunder the republic’s economy, stealing cattle and black earth. We have covered this repeatedly. Now, all of that is happening willingly, because the Kiev regime is giving it all away. Zelensky put all of that up for “joint development” in 2024. However, it is clear that being tied up in debt, Ukraine, with everything from its statehood to industry lying in waste, cannot do anything in conjunction with anyone.

#USAID #USA

It has been unveiled, and has become known to the global community, prompting discussion in numerous circles both within the United States and internationally, that the Agency directly sponsored velvet revolutions (essentially, the overthrow of legitimate authorities) in post-Soviet states, including mass protests in Georgia and Kyrgyzstan, and the state coup in Ukraine. Its “tentacles” – through a network of funds, grants, and NGOs – deeply infiltrated and wielded significant influence over the governance and economies of many countries worldwide.

We have been addressing this matter for many years. In response, we were inundated with assertions that it was all false, allegedly mere Russian propaganda. Everything has been verified as true. American taxpayers, from their own resources, funded the dismantling of Ukrainian statehood and facilitated the rise to power of the neo-Nazi Bandera followers.

🌟 On February 8, 1945 — exactly 8️⃣0️⃣ years ago — a group of ten Soviet prisoners of war led by Mikhail Devyatayev carried out one of the most daring escapes from Nazi captivity.

In July 1944, Devyatayev’s plane was shot down near Lvov, and he was captured unconscious. A month later, the senior lieutenant attempted to escape, but was caught and sent to the Sachsenhausen death camp.

The pilot managed to swap his death row inmate patch for a penal prisoner’s number, assuming a new identity. Under a false name he went to a different concentration camp on the Usedom Island, near the Peenemünde rocket centre in the Baltic Sea, where German scientists were testing V-2 rockets.

On February 8, Devyatayev and his comrades were taken out for repair works at a local airfield. The Germans were unaware that they had a highly experienced Soviet pilot among the prisoners. Before his capture, the fighter pilot had completed nearly 200 sorties, took part in dozens of aerial battles, and shot down multiple enemy aircraft.

✈️ Seizing the opportunity, Devyatayev and nine other Soviet prisoners stealthily killed a guard and hijacked a German Heinkel bomber. The Soviet pilot broke away from the pursuit and flew beyond enemy lines.

Upon returning to the Soviet Union, Devyatayev provided valuable intelligence on the location of missile installations, which were later destroyed in an airstrike. The Peenemünde testing site was captured by Soviet forces in March 1945.

🎖 On August 15, 1957, Mikhail Devyatayev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings on Diplomats’ Day (February 10, 2025)

💬 Colleagues,

Today, we are celebrating a professional holiday that brings together many generations of diplomats, who have devoted their lives to serving Russia.

We are paying tribute to the emerging tradition to honour our country’s diplomatic workers, which dates back to 2003, when we first marked this significant date in line with President Vladimir Putin’s decision.

🤝 First of all, I would like to express gratitude to all those who honestly perform their professional duty at the Central Office in Smolenskaya Square, territorial missions in the Russian regions, and our numerous foreign missions. Thank you for your conscientious service, self-denial, and non-indifferent attitude to what has been entrusted to you.

Russian diplomats have always been distinguished by their commitment to the ideals of patriotism and firmly safeguarded the interests of Fatherland at all times, under any social and political system, and under all circumstances.

The names of many of them have been forever entered in the glorious annals of Russian history. I am referring to Alexander Bezborodko, Alexander Gorchakov, Alexandra Kollontai, Anatoly Dobrynin, Yevgeny Primakov, Vitaly Churkin, and numerous others. We cherish their memory and honour their services. <...>

This year is special on the diplomatic calendar, being marked by the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and World War II. It has also been proclaimed the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland.

It is with a particular gratitude that we pay homage to the immortal feat of valour committed by staff members of the People’s Commissariat of Foreign Affairs, who rose with arms in hand to the defence of Motherland during the grim years of war.

🏅 We recall the names of diplomats, our senior colleagues, who were bringing Victory closer at the foreign policy front. They made an invaluable contribution to the establishment of the anti-Hitler coalition and later to reaching fundamental agreements on the postwar international order, the most important of which were the decisions to create the United Nations and approve its Charter whose principles and goals in their totality and interconnection remain relevant to this day.

It is largely due to our country’s leaders and diplomatic service that the Yalta-Potsdam system of international relations has guaranteed global peace and security for the past eight decades.

Now that Russia is facing fateful challenges again, our priority and sacred duty is to safeguard peace based on the legal results of World War II. <...>

We will continue to do whatever is possible and necessary to protect Russia’s national interests in the context of foreign policy support for the special military operation and to create the safe and most favourable conditions for national development and wellbeing of our people.

