🎙 Foreign Minister Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s comment on the Copenhagen-format meeting in Davos on Ukraine

💬 On January 14, Davos, Switzerland, will be hosting the fourth Copenhagen-format meeting on Ukraine. Its organisers – Kiev and Bern.

The Kiev regime, together with the Group of Seven members, will once again use deceit in order to persuade the countries of the Global South and East to support the would-be peaceful proposals stemming from the so-called Zelensky formula, an infamously odious framework.

The Foreign Ministry has consistently criticised the Zelensky formula and the Copenhagen-format meetings designed to promote it for their shortcomings, hypocrisy and lack of connection to reality.

1️⃣ The Zelensky formula consists of a series of ultimatums targeting Russia. <…> Ultimatums of this kind cannot serve as a foundation for launching talks.

2️⃣ Ukraine has enacted a legal ban on holding talks with the Russian leadership. As long as this ban remains in place, discussing any proposals will not yield tangible results.

3️⃣ Discussing a settlement in Ukraine without involving Russia is senseless.

4️⃣ Kiev has been pushing the ultimatums contained in the Zelensky formula as the only possible solution with no room for alternatives. In doing so, Kiev and its masters have monopolised the right to put forward peace initiatives, effectively blocking all reasonable ideas from other countries, primarily from the Global South and East.

5️⃣ Zelensky has been bombing civilian sites with cluster munitions in Belgorod, Donetsk and other Russian cities, intentionally killing civilians, all while preparing the Davos meeting to discuss the prospects of a peace settlement.

All of this demonstrates the true intentions of the leadership in Kiev, Washington, London and Brussels.

❗️ We are convinced that our partners in Asia, Africa and Latin America fully understand the reality of the situation and will not allow themselves to be drawn into openly anti-Russian initiatives.

🇷🇺 Russia is renowned for its vast and diverse landscapes, ranging from frozen tundras to lush forests. The country's extensive territories and varied climates significantly contribute to its rich biodiversity.

Additionally, there are over 12,000 regional territories of various categories. Together, these protected areas encompass about 12% of Russia's total land area.

🐯 On January 11, the Russian presidential website launched an exciting new project dedicated to Russian nature reserves and other specially protected natural areas. This project features thousands of wildlife camera trap recordings and professional photographs from 39 nature reserves (and counting).

🏅 #OnThisDay in 1945, the Red Army launched its Vistula-Oder offensive, liberating Polish territory west of the Vistula and capturing a bridgehead on the left bank of the Oder, which was later used in the advance on Berlin.

By early 1945, the Red Army in the east and the Western Allies from the Second Front had closed in on Germany for a series of final assaults on the enemy. As before, the Wehrmacht concentrated its main forces – 185 divisions, including 33 tank and mechanised divisions, as well as 21 brigades – against the Soviet fronts.

The Soviet offensive was planned for January 20. But on January 6, the Allies suffered a major setback in the Ardennes and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill asked Soviet leader Joseph Stalin for help by moving up the offensive on the Vistula front. The Soviet Supreme High Command General Headquarters responded by curtailing preparations for the Vistula-Oder offensive and setting the date for its start on January 12.

☝️ The Red Army had to break through 300-500 kilometres of multi-layered defensive positions between the Vistula and the Oder rivers. The first line of defence on the Vistula consisted of four belts 30 to 70 kilometres deep. The most formidable obstacle for the attacking forces was the sixth line of defence that ran along the 1939 German-Polish border and included the Pomerania, Meseritz, and Glogau-Breslau fortified areas.

As a result, 35 enemy divisions were routed and another 25 lost between 50 and 70% of their strength, weapons and equipment. Forces of the two Soviet fronts took prisoner 147,400 officers and men and captured 14,000 guns and mortars, as many as 1,400 tanks and assault guns, and over 1,000 aircraft.

🎖 The Vistula-Oder operation went down in history as the most rapid WWII offensive. The Soviet forces advanced 500 kilometres within 23 days (!), liberated vast territories in Poland, and emerged on roads leading directly to the capital of Nazi Germany.

🎙 Statement by Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia at UNSC briefing on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question (January 12, 2024)

💬 Russia supported Algeria's initiative to convene today's urgent meeting of the Council on the situation in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, with a focus on the threat of forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, in light of the illegality of such steps by West Jerusalem in the terms of international law.

And that is only part of the deadly "puzzle" that assembles into the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

As of now, more than 23,000 people have been killed in the enclave. That includes, by preliminary data, more than 7,500 children. Thousands of people are missing under the rubble of destroyed buildings. <...> Civilian infrastructure, including medical facilities, has been destroyed almost completely. The total blockade of Gaza has led to acute shortages of water, fuel and medical supplies. <...> Since the beginning of the escalation, some 2 million people have already been displaced. Half of them are women and children. <...>

❗️ The attack of October 7 cannot be used to legitimize Israel's use of force in the Gaza Strip. <...>

A coherent strategy of West Jerusalem is emerging. Its goal is to forcibly displace Palestinians, and its logic is simple - to make life in Gaza unbearable, even impossible, leaving the civilian population with the unimaginable choice – either leave your homeland or get killed. <...>

☝️ Under the current circumstances, Russia's principled approaches remain unchanged:

• an immediate ceasefire,
• unimpeded & safe humanitarian access,
• release of hostages,
• the restoration of the political horizon on the basis of the two-state solution for the Middle East settlement.

⚠️ Without an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the Middle East risks plunging into a full-scale war with the most serious global implications.
