💬 The frenzied celebration of Atlanticism and the show that official Stockholm staged on the occasion of its “historic” decision to apply for NATO membership bear all the signs of laboured artificiality. After all, there is no national consensus behind Stockholm’s decision to join NATO. Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar came down hard on that decision. The attempts to get the Green Party to support the move to join the Alliance failed.
The Swedish media conveniently did NOT publish any opinion polls in the run-up to the “historic decision,” either.
That’s democracy, baby.
No one said a word about the referendum that could be held according to every canon of liberalism (which everyone remains in the dark about so far). This is strange. After all, the referendum holds a special place in the political culture of that country.
There have been quite a few national referendums in the Kingdom’s recent history, including on matters like transitioning to right-hand traffic (the 1955 referendum) and, I kid you not, a vote on prohibition ( 1922 referendum).
Prohibition posters of that time are available online (1, 2).
No doubt, issues like Sweden’s EU membership and accession to the single euro-currency system were also decided by a national vote. As such, Sweden adhered to fairly democratic practices. Clearly, much has changed in Sweden over the past 100 years since the first referendum was held in the 20th century, and democracy is now in short supply.
Crimea, which Ann Linde considers undemocratic, held a referendum, and the people made their choice. There was a referendum in the Soviet Union. In the Russian Federation, a vote was held on constitutional amendments. However, Sweden, which decided to overhaul its 200-year-old security policy, didn’t hold any.
Why? The answer is clear.
If you take a look at the latest polls, the growth in the number of people who are willing to “march in step with Brussels and Washington” (and spend 2 percent of GDP on defence, which is NATO-approved defence spending minimum) has slowed significantly.
According to a poll conducted by Demoskop and Aftonbladet on April 19, 2022 – more recent data is not available for obvious reasons – hardly more than half of Swedes are interested in joining NATO. To put it bluntly, every second Swede understands the morass their American “friends” are dragging Stockholm into.
Speaking of “friends,” it is notable that US senators were visiting Stockholm on the day the “historic” decision was announced. Not rank-and-file congressmen, but leader of the Senate Republicans Mitch McConnell. Sweden has not yet joined the Alliance, but the Americans are already dictating to the Swedish authorities what to say to their people. And this is just a demo of what is in store for them.
More than 200 years of neutrality, which guaranteed the Kingdom’s security and prosperity, are now history.
So why wasn’t there a referendum? Just because no one has been consulting Swedish public’s opinion on anything for a long time now. The Americans call the shots for the Swedes.

⚡️ The territory of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, where a group of Ukrainian militants of the Azov Nazi group has been blocked since April 21, has been completely liberated. A total of 2,439 Azov Nazis and AFU servicemen blocked inside the plant have laid down their arms and surrendered during the operation. Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the completion of the operation and the complete liberation of the plant and Mariupol city from the Ukrainian militants.

The liberation of the Lugansk People's Republic is nearing completion.
The Russian Defence Minister also noted that in connection with Finland's and Sweden's bid to join NATO, tensions in the Western Military District's area of responsibility continue to rise, and adequate countermeasures are being taken. Sergei Shoigu spoke about equipping the Aerospace Forces and the Navy with medium- and long-range unmanned aerial vehicle systems.

🇷🇺 Russia has supported us throughout years of the war with the Ukrainian regime. And with the start of the special operation for Donbass liberation scale of assistance from Russian regions has become unprecedented.
🚆Today, the Donbass Aid Train arrived in Ilovaisk. It was formed on the initiative of the All-Russian People's Front and Russian Railways.
📦 It departed from Moscow, consisted of 68 wagons, of which 27 were intended for the LPR, and 41 for the liberated territories of the DPR. This is more than 2,400 tons of humanitarian cargo: food, personal hygiene products, medicines, flour, stationery, building materials and equipment, generators.
❗️Each wagon has the name of the region. And behind it - unindifference, support and mutual assistance of a large family Russian peoples.

💥 High-precision, long-range sea-based missiles near Malin railway station in Zhitomir Region have destroyed weapons and military equipment of the Ukrainian armed forces' 10th Mountain Assault Brigade from Ivano-Frankovsk that had been transferred to Donbass.
💥 Missile troops and artillery have hit 73 command posts, 578 areas of AFU manpower and military equipment concentration, as well as 37 artillery and mortar units at firing positions. 13 tanks and armoured infantry fighting vehicles, 5Grad multiple rocket launchers and 3 ammunition depots have been destroyed.

🔹 We have quit the Council of Europe of our own accord. From an organisation concerned with unity of the European legal space, the CE has degenerated into a tool of US interests (even though the United States is just an observer and not a member of the Council of Europe).

💥Since the beginning of the day, the enemy has fired more than 200 shells and mines from 122-mm multiple launch rocket systems BM-21 "Grad", 152 and122-mm cannon artillery, as well as 82 and 120-mm mortars.
💥The areas of 6 settlements of the Republic were under shelling. As a result of the Ukrainian aggression a civilian was killed and 8 were injured. 4 residential buildings and 4 civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged.
❗️Materials on the fact of wounding civilians and damage to infrastructure will be transferred to the DPR General Prosecutor's Office for inclusion in criminal cases initiated against the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
🔷The servicemen of the Donetsk People's Republic together with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue to liberate the settlements of our Republic from Ukrainian invaders. Since the beginning of the day, our servicemen have destroyed more than 39 Ukrainian nationalists, a firing position of 152-mm self-propelled artillery mounts 2S3 "Acacia", 2 tanks, an airborne combat vehicle and a field ammunition depot. A 152-mm towed gun-howitzer "Msta-B", 2 infantry fighting vehicles were captured.
♦️Unfortunately, there were losses among our fighters. Over the past day, in the struggle for independence, 3 defenders of the Donetsk People's Republic died in the line of military duty and 8 comrades were injured.
