๐Ÿ“ #OTD in 1809, 215 years ago, Russian novelist, playwright, critic and publicist Nikolai Gogol was born.

A recognized classic and an author of immortal 'poem in prose' "Dead Souls", satirical play "The Inspector General" and "Petersburg Tales", he played a great role in the development of the Russian and world literature, while his influence on their work was acknowledged by Mikhail Bulgakov, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Franz Kafka and many others.

According to critics Vissarion Belinsky and Nikolay Chernyshevsky, Gogol was the first Russian-language realist writer and the founder of the โ€œNatural Schoolโ€, which was further developed by Ivan Turgenev, Alexander Herzen, Nikolay Nekrasov, Vladimir Dal and Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin.

๐Ÿ“Œ In memory of Nikolai Gogol, an annual literary award is held in St Petersburg since 2003, while the Nikitsky Boulevard in Moscow hosts Gogol's House, which houses a memorial museum and a scientific library.

The upcoming 75th anniversary of NATO on April 4 is a good occasion to recall some of the facts that betray the inherently pernicious nature of the Alliance. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ณ

๐ŸŸฃFact no. 1

NATO was created in 1949, as its first Secretary General Lord Ismay noted,
โ€œto keep the Russians out, the Americans in, and the Germans down.โ€

๐Ÿ“Œ NATO was a major factor of the Cold War bloc confrontation and after it ended ostensibly lost its raison dโ€™รชtre. Far from it! It usurped the right of global policing starting with โ€œhumanitarianโ€ bombing of Yugoslavia in the late 1990s.

The consequences of NATOโ€™s rediscovering itself are wellknown โ€” everywhere itโ€™s brought only destruction and death and resentment instead of peace and stability it declared.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡พ President Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus.

โœ‰๏ธ Despite challenging international circumstances, significant progress has been made recently in developing the multifaceted ties between Russia and Belarus, and in bolstering the institutions of the Union State.

Good results have stemmed from coordinated efforts in foreign policy, defence, and security. The effective execution of jointly agreed-upon Union programmes has facilitated the harmonisation of legislation in critical sectors between Russia and Belarus, laying the groundwork for unified macroeconomic and monetary policies, as well as the establishment of a common socioeconomic space.

At the January session of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, a new set of measures aimed at fostering integration processes was adopted. I firmly believe that the steadfast execution of these measures aligns with the core interests of both Russians and Belarusians and contributes to strengthening stability and security in the Eurasian space.

๐Ÿ“ NATO's Strategic Concept adopted at the 2022 Madrid summit calls Russia
"the most significant and direct threat to Allies' security and to peace and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area."

โ—๏ธMeanwhile, it was the โ€œEastern Flankโ€ of the Alliance that over the past 30 years had been pumped up with weapons and stuffed with its military bases.

The apogee of this process was Ukraine, which NATO made the main arena of confrontation with Russia and whose losses, inter alia, are regarded as consumables for the Alliance in achieving its geopolitical goals.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡พ Today we celebrate the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus โ€” a special holiday, which symbolizes the historical commonality of our peoplesโ€™ destiny and the centuries-old friendship between the two fraternal nations.

๐Ÿ“† The new holiday was first announced on April 2, 1996, after the signing of the Treaty on creation of the Community of Belarus and Russia, which initiated the integration of the two countries. Already a year later, it was transformed into the Union of Belarus and Russia.

๐Ÿค Today Russia and Belarus, being Member States of the Union State, maintain relations that may without exaggeration serve as a model for building equal and mutually beneficial cooperation. The level of bilateral interaction is a reference point for other integration associations in the post-Soviet space.

๐ŸŽ‰ Let this day be a symbol of the friendship, spiritual affinity and prosperity of many generations of Russians and Belarusians!
