The Embassy has noted that in yet another article by the ABC, written in the spirit of spy mania and suspicion, the former Russian Ambassador to Australia Grigory Logvinov was presented on a photograph as the former Russian intelligence officer and double agent Sergei Skripal.
Although the ABC quickly corrected this “inaccuracy”, the situation reflects a predominant pattern of covering Russia that can be seen in the Australian mainstream media, including a lack of historical background, half-truths, holding back or distorting facts. All this to fit the false narrative of “big bad Russia” and Russians presumed guilty of every world problem. Any attempts to present an alternative point of view are usually condemned as “Russian propaganda” or “disinformation”.
The aforementioned ABC article was triggered by the recent lecture by the ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess delivered at the Lowy Institute, which contains pretty much the same narrative. We did not expect anything different and are not going to comment today on its “almost certain” style and non-factual hostile statements relating to Russia.
There is, however, one concern of a general nature that we share with Mr Burgess:
The necessity to maintain this ability is a very Russian position.

The necessity to maintain this ability is a very Russian position.

The Kiev neo-Nazi regime persists in its attacks on civilian infrastructure, terrorising the civilian population of Russia.
Over the past week, Ukrainian artillery strikes and drone attacks have injured 113 Russian civilians, with 19 being killed — including one child — and 94 wounded, among them 10 children.
On October 25-26, the AFU executed multiple deliberate attacks using American HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems and GMLRS rockets, damaging structures and the floodgates of the Belgorod Reservoir dam.
Russian courts continue to sentence Ukrainian neo-Nazis.
Lithuanian mercenary Povilas Adomas Limontas, who participated in the fighting on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the DPR and LPR, was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison in absentia. He is on the international wanted list.
Criminal cases have been sent to court against Nieto Kevin Javier Ramirez, Eric Victor Hall and TakaoTainaka, “legionnaires” from Colombia, Sweden and Japan who fought in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. All of them are on the international wanted list.
#Moldova #NeoNazism #FalsificationOfHistory
We have taken note of alarming trends in Moldova, where the authorities are trying to rewrite history, glorifying Nazi criminals and their accomplices, and downplaying the heroism of the Red Army soldiers who died for the republic’s liberation from the fascist Romanian invaders. They are shamelessly vandalising the monuments to Soviet soldiers and celebrating the Romanian accomplices of Nazi Germany.
It is obvious that the Chisinau authorities’ attempts to rewrite history are yet another proof of not simply disrespectful but barbaric attitude to the history and culture of the Republic of Moldova, and to the victims of fascist Romanian invaders and their descendants.

The Russophobic elements in the UK continue to pursue the same malign goals against Russia, using the same inhuman methods — supplying explosives and weapons, sponsoring assassinations and terrorist attacks, and intimidating civilians.
London’s influence toolkit for dealing with those who oppose its neocolonial thinking and practices remains as ready as ever.
#NationalUnityDay2025
November 4 has marked Russia’s #NationalUnityDay. This holiday commemorates liberation of Moscow from Polish invaders by the people’s militia in 1612. It carries profound historical and cultural meaning and reminds us of the value of unity, the importance of defending Motherland, and the preservation of Russia’s traditional spiritual and moral values.
Throughout Russia’s thousand-year history, unity has always been the source of our country's greatest victories and the cornerstone of the Russian state’s achievements.
This holiday carries special significance for the Special military operation participants who perform feats in the name and glory of our Motherland on a daily basis.

🎙 Address by President of Russia Vladimir Putin at the awards ceremony for the developers of the Burevestnik cruise missile and the Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicle (November 4, 2025, Moscow)
Key points:
• Russia now fields Burevestnik nuclear-powered cruise missiles of effectively unlimited range and the Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicle with a nuclear power unit. They're manufactured using only domestic components and materials.
• Burevestnik has surpassed all existing missile systems in the world in range. It delivers high-precision strikes at the predetermined time.
• A NATO reconnaissance vessel was present in the area during the Burevestnik tests on October 21 – we did not interfere. Let them observe.
• Burevestnik's unique ultra-compact reactors start up in seconds, whereas conventional reactors require hours or even days.
• New weapon types based on these power units are already under development. Work on the next generation of nuclear-powered cruise missiles has begun – speeds will exceed sound by more than three times and will become hypersonic in the future.
• Russian specialists created a treasury of new materials, technologies, unmanned, software and digital solutions, and component base elements – enabling breakthroughs in defence and many civilian sectors through priority national projects. The new technologies have applications in small nuclear energy, power units for the Arctic, deep- and near-space exploration, energy supply for a heavy-cargo space transport vehicle under development, and for a prospective lunar station.
👉 Russia threatens no one. Like all nuclear powers, it develops its nuclear and strategic potential – these are long-announced programmes.
• All plans are being fulfilled: development and deployment of Avangard; creation, deployment and start of serial production of Oreshnik, as well as introduction of modern countermeasures on ICBMs and SLBMs to overcome missile-defence systems.
• In 2025 – experimental combat duty for systems with the heavy intercontinental missile Sarmat. In 2026 – full combat duty.

🎙 Excerpt from Russian President Vladimir Putin's statement during a meeting with permanent members of the Security Council at the Kremlin (Moscow, November 5, 2025)
💬 Vladimir Putin: Russia has always strictly adhered to its obligations under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, and we do not plan to abandon these obligations.
At the same time, indeed, in my 2023 Address to the Federal Assembly, I said that if the United States or any other state party to the Treaty was to conduct such tests, Russia would be under obligation to take reciprocal measures.
❗️ In this regard, I instruct the Foreign Ministry, the Defence Ministry, the special services, and the corresponding civilian agencies to do everything possible to gather additional information on this matter, have it analysed by the Security Council, and submit coordinated proposals on the possible first steps focusing on preparations for nuclear weapons tests.