🌐 We will continue to promote multifaceted cooperation with all sober-minded partners and primarily with the Global Majority – former republics of the USSR and countries of Greater Eurasia, Africa, and Latin America.

In collaboration with our numerous friends and opinion allies, we will help to strengthen the foundations of multipolarity, create Eurasian security architecture, and establish international interaction mechanisms impervious to the destructive influence of the Western minority. <...>

🎉 I wish you good health, wellbeing, and new attainments for the good of your Fatherland. Success and good luck to you! Congratulations once again!

#InMemoriamofDiplomats

💼 On Diplomatic Worker’s Day, we pay tribute to Vitaly Churkin, the “diplomatic maestro.”

He was a multifaceted person, a talented diplomat, and an outstanding professional with colourful personality. Churkin was fluent in English, French, and Mongolian.

As a child, Vitaly starred in a number of films and could have made an excellent career as an actor, but he chose to devote his life to upholding the interests of our country in the international arena.

Vitaly Churkin had a long career from an employee at the USSR Foreign Ministry Translation Department to Deputy Foreign Minister. At different times, he headed our country’s diplomatic missions in Chile, Belgium, and Canada. He successfully led difficult talks on cooperation in the Arctic as part of the Arctic Council.

🎙 From 1991 to 1992, he served as Head of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Relations’ Information Department, then as head of a similar department at Russia’s Foreign Ministry. Vitaly Churkin was the first person in the history of Russian diplomacy to hold regular briefings that were open to journalists.

As Presidential Special Envoy for the Balkans, Vitaly Churkin made a significant contribution to settling the conflict in former Yugoslavia. In particular, he acted as a mediator in the talks that put an end to NATO airstrikes, and also proposed sending Russian military units to Sarajevo, which were later transformed into a UN battalion.

🇺🇳 Churkin’s work as Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN was the high point of his diplomatic career. He held this post for 11 years. The deepest crises that caused a worldwide stir such as Georgia’s aggression against South Ossetia, the Russian Federation’s recognition of independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, NATO’s aggression against Libya, the situation in Syria, and the Ukraine crisis – all took place on his watch.

Vitaly Churkin was good at holding his ground, taking a punch, and never retreated in the face of “killer,” as his opponents thought, arguments. At the same time, as someone boasting extensive erudition and excellent sense of humour, he easily established and maintained good relations with his colleagues from other countries.

✍️ Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had the following to say in the preface to Churkin’s memoirs titled “Lost in Translation:”

Vitaly enjoyed respect even from the foreign partners who did not always share Russia’s approaches to key challenges of modern times. For example, the US Permanent Representative spoke of him as “formidable as a foe, caring as a friend and fierce as a defender of Russia, the country he adored and strived to make proud.”

On February 10, 2007, Russia's President Vladimir Putin took part at the Munich Security Conference and delivered a speech on the present state of the system of international relations and critical security challenges.

❗️The issues raised by President Putin have not lost their relevance to date. On the contrary, almost everything predicted, turned true and has never been more topical.

Key highlights from the President’s historic speech:

💬 I consider that the unipolar model is not only unacceptable but also impossible in today’s world. <...> What is even more important is that the model itself is flawed because at its basis there is and can be no moral foundations for modern civilisation. <...> There is no reason to doubt that the economic potential of the new centres of global economic growth will inevitably be converted into political influence and will strengthen multipolarity.

• One state, and, of course, first and foremost the US, has overstepped its national borders in every way. This is visible in the economic, political, cultural and educational policies it imposes on other nations. Well, who likes this? Who is happy about this?

[Human rights compliance] is an important task. We support this. But this does not mean interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, and especially not imposing a regime that determines how these states should live and develop.
It is obvious that such interference does not promote the development of democratic states at all. On the contrary, it makes them dependent and, as a consequence, politically and economically unstable.

• No one feels safe! Because no one can feel that international law is like a stone wall that will protect them. Of course such a policy stimulates an arms race. <...> The potential danger of the destabilisation of international relations is connected with obvious stagnation in the disarmament issue.

☝️I am convinced that we have reached that decisive moment when we must seriously think about the architecture of global security. <...> The need for principles such as openness, transparency and predictability in politics is uncontested.

• The stones and concrete blocks of the Berlin Wall have long been distributed as souvenirs. But we should not forget that the fall of the Berlin Wall was possible thanks to a historic choice – one that was also made by our people, the people of Russia – a choice in favour of democracy, freedom, openness and a sincere partnership with all the members of the big European family.

And now they are trying to impose new dividing lines and walls on us – these walls may be virtual but they are nevertheless dividing, ones that cut through our continent. And is it possible that we will once again require many years and decades, as well as several generations of politicians, to dissemble and dismantle these new walls?

