For many years, Mikhail Galukhin has been successfully working with South African athletes, nurturing a new generation of fencers. Under his guidance, young sportsmen acquire not only technical skills but also essential values such as discipline and commitment to fair play.

📜 В Кейптауне открылась архивно-документальная выставка «Солидарность в действии: признание роли Советского Союза и Кубы в поддержке борьбы против апартеида»

Архивно-документальная выставка «Солидарность в действии: признание роли Советского Союза и Кубы в поддержке борьбы против апартеида» открылась в Кейптауне. Экспозиция организована Российским государственным гуманитарным университетом (РГГУ) при поддержке Музея Роббен-Айленд.

Выставка будет работать в течение шести месяцев в галерее Музея Роббен-Айленд на набережной Виктории и Альфреда — одной из самых популярных и посещаемых частей города.

В церемонии приняли участие ветераны АНК, российские учёные, представители Генерального консульства РФ в Кейптауне, африканские дипломаты и члены «Общества дружбы Кубы».

Генеральный консул Российской Федерации в Кейптауне Р. Ю. Голубовский отметил:

«В современном мире, когда объём и разнообразие информационных потоков постоянно возрастают, особенно важно обеспечить общественности доступ к достоверным историческим сведениям. Совместная работа Российского государственного гуманитарного университета и музея Роббен-Айленд в рамках этой выставки направлена на сохранение объективного взгляда на события прошлого и предотвращение их искажения. Размещение экспозиции в одном из наиболее значимых и посещаемых музеев Южной Африки создаёт возможность донести историческую правду до широкой аудитории — от представителей академических кругов до студентов и туристов. Это станет значимым вкладом в сохранение памяти о нашем общем наследии».

Профессор В. И. Заботкина, и. о. проректора по международной работе РГГУ, и директор Центра африканистики РГГУ Александр Зотин подчеркнули, что выставка является уникальным исследовательским проектом, направленным на сохранение исторической памяти о роли СССР и Кубы в поддержке народов Юга Африки в их борьбе против колониализма и апартеида.

Команда проекта, в состав которой вошли учёные Института Африки РАН, представила уникальные материалы, фотографии и свидетельства из личных архивов ветеранов борьбы с апартеидом — как российских, так и южноафриканских.

По словам эксперта Центра африканистики РГГУ и заведующей Центром изучения африканской стратегии БРИКС Института Африки РАН Дарьи Зеленовой:

«Многие материалы имеют уникальную историческую ценность. Например, впервые рассказано о гуманитарной помощи, которая была собрана школьниками из Екатеринбурга для детей бойцов АНК, обучающихся в колледже им. Соломона Махлангу. Благодаря совместной работе архивистов и историков удалось найти не только личные фотографии участниц этой акции, но и газетные вырезки, в которых задокументирована эта фантастическая акция солидарности советских детей с южноафриканским народом».

🗂️The archival and documentary exhibition “Solidarity in Action: Recognising the Role of the Soviet Union and Cuba in Supporting the Struggle against Apartheid”
was opened in Cape Town. The exhibition was organised by the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) with the support of the Robben Island Museum.

The exhibition will run for six months at the Robben Island Museum Gallery, located at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront — the most popular and frequently visited area of Cape Town.

The solemn opening ceremony was attended by veterans of the African National Congress, Russian scholars, representatives of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Cape Town, diplomats from African countries, and members of the Friends of Cuba Society.

In his welcoming remarks, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Cape Town Mr Ruslan Golubovskiy stated:

“In today’s world, when the volume and diversity of information flows are constantly increasing, it is especially important to ensure public access to authentic historical records. The joint work of the Russian State University for the Humanities and the Robben Island Museum within the framework of this exhibition is aimed at preserving an objective view of past events and safeguarding them against distortion. Hosting the exhibition in one of the most significant and visited museums of South Africa provides an opportunity to convey the historical truth to a wide audience — from academic circles to students and tourists. This represents a meaningful contribution to the preservation of the memory of our common heritage.”

Also addressing the audience were Prof. Vera Zabotkina, Acting Vice-Rector for International Relations of RSUH, and Mr Aleksandr Zotin, Director of the RSUH Centre for African Studies. They emphasised that the exhibition constitutes a unique scholarly endeavour aimed at preserving the historical memory of the role played by the USSR and Cuba in assisting the peoples of Southern Africa in their struggle against colonialism and apartheid.

