๐Ÿ“ธ The iconic WWII photo โ€œVictory Banner over the Reichstagโ€ is widely known across the world as a symbol of the Soviet Victory over Nazi Germany. The photo was taken on May 2, 1945, by a Soviet photographer Evgeniy Khaldei after the last German troops defending the Reichstag had surrendered.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ What is less known, is that the Victory Banner featured in the photo was initially raised over the Reichstag on May 1 by three Soviet soldiers - Aleksei Berest, Mikhail Egorov and Meliton Kantaria - while the fierce battle for the Reichstag was still underway. On May 2, after the fighting had ceased, the red banner was relocated to the top of the building, marking the historic Victory. Shortly thereafter, the banner was taken down and transported to Moscow, where it was kept at the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the USSR for eternal preservation.

๐ŸŒŸ Today, visitors of the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation can only view one of the four official replicas of the Victory Banner. The original is stored in a special glass capsule in an underground vault of the museum to protect it from damage.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ In 2007, the Russian legislation conferred upon the Victory Banner the status of a state relic of the Russian Federation and the official symbol of the Victory of the Soviet people and its Armed Forces over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

๐ŸŽ™ MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharovaโ€™s answer to a media question about Kievโ€™s recent statements regarding the events in Bucha in the Spring of 2022

โ“ On April 24, Kievโ€™s UN mission came up with its own โ€œversionโ€ of the events in Bucha, thus replying to a note circulated by the Russian Permanent Mission to the UN at the UNSC and the UNGA. Kiev and the West are persisting in their attempts to put the blame for the gory show they had staged themselves on Russia. How would you comment on these statements?

๐Ÿ’ฌ Maria Zakharova: Russia has repeatedly proved with facts in hand that the so-called Bucha massacre is a cynical ploy.

As usual, the message circulated by the Ukrainian mission contains no evidence, just unfounded accusations and references to the โ€œfirm conclusionsโ€ by the so-called Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine and research by the OSCEโ€™s derelict Moscow Mechanism. <...>

According to the Ukrainian figures, the Russian military committed 272 crimes per day... <...> which is completely unrealistic.

In addition, they managed to provide humanitarian aid to the local population. In total, 452 tonnes of Russian humanitarian cargoes were delivered and distributed in Bucha and other localities in the Kiev Region.

The local mobile communications networks remained in operation while the city was under Russian military control. Not a single local resident reported any instances of violence. <...>

It is important to note that, following the Russian withdrawal on March 31, 2022, Bucha mayor Anatoly Fedorchuk posted a video that conspicuously did not mention โ€œextensive Ukrainian casualties.โ€ <...>

โ—๏ธ However, the most important point is that a full-scale investigation into the Bucha tragedy has yet to begin. There is still no information available about the victimsโ€™ names, places of residence, time, location and cause of death, and autopsy results. <...>

๐Ÿ‘‰ This can only mean one thing: the leaders of the Kiev regime fear an investigation as it could implicate themselves.

#OTD in 1862, the key work of Vladimir Dahl, which took more than 53 years to create, was published โ€” "The Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language".

๐Ÿ“– The approximate volume of the work of the great Russian ethnographer โ€” 200 thousand words. The importance of Dahl's dictionary for Russian culture cannot be overestimated. "National treasure", "the source of the truly popular word" are among the few epithets that describe Dahl's work.

๐Ÿค“ Vladimir Dahl was a versatile man, graduated from the medical faculty of the university, served in the active army, was a field surgeon. Already in his lifetime he became a famous writer and philosopher, a collector of folk tales and proverbs, was a friend of Alexander Pushkin, a great Russian writer and poet, knew 12 languages, made many trips around Russia, during which he collected all the colloquial words in the Russian language.

#5 ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ HOW ARE THE FOREIGNERS TREATED IN CRIMEA?

As in any other region in Russia, the foreigners are treated with kindness and cordiality in Crimea! ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

Western media still consider it necessary to distort information about Crimea and write about human right violations and the military regime in the allegedly annexed peninsula. โŒ

In fact, the situation is completely different: Crimea lives a peaceful life and is actively developing. The Crimean authorities invite foreigners to visit the peninsula so that guests can see with their eyes everything that is happening here. ๐Ÿค“

Crimea is the center of the most picturesque nature landmarks and expressive architectural monument. A whole month is not enough to get acquainted with all the iconic places of the peninsula. ๐ŸŒ„

Bright and unforgettable impressions can be obtained by visiting ancient cave cities, medieval fortresses, imperial palaces, the world-famous Nikitsky Botanical Garden, parks with exotic plants as well as modern museums. ๐Ÿ“ธ

See you in Crimea!

๐Ÿ—“ World Press Freedom Day is marked every year on May 3 to remind the international community about the importance of respecting media independence and pluralism and protecting the rights of journalists. The day was established by the UN General Assembly Resolution on December 20, 1993.

โ—๏ธ On this important day for the media worldwide, we would like to draw public attention to the dramatic situation with the freedom of expression and access to information in the countries of the collective West. Contrary to their international commitments, the so-called democratic countries continue to suppress any form of dissent. Investigative journalist Julian Assange remains incarcerated in a London prison, and there are also other prisoners of conscience.

We are still waiting for a reaction from the concerned international human rights organisations to the death of Gonzalo Lira, a Chilean-American journalist betrayed by both his native countries, in a Ukrainian prison in January 2024.

We see that the Western governments continue with their arbitrary treatment of Russian media outlets and journalists, who have felt the full effects of the Western neo-liberal mechanism of repression.

Special mention should be made of the dire situation with media freedom in the Baltic states and Moldova, whose governments, acting with the tacit approval of their Western handlers, are harassing Russian-language media under the pretext of fighting against โ€œRussian propaganda.โ€

Zelenskyโ€™s criminal regime has eliminated the last vestiges of the freedom of speech in Ukraine by banning all opposition media outlets and denying access to thousands of online resources. Their overseas mastersโ€™ connivance has led, in particular, to savage attacks on Russian journalists. One more name has recently been added to the list of Russian correspondents killed by Ukrainian thugs. Izvestia military correspondent Semyon Yeryomin was deliberately killed in the line of duty in a neo-Nazi drone attack. UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay has not condemned his cold-blooded murder or, for that matter, the murder of other Russian journalists โ€“ Darya Dugina (Platonova), Vladlen Tatarsky (Maxim Fomin), Oleg Klokov, Rostislav Zhuravlev and Boris Maksudov.

โ˜๏ธ Regrettably, World Press Freedom Day, which was intended to be a universal event, is gradually becoming just another insignificant day. This situation will only change if the world takes an honest look at the situation with the freedom of the media and the safety of journalists, a look that is not distorted by Western propaganda.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿš’ #OTD the International Firefighters' Day โ€” the day of fearless professionals who risk their lives every day to keep others safe โ€” is marked.

๐ŸงฏFirefighters play a vital role in society by responding to emergencies, putting out fires and providing assistance during natural disasters. Their work is not just a profession, it is a calling characterised by bravery and an unwavering commitment to serving others.

The establishment of this commemorative day is linked to the tragic events that took place in Australia ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ in 1998, when five firefighters were killed while fighting a forest fire. This sad incident was not the first, but it was the first that prompted the world community to establish an International Day to honour firefighting heroes.

๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™‚๏ธ However, their selfless acts of firefighters often go unnoticed, making International Firefighters' Day an important occasion to express special gratitude and admiration for their hard work and service.
