☀️On 21 February, Maslenitsa was celebrated at the Castle of Good Hope, becoming the largest Maslenitsa festival held in the Western Cape in recent years.
The historic walls of the Castle provided a vibrant and symbolic setting for a joyful farewell to winter, bringing together compatriots, local residents and friends of Russia. The event was organised by the Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots' Organizations of the Western Cape with the support of the Consulate General of Russia in Cape Town.

🎶 A festive concert programme became one of the highlights of the day. Talented singers performed beloved songs, filling the courtyard with warmth and festive spirit, while children delighted guests with lively dance performances in colourful traditional costumes.
Special attention was given to the youngest participants. A dedicated children’s zone offered creative workshops where children could paint traditional wooden spoons and matryoshka dolls, discovering elements of Russian folk art in an engaging and interactive way. The space was filled with colour, imagination and laughter.
🥞 Freshly prepared blini with a variety of sweet and savoury fillings, as well as delicious pirozhki, were enjoyed throughout the day. The programme also included lively sports activities that added energy and excitement to the celebration. Guests enthusiastically took part in traditional games such as tug-of-war, strength competitions to determine who was the strongest, and sack races.
The celebration clearly showed that distance from homeland is no obstacle to preserving traditions. In Cape Town Maslenitsa became a celebration of renewal, friendship and cultural dialogue, bringing people together in a spirit of warmth and mutual understanding.

Even without northern snow under the bright African sun the spirit of Maslenitsa remained unchanged. The absence of winter frost did not diminish the festive atmosphere; on the contrary, it once again demonstrated that the essence of the holiday lies not in the weather, but in unity, hospitality and shared cultural memory.

This northernmost Russian Antarctic station, located King George Island, was built during the 13th Soviet Antarctic Expedition in 1968 under Alexei Treshnikov leadership. For the first winter, 12 polar explorers remained at the station, headed by Arnold Budretsky.
⚛️ Today, the station's conducts extensive year-round, multi-disciplinary research in meteorology and oceanology. During the summer season, studies focus on glaciology, geomorphology, paleogeography, hydrobiology, limnology, geobotany, zoology, ornithology, geodesy and cartography, microbiology, soil science, permafrost science and ecology, with satellite sea ice data tracking in place since 1980.

В Южно-Африканской Республике фамилия супруга после регистрации брака действительно присваивается новоиспечённой жене автоматически. И логично предположить, что раз вы теперь Mrs. X, то во всех странах мира обращаться к вам будут именно Mrs. X.
❗Но по российскому законодательству всё работает иначе — фамилия не меняется автоматически❗
Ключевой момент — формулировка в свидетельстве о браке. Если в нём ПРЯМО указано, что после регистрации брака гражданке присвоена новая фамилия, — тогда да, пришло время попрощаться с девичьей.
И в этом случае необходимо:
— заменить внутренний паспорт гражданина РФ (в течение 90 дней с момента изменения ФИО);
— заменить заграничный паспорт (на это даётся 6 месяцев).
Документы, к сожалению, сами себя не обновляют ✨
Даже если в ЮАР вы уже давно живёте с фамилией супруга, в российских реалиях ваш юридический двойник остаётся со старой фамилией.
Хорошая новость: ситуацию можно исправить. Вы по-прежнему можете официально сменить фамилию по российскому законодательству — подав заявление о перемене имени. И тогда станете частью династии супруга не только по духу, но и по закону 💍

Россиянин Игорь Вицина доехал на ИЖе из Санкт-Петербурга до Кейптауна — 37 тысяч километров приключений
Одним из особых гостей Масленицы, которая прошла в Замке Доброй Надежды 21-го февраля, стал россиянин Игорь Вицина, совершивший необычное автопутешествие — он проехал на своем автомобиле ИЖ 2003 года выпуска из Санкт-Петербурга до Кейптауна, преодолев около 37 тысяч километров.
Идея родилась спонтанно. Летом Игорь отдыхал у Финского залива, читал произведения Джека Лондона и решил, что пора разнообразить жизнь настоящим приключением. Так появилась цель — доехать до мыса Доброй Надежды, по пути увидев арабский мир и Африку.
Почему именно ИЖ? Все просто: автомобиль был куплен в 2019 году «для веселья» и использовался по назначению. К тому же, по словам путешественника, было принципиально интересно проверить, на что способен российский автопром.
«Многие предполагали, что машина доедет максимум до границы с Грузией. Я ставил на Иран. Честно говоря, не думал, что она доберется до финальной точки», — признается Игорь.
Автомобиль — один из последних годов выпуска, 2003 года, и, как показало путешествие, оказался куда выносливее ожиданий. За час Игорь проложил маршрут в Google Maps, изучил визовые требования и правила пересечения границ для автомобиля — и отправился в путь. Однако по ходу поездки маршрут неоднократно менялся.
Изначально путешественник планировал проехать через Египет и Судан, но граница оказалась закрыта из-за гражданской войны. В итоге маршрут выглядел так:
Грузия — Армения — Иран — Ирак — Иордания — Израиль — Палестина — Саудовская Аравия — ОАЭ — Оман — (отправка автомобиля морским контейнером) — Кения — Танзания — Замбия — Зимбабве — Ботсвана — ЮАР.
Финальной точкой стал мыс Доброй Надежды в ЮАР.
Больше всего Игоря впечатлила именно ЮАР: отличные дороги, развитая инфраструктура, живописная природа, красота капской архитектуры, великолепное вино, мясо и сыры. Путешественник также попробовал серфинг и хайкинг, а количество раритетных автомобилей на дорогах его по-настоящему поразило.
По словам Игоря, по-настоящему страшно не было. Главное, говорит он, понимать местные правила поведения и сохранять здравый смысл.
Самыми сложными оказались бюрократические вопросы. Получить визы в Ливию, Йемен и Судан так и не удалось, несмотря на многочисленные попытки.
В Израиле саперы рано утром вскрыли и обыскали автомобиль, изъяв документы и оставив записку на иврите без указания адреса, где их можно забрать. Поиск собственного паспорта стал отдельным квестом.
Технически наиболее тяжелым моментом оказался ремонт двигателя в Дубае: Игорю пришлось самостоятельно перебирать мотор и организовывать доставку запчастей из России.
В каждой стране реакция была разной: в Иране подходили познакомиться, в арабских странах удивлялись, дарили воду, приглашали в гости и предлагали помощь. В Африке эмоции били через край: кто-то вскрикивал от удивления, кто-то подпрыгивал, а некоторые буквально теряли дар речи при виде российского ИЖа.
Самым странным оказался вопрос ребенка в Южной Африке: «Сколько раз ты заправлялся?»
Точного количества заправок Игорь, возможно, и не подсчитал, но одно ясно точно — российский автомобиль сумел доехать из Санкт-Петербурга до южной оконечности Африки, доказав, что настоящее приключение начинается с простой идеи: «Хочется мир посмотреть».