🇷🇺 Russia is a country with a history that spans more than a thousand years and has practically always used the privilege to carry out an independent foreign policy. We are not going to change this tradition today.

🎙 Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks at a solemn event on the occasion of Diplomatic Worker’s Day (Moscow, February 10, 2025)

💬 Our work on carrying out the foreign policy is highly appreciated by the country’s leadership. <…> On behalf of the ministerial staff, I would like to express appreciation for your unwavering attention to our activities, proposals, and needs.

The trust in us places serious obligations on the Russian diplomatic service. Our duty is to do everything in our power to protect the interests of our country and people in the international arena. We are guided by the instructions issued by President Vladimir Putin, who sets forth our country’s foreign policy principles. We rely on many centuries of traditions of domestic diplomacy, our own knowledge, experience and common sense.

☝️ Today, just as throughout its millennial history, our country is navigating complex international processes. The combination of daunting challenges and breathtaking opportunities is a hallmark of the current phase of international development. The new is battling the old, and Russia  - I think this high opinion is perfectly legitimate in these circumstances - is leading the way forward amid progressive forces advocating for international cooperation on a legal, mutually respectful and mutually beneficial basis in the best interests of common free development that is devoid of external diktat and coercion.

<…>

In no case should we freeze and hope that things will take care of themselves and everything will be like it used to be. We must look and move forward. Our active participation in the unions without “leaders” and “followers,” or “teachers” and “disciples” need to be the focus of our efforts. These unions include #BRICS, which has expanded and got stronger in the wake of Russia’s 2024 presidency, and the #SCO with its serious potential for strengthening cooperation to promote stability in Eurasia.

The voice of other associations in the CIS, Asia, Africa and Latin America that focus on integration can now be heard louder in international affairs. These associations include our natural allies and partners. <…>

❗️ Forming a broad space of peace and development in Eurasia, which is the world’s largest, resource-rich and rapidly developing continent, should remain our key area of focus. These efforts are facilitated by the objective formation of the Greater Eurasian Partnership through expanding trade and economic ties, carrying out infrastructure projects, and harmonising integration processes, primarily within the #EAEU, the #SCO, #ASEAN and China’s Belt and Road Initiative. <…>

This year marks the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Preserving historical memory of the Great Victory, and fighting uncompromisingly against the masterminds of neo-Nazi ideology and falsifiers of history is our sacred duty before the generation of heroes who liberated Kiev and Odessa, and Berlin and Prague. <…>

👉 The fateful changes in the international balance of power have determined the urgent need for structural and personnel reform in the ministry’s system. <…> Analyse the results of the first stage of reforms. They include an additional Department for African Partnership and a reduction of one European department. Please, submit proposals for the next stage. <…>

Ensuring the continuity of generations must remain our constant priority at historical inflexion points like the one we are having now. Passing experience from senior comrades on to young employees, who are just starting to work at the Foreign Ministry, is of particular importance.

🎙 Comment by Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Kiev regime’s attack against Channel One camera crew

💬 On February 14, in the village of Cherkasskaya Konopelka, Sudzha District, Kursk Region, a Channel One film crew was subjected to a targeted attack by a Kiev regime's UAV.

As a result of the drone dropping an explosive munition, Channel One cameraman Yury Sholmov was seriously injured.

He was provided with initial medical assistance at the Kursk Regional Clinical Hospital. The question of transporting the injured media worker to Moscow is being considered.

We wish Yury a speedy recovery.

☝️ Another attack by the Ukrainian armed forces on Russian journalists has added to the list of Zelensky regime's bloody crimes against civilians, to which media personnel are equated under the 1949 Geneva Conventions and Additional Protocol I.

By targeting unarmed war correspondents, journalists, cameramen, photographers and organising a real hunt for them, the Ukrainian Nazis are trying to hide the truth about their brutal violations of international humanitarian law and atrocities against civilians by any means possible.

⚠️ We call on all responsible governments to condemn the terrorist acts of the Kiev regime and to publicly oppose the attacks of the Ukrainian armed forces against civilians, including members of the media.

We demand that the relevant international organisations, first and foremost UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Jan Braathu, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk and other supranational human rights bodies immediately react to yet another heinous crime by the Kiev regime and resolutely condemn it.

They must take exhaustive measures aimed at putting an end to the systematic terrorist methods of suppressing dissent practised by the neo-Nazi Bandera followers. Further silence of these crimes on the part of international officials will in fact mean covering them up and encouraging the Kiev regime to commit further attacks.

❗️ Those responsible for the attack on the life of a Russian journalist will be identified and will face the deserved and unavoidable punishment.
