The exhibition provided insight into the key life milestones of Nicholas Roerich and his son, Svetoslav Roerich, in relation to India. It also highlighted the profound impact of India's spiritual and artistic traditions, as well as its breathtaking natural beauty, on the artistic endeavors of these two distinguished Russian artists. Special attention is paid to the friendship of this outstanding family not only with representatives of local artistic community, notably with the writer, Nobel Prize laureate Rabindranath Tagore, but also political leaders and freedom fighters of India – Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. In the context of the attempts of a number of Western countries to politicize the cultural sphere of multilateral cooperation, particular emphasis is placed on the efforts of Nicholas Roerich to develop the concept of “Peace through Culture”, preserve the world cultural heritage and conclude the first ever international treaty aimed at protecting monuments, known as the “Roerich Pact”.

The recognition that representatives of the Roerich family still enjoy in India is the best proof of the widespread demand for Russian art abroad, despite the desire of the collective West to “cancel” it. The Russian-Indian exhibition highlights the relations of exceptional spiritual affinity that have historically developed between the two peoples as well as our common approaches to the importance of promoting civilizational and cultural diversity and polycentric world order.

💬 Sergey Lavrov: The G20 Summit was an unqualified success. The G20 is undergoing an internal reform. One aspect of this reform is that the member countries representing the Global South have become more proactiv. They have been clear and persistent in ensuring that their interests are included in the agreements negotiated by the G20.

🇮🇳 🇷🇺 We Should Take Example from India: Putin

🎙 FM Sergey Lavrov’s answer to a question from Izvestia on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (Vladivostok, September 12, 2023)

Question: What signs of Russia’s pivot to the East do you see now ahead of the plenary meeting? What economic prospects are opening before our country?

💬 This phrase – “pivot to the East” – is misleading and obscures the meaning of current developments.

We have never turned away from the East. For nearly 20 years after Vladimir Putin became President of Russia, our foreign, economic & investment policies have always taken into account the immense advantages available in the east of our country & on the Eurasian continent.

These advantages <...> were not taken into consideration or put to use in the late 1990s after the disintegration of the Soviet Union. Objectively, the Western dimension prevailed at that time.

The Russian Far East & Northern Russia, this Eastern flagship of our continent, came to attract increased attention long before the current developments. Moreover, this was not only in a token way, because Russia adopted concrete investment programmes, created new transport & logistical routes, developed ports, built new ships & oil tankers, grain carriers & freighters, and much else.

☝️ But the West decided to “strike an attitude” & “punish” Russia with sanctions for our reluctance and inability to tolerate its plans to use Ukraine to undermine our security & eradicate all things Russian on Ukrainian territory, which was created & licked into shape by Russian tsars, engineers & military leaders.

When the West introduced sanctions against us as a punishment for the failure of its plan, what we did in terms of economic development & foreign economic ties in the East started exceeding the Western dimension to a great extent. The EU, NATO, & other residents of Europe that have joined the sanctions are depriving themselves of the advantages they used to enjoy in the past.

👉 This is a historic & objective trend & it will only grow stronger.

⚡️ Russia's position at the seventy-eighth session of the UN General Assembly:

Rights of the child

👶 We advocate strengthening international cooperation in the promotion and protection of the rights of the child, taking into account the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the outcome document of the 27th special session of the UNGA entitled "A World Fit for Children", which proclaimed, in particular, the need for a family environment for the full and harmonious development of a child's personality.

❗️ We note the importance of the right of parents and/or legal guardians to provide, in a manner consistent with the evolving capacities of the child, appropriate direction and guidance in the exercise by the child of his/her rights.

We pay close attention to the problem of children in armed conflict, including within the framework of the UNSC.

We strongly condemn the UN Secretary-General's biased decision to include the Russian Armed Forces in the list of parties responsible for violations against children in Ukraine in his relevant annual report for 2022.

We believe that the list of violators should include the Ukrainian armed forces, which have committed numerous crimes against minors.

📃 We support the mandate of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict and look forward to further cooperation with her. We encourage the Special Representative to use only verified facts when it comes to the situation of children in Ukraine, avoiding politicization of the issue.

⚡️ Russia's position at the seventy-eighth session of the UN General Assembly:

Development of important multilateral arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation arrangements

📃 Russia has initiated the development of important multilateral arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation arrangements, including on the prevention of an arms race in outer space (PAROS) and on the suppression of acts of chemical and biological terrorism.

We believe that a constructive dialogue on these issues will provide an opportunity to engage in substantive work (including negotiations) at the UN. In promoting these initiatives, we rigorously adhere to the principles of equality and consensus ensuring a balance of interests.

