📆 #OTD, on September 16, 1931, 9️⃣5️⃣ years ago, the State Academic Central Puppet Theatre (SACPT) was founded in Moscow. It was headed by Sergey Obraztsov — an outstanding director and actor, thanks to whom puppet theatre evolved from a fairground entertainment into an independent form of high art.

Over nearly a century of its history, the theatre has come a long way — from the first touring performances in courtyards and schools to the famous building on Sadovaya-Samotechnaya Street in Moscow. During these years, more than 100 plays have been created here, many entered the golden fund of world puppetry.

Before the play and during the intermission, guests can visit the museum of dolls from around the world, which is located in the theater lobby. First exhibits became the dolls and props of Ivan Zaitsev, the last wandering puppeteer of Russia. The theater is decorated with a unique clock - at noon, you can see owls, goat kids, and cats peeking out of the small windows to music.

🎭 Today, SACPT remains the largest puppet theatre in the world.