The project team, which included scholars from the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, succeeded in collecting and presenting unique materials, photographs, and testimonies from the personal archives of veterans of the anti-apartheid struggle — both Russian and South African.

According to Dr Daria Zelenova, expert of the RSUH Centre for African Studies and Head of the BRICS Africa Strategy Research Centre at the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences:

“Many of the materials have exceptional historical value. For instance, for the first time, the story is told of humanitarian assistance organised by schoolchildren from Yekaterinburg for the children of ANC fighters studying at the Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College. Thanks to the joint work of archivists and historians, it was possible to uncover not only personal photographs of the participants of this initiative, but also newspaper clippings documenting this remarkable act of solidarity demonstrated by Soviet children with the people of South Africa.”

🌍 Юный соотечественник из ЮАР посетил международную смену в «Артеке»

Владимир, наш юный соотечественник из Кейптауна, этим летом стал участником 9-й смены Международного детского центра «Артек», которая прошла в августе 2025 года и была посвящена 100-летию легендарного лагеря.

Ещё весной он узнал о конкурсе, который проводил Молодёжный клуб «Друзья Артека» Русского Дома в Ливане. Одним из условий участия было представить пять личных достижений. Для Владимира это оказалось несложной задачей: он занимается музыкой в школе Beau Soleil в Винберге (фортепиано и гобой), поёт в Cape Town Children’s Choir и неоднократно становился лауреатом олимпиад по сольфеджио. Его хор участвовал в престижных концертах вместе с Филармоническим оркестром Кейптауна и получил благодарственное письмо от дирижёра Александра Леви за выступление с рождественской кантатой.

Так Владимир оказался в числе победителей конкурса и отправился в Артек. 6 августа 2025 года международная детская делегация из 26 стран мира начала своё путешествие на 9-ю смену.

Ребят ждали купание в Чёрном море, спортивные мероприятия, экскурсии по Крыму, поездки в Севастополь и Ливадию, прогулки на катере и поход на гору Аю-Даг. Участники познакомились с историей партизанского движения в годы Великой Отечественной войны, участвовали в вечерних кострах и концертах.

Особое место в программе заняла викторина, посвящённая странам-участницам смены. Владимир подготовил вопросы о культуре, истории и географии Южной Африки и представил национальный костюм, отражающий этнический колорит своей страны.

Вернувшись в Кейптаун, Владимир поделился своими впечатлениями:

«Артек — это удивительное место, где дети со всего мира становятся друзьями. Для меня это был настоящий праздник дружбы, творчества и новых открытий».

🌍 A Young Compatriot from South Africa Visited the International Session at “Artek”

This summer, Vladimir, our young compatriot from Cape Town, took part in the 9th session of the International Children’s Center Artek, held in August 2025 and dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the legendary camp.

Back in spring, he learned about the competition organized by the Youth Club Friends of Artek of the Russian House in Lebanon. One of the conditions for participation was to present five personal achievements. For Vladimir, this task was not difficult: he studies music at Beau Soleil School in Wynberg (piano and oboe), sings in the Cape Town Children’s Choir, and has repeatedly become a laureate of solfeggio competitions. His choir has performed in prestigious concerts together with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and even received a letter of appreciation from conductor Alexander Levi for their performance of a Christmas cantata.

Thanks to these achievements, Vladimir became one of the winners of the competition and headed to Artek. On 6 August 2025, the international children’s delegation from 26 countries of the world began their journey to the 9th session.

The program offered swimming in the Black Sea, sports activities, excursions around Crimea, trips to Sevastopol, boat rides and a hike up Mount Ayu-Dag. The participants learned about the partisan movement during the Great Patriotic War, gathered around evening bonfires, and took part in concerts.

A special highlight was a quiz dedicated to the countries represented at the session. Vladimir prepared questions about the culture, history, and geography of South Africa and presented a national costume reflecting the country’s ethnic diversity.

Upon returning to Cape Town, Vladimir shared his impressions:

“Artek is a wonderful place where children from all over the world become friends. For me, it was a true celebration of friendship, creativity, and new discoveries.”