At the 78th session of the General Assembly, we will traditionally submit to the First Committee draft resolutions concerning no first placement of weapons in outer space (NFP), transparency and confidence-building measures in space activities, and further practical steps on PAROS.

Globalization of the NFP initiative is a significant but only interim step towards the conclusion of an international treaty on the prevention of the placement of weapons in outer space on the basis of the Chinese-Russian draft treaty on prevention of the placement of weapons in outer space and of the threat or use of force against outer space objects.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings to organisers and participants in the International Anti-Fascist Forum-2023

💬 Symbolically, the motto of your meeting is Remembering the Past and Thinking about the Future. This year, we celebrate the milestone anniversaries of several key events in the Great Patriotic War, including the rout of German forces in the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk and the lifting of the siege of Leningrad. These momentous events were a prelude to the liberation of the peoples of the former USSR and Europe from the “plague of brown shirts.”

Regrettably, today’s world has again run into the consequences of unlearned past lessons:

• Certain states have glorified Nazi collaborators for decades and actually legalised cultural and language segregation.

• A mean war is being waged against Soviet memorial heritage, with the graves of liberator soldiers being desecrated.

• Hatred towards everything related to Russia is encouraged. This has culminated in a hybrid war unleashed by the collective West against Russia in the context of the special military operation aimed at protecting the people of Donbass from the Ukrainian neo-Nazis.

👉 Under these conditions, consolidation of all sober-minded forces is needed as never before to counteract the rewriting of history and the spread of the ideology of intolerance.

I am confident that your forum will make a noticeable contribution to this work.

🎙 President Vladimir Putin’s address at the Plenary Session of the 8th Eastern Economic Forum (September 12, 2023)

💬 In these conditions the world sees the expanding space for actual business cooperation between states that do not yield to external pressure but pursue their own national interests. We are witnessing a new emerging model of relationships and integration – and not by Western patterns, for the elite, for the chosen ‘golden billion,’ but for the entire humanity.

🤝 I expect our trade with the APR countries and economic relations in general to further expand, because Russia, our Far East, is open to strengthening trade and cooperation ties, and the potential of such cooperation simply cannot be overestimated.

We have come up with special tax, administrative and customs preferences in the Far East in order to promote the development of industrial sites and high-tech production facilities and to create new jobs, and we have taken on the construction of infrastructure and bringing utilities to industrial sites.

🚢 Transport projects are important as a means of support for business initiatives and in general for the economy of the Arctic and the Far East and for local residents there. It is necessary to expand the existing logistics routes and open new corridors for cargo operations.

Development of the Northern Sea Route has special priority among these projects. Thirty-four million tonnes of cargo were shipped using the route last year. In the next few years, the cargo traffic on this global transport corridor will only grow

Thanks to the initiative of private investors, we are building the Pacific Railway and a new port on the Sea of Okhotsk, which will allow us to utilise the resources of Yakutia and the northern regions in the Khabarovsk Territory, and to secure direct access to Asia-Pacific markets.

❗️ The Far East is Russia’s strategic priority for the entire 21st century, and we will stick to this.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s answers to questions from Vesti news programme "on the sidelines" of the Eastern Economic Forum (Vladivostok, September 12, 2023)

Question: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made quite a splash when he said that Ukraine was ready to hold talks with Russia. If they do get underway, the United States would follow. What do you think about this?

💬 Sergey Lavrov: In 2022, Vladimir Zelensky signed an executive order prohibiting any talks with the Russian Government or Vladimir Putin. The whole world knows this. If those directing the actions of this regime decided that the Ukrainians must be ready to enter into talks, the first step would probably be to recommend or order that they rescind the order or decree prohibiting these talks.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin has said many times that Russia does not reject talks. Those trying to avoid talks must know that the longer they drag their feet on this matter, the harder it will be for us to find common ground.

Question: Some claimed that the goal for his trip to Kiev was to convince Kiev to enter talks.

💬 Sergey Lavrov: I would rather not try to make any guesses on this matter. So far, the Ukrainian regime has been berating everyone, including the Americans, the Europeans, and all other countries, asking for more money, assistance, weapons and ammunition.

Representatives of the Ukrainian regime can be heard making statements to this effect every day. Dmitry Kuleba, the so-called colleague of mine, has recently met with Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in Kiev and complained on camera that the Germans refuse to supply long-range missile systems. He ended his diatribe by saying that they would end up delivering these weapons anyway.

This is the kind of client Ukraine is. Those who created this regime must know how to deal with it.