⚡️ Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation:
🇷🇺 The Press Bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) reports that, according to information received by the SVR, European NATO officials are urging the Kiev regime to find ways to urgently reverse the course of the Ukrainian conflict that is unfavourable to the West and to change its perception among Western publics. As the most effective means of achieving this goal, they propose carrying out a large-scale act of sabotage causing casualties among Ukrainians and citizens of EU states similar to the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 tragedy of 2014.
In this connection, the option of organizing a sabotage at the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant – with a meltdown of the reactor cores – is being considered. The influential British think-tank Chatham House has already modelled the consequences of such an accident.
Data from specially conducted computer simulations showed that, taking into account prevailing wind patterns and the movement of air masses, radioactive particles would affect residents of areas under Kiev’s control and citizens of EU countries near Ukraine’s western border. The think-tank assessed the most difficult part of implementing such a plot to be how to pin responsibility for the catastrophe on Russia.
Accordingly, Chatham House intends to prepare its argumentation in advance for “any eventuality”. It plans to ensure media coverage is arranged in such a way that Western public opinion will “unambiguously side with Kiev” when it comes to assigning blame for what has happened.
We must once again note that even on matters of nuclear safety that are of vital public concern, the totalitarian-liberal elites act according to long-established inhumane patterns.
The “collective West” is again prepared to deceive and even to kill Ukrainians and citizens of Western countries in order to assign responsibility to Russia for the crimes of the Kiev regime and to justify its Russophobic policy and efforts to inflame the war.

✉️ Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings to the organisers, participants and guests of the XIX Russia Abroad International Film Festival
✍️ I extend hearty greetings to organisers, participants, and guests of the XIX Russia Abroad International Film Festival.
It is hard to overestimate the cinema art’s ability to erase borders and unite representatives of different nations. In this regard, your film festival has been serving for years the noble goal of promoting Russia’s rich culture, preserving the national historical memory and bringing together the multi-ethnic and multi-religious Russian world.
It is gratifying that this year’s festival programme is both packed and broad-ranging, as always. The viewers are offered films on Russia’s XX century history, the heritage of the Russians living abroad as well as our outstanding compatriots who brought glory to the Motherland in various fields. Some films about the Great Patriotic War and the special military operation deserve special attention.
I strongly believe that the festival will be a remarkable event in the capital’s cultural life and will offer a comprehensive review of the pages of the past.
🤝 I wish new successes to the organisers and participants of the festival, and unforgettable experience and all the best to the guests.

#RussiaUS #NewSTART
❓ Question: President of Russia Vladimir Putin announced that the Russian Federation is prepared to continue adhering to the restrictions established by New START for one additional year, starting February 5, 2026. Has there been any response from the United States? Did Moscow propose a meeting with Washington to discuss the post-New START period? If so, at what level?
💬 Sergey Lavrov: The constructive initiative put forward by President Vladimir Putin in the post-New START context speaks for itself. It contains no hidden agenda and is perfectly clear for understanding. Its practical implementation would not require any special additional efforts. <...>
The only thing required is reciprocity from the United States: we will voluntarily adhere to the restrictions only if, and precisely for as long as, the other side does the same. <...>
So far, there has been no substantive response from Washington. We have been informed through diplomatic channels that “the issue is under consideration.”
We have no intention of keeping persuading anyone. We believe that our step serves the interests of both parties and the entire international community. 👉 We are ready for any development of events, while hoping for a positive outcome.
#Ukraine #RussiaUS
❓ Question: What is currently the main stumbling block in the negotiations with the United States on a settlement around Ukraine? Where is Russia ready to make concessions and where is it not?
💬 Sergey Lavrov: <...> We are currently awaiting confirmation from the United States that the Anchorage agreements remain in effect.
I would emphasise that, despite their essentially compromise nature, we have not abandoned – and do not intend to abandon – the points that are fundamental for us.
❗️ No one disputes the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation or the choice made by the residents of Crimea, Donbass, and Novorossiya, who made their historic decision to reunite with their homeland through the referendums in 2014 and 2022. We likewise do not forget the need to eliminate the root causes of the conflict.
#EUthieves
❓ Question: What will be Russia’s response if the frozen assets of the Russian Federation are directed to support Kiev?
💬 Sergey Lavrov: <...> Such actions amount to outright deception and theft. It seems that the long-dormant instincts of colonialists and pirates have reawakened among Europeans. No matter how the scheme for seizing Russian funds is presented, there is no lawful way to carry it out.
The confiscation of our gold and foreign currency reserves will not save the Europe’s protégés in Kiev <...>
Russia will respond to any predatory actions appropriately, in accordance with the principle of reciprocity, our national interests, and the need to compensate for the damage caused to us. We hope that Brussels and other Western capitals will still come to their senses and abandon this ill-advised venture.
#RussiaUS
❓ Question: When and where could a meeting between the Russian and American delegations on mutual “irritants” take place? What about your meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio? When and where might it be held?
💬 Sergey Lavrov: There are indeed many irritants in Russia-US relations, most of them inherited from the previous US administration. It will take considerable time to clear up this mess. <...>
From our perspective, it is important that this dialogue should not be limited solely to embassy-related issues. We consider it essential to address broader questions, including the restoration of direct flights and the return of Russian diplomatic property. <...>
Secretary of State Marco Rubio and I share an understanding that maintaining regular communication is essential, both for discussing the Ukrainian issue and for advancing the broader bilateral agenda. We remain in contact by phone and are prepared to hold in-person meetings.
