🇺🇳 The UN Charter entered into force 7️⃣8️⃣ years ago, having been signed at the concluding session of the UN Conference on International Organisation in San Francisco on June 26, 1945. This is the official date of the founding of the UN.

💬 Sergey Lavrov: It is critical to endeavor to turn the spirit of multipolarity enshrined in the UN Charter into reality. An increasing number of countries from the global majority seek to strengthen their sovereignty and uphold their national interests, traditions, culture, and way of life.

🇷🇺 Russia consistently calls for strengthening the UN’s central and coordinating role in global affairs.

💬 Sergey Lavrov: It is time to look at fairer methods of making up the UN Secretariat. The criteria that have been in place for many years do not reflect the actual influence of states in global affairs and artificially ensure the excessive dominance of citizens of NATO and EU countries.

👉 Article Adherence to the UN Charter principles in their entirety and interconnection underwrite international peace and stability by Sergey Lavrov (October 10, 2023)

📹 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s address to participants in the No Statute of Limitations international forum (October 24, 2023)

▫️ Seventy-seven years ago, on October 1, 1946, the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg delivered a historic verdict, condemning the main Nazi war criminals and legally securing the defeat of the Hitler regime.

▫️ The Nuremberg Trials opened a new page in the development of international law. The foundation of the modern system of international criminal justice was laid then.

▫️ It is generally recognised that the Nazi atrocities have no statute of limitations. Our country continues ambitious work to investigate newly discovered facts of criminal acts committed by the Nazi invaders.

▫️ The fact that a number of European countries, primarily Ukraine and the Baltic states, are systematically destroying historical memory, causes particular concern. It has gone so far that honours are now bestowed without hesitation to former Nazis.

▫️ I would like to remind representatives of the criminal Kiev regime and its Western patrons that, according to the materials of the Nuremberg Trials, almost 200,000 civilians were tortured to death, shot and poisoned in Kiev alone. Many of them were killed by the SS.

▫️ In 1942, the Nazi criminal Reichskommissar Erich Koch wrote in the address to the heads of the German media that Ukraine was nothing but an object of exploitation, that it should pay the expenses of the war, and its population, being second-rate people, should be utilised for the tasks of the war, even if they have to be caught with a lasso.

▫️ The “historical West” led by the US is de facto sharing a similar sentiment and is ready to contain Russia to the last Ukrainian.

▫️ Against this backdrop, the fight against falsifying the results of the Second World War and spreading a misanthropic ideology are among the key priorities of Russian diplomacy.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings to organisers and guests of an official United Nations Day reception (Moscow, October 24, 2023)

💬 Today, when the world is experiencing genuine tectonic shifts linked with the creation of a multipolar system, it is hard to overestimate the significance of the UN in promoting equitable interstate cooperation and searching for concerted answers to numerous challenges and threats.

Owing to its universal legitimacy, the UN boasts unique capabilities for facilitating multilateral interaction in multiple spheres, including efforts to maintain international peace and security, protecting human rights and ensuring sustainable socio-economic development.

Consequently, genuine multilateralism is inseparably linked with the UN and the principles of the UN Charter. No organisations established on a limited scale outside the UN framework can claim the right to express the opinion of the entire international community.

As a UN co-founding state and as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Russia comprehends its special responsibility for the future destiny of this highly important international body. We will closely coordinate our actions with our supporters, and we will continue to enhance the effectiveness of the UN, including within the framework of the Group of Friends in Defence of the Charter of the United Nations.

🇷🇺🇺🇳 We are certainly ready to continue constructive dialogue with UN representatives in Russia.

🎙 From the statements by Andrey Belousov, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the Russian Federationin the First Committee of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly (New York, 25 October 2023)

At the Thematic Debate on «
Regional Disarmament and Security»:

💬 Given the current lack of trust as well as the obviously hostile attitude on the part of Washington and the collective Brussels, it is unreasonable and naive to expect any progress towards revising the state of conventional arms control in Europe (CACE). Any dialogue on a new CACE version will only be possible if the West abandons its hostile anti-Russian policy. Shaping such a regime in future will undoubtedly require fundamentally new approaches while taking into account Russia's national interests as an imperative.

At the Thematic Debate on «Disarmament Machinery»:

💬 The leading role in addressing arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation issues, as well as issues of international peace and global security, should be played by the United Nations, as was intended when the Organization was established. The strengthening of existing arms control regimes and the development of new ones should be carried out either through active conventional mechanisms or through the UN disarmament machinery. Only such a principle can ensure genuine multilateralism in disarmament and take into account the security interests of the stakeholders.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s opening remarks at a meeting with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko (Minsk, October 26, 2023)

💬 Thank you very much for the invitation and the idea of holding the High-level International Conference Eurasian Security: Reality and Prospects in a Transforming World.

It is especially important now when Europe, as dictated by the Americans, decided to divide our united, large and rich in mineral resources continent, which was given to us by God and history, into two camps.

👉 This happened before, during the Soviet era and the Cold War, but even then our economic ties were not severed. Today, Europe is suffering direct losses because of Washington’s pressure.

Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergey Aleinik mentioned our readiness to cooperate with everyone but only as equal and honest partners. Foreign Minister Szijjarto said the same.

I pointed out that we hold the door to these processes open to everyone. But if Europe prefers to shut itself off, we will have to move from the division of labour to independent and sovereign production of everything we need for development and security.

On October 23, 2023, The Washington Post carried a detailed story about the involvement of Ukrainian security services in the assassination of Darya Dugina, the explosions of the Crimean Bridge and other crimes.

According to the paper, since 2015, the CIA spent tens of millions of dollars on training Ukrainian security services and turning them into America’s allies in the fight against Russia.

It also mentions the UK’s MI-6 in the same context. Those Anglo-Saxon intelligence services reportedly established the No 5 and No 6 divisions at the Security Service of Ukraine. Both divisions were directly subordinated to them and were expected to focus on active measures (acts of sabotage) against Russia.

According to the publication, the CIA was behind Ukrainian security services’ operations all the time. The Ukrainian side coordinated all high-profile operations with the CIA which provided the perpetrators with all the essentials.

#MiddleEast

We are deeply concerned about the reported geographical expansion of fighting in the West Bank. The potential for conflict is growing along the Blue Line on the Lebanese-Israeli border. We are watching with concern as Israel steps up air strikes on Syrian territory. We are extremely concerned about the military manoeuvres by non-regional parties in the Eastern Mediterranean. These factors, along with the increasing bellicose rhetoric from various sides, heighten the risks of the conflict escalating into a region-wide one.

In this regard, we reiterate the need for an early ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors for evacuation and delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. We also reiterate our call for the release of the hostages.
