◼️ June 22 is the #DayOfMemoryAndSorrow in Russia, the the most tragic date in the modern history of our country.
On this day 8️⃣4️⃣ years ago — on June 22, 1941 — the Soviet Union was attacked, unprovoked and without a declaration of war, by the Nazi Germany and its European cronies, which unleashed the full might of its vicious war machine. For our people on that day the Great Patriotic War began — the bloodiest and most brutal, devastating and terrible war, which lasted 1418 days and claimed lives of some 27 million Soviet citizens.
Obsessed with the ideas of racial superiority, the Hitlerites and their henchmen in Europe planned to wipe entire nations off the face of the Earth, and the survivors left — to turn into slaves of the Third Reich. The Germans invaded our country with one goal — to physically annihilate the Soviet people, to destroy our nation's centuries-old cultural and spiritual heritage — the Nazis and their allies carried out a genocide.
2️⃣2️⃣.0️⃣6️⃣.1️⃣9️⃣4️⃣1️⃣
At dawn at 4 am, the enemy aviation launched massive strikes on airfields, railway stations, Soviet naval bases, deployments of the Red Army forces and cities along the entire western state border of the USSR to a depth of up to 250-300 km. Together with Nazi Germany, Romania, Italy, Finland and other states allied to the Third Reich took part in the aggression. The industries of almost the entire continental Europe served the aggressors.
The people of the USSR were informed on the radio about the attack by the Nazis and, thus, the beginning of the war. At noon on June 22, 1941, the People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs, Vyacheslav Molotov, on behalf of the Soviet leadership addressed the nation:
It was the Soviet Union that bore the main burden of the Nazi aggression in Europe. It was the Soviet Victorious People who showed unparalleled heroism, courage and fortitude, fighting to the last drop of blood for the freedom of our Motherland, crushed Nazism and saved Europe from the Nazi 'plague'. It was on the Eastern Front of the European theater of #WWII that the Nazis and their henchmen lost more than 75% of their forces fighting the Red Army.
🌟 The Great Victory was achieved at a high price. The Soviet Union's losses amounted to 40% of all human casualties during WWII — almost 27 million people. Of these, more than 8.7 million perished on the battlefield, 7.42 million people were deliberately and cold-bloodedly killed by the Nazis. Over 5 million Soviet citizens were taken into slavery and moved to Germany and Reich-occupied European countries.
To this day June 22 still echoes in the hearts of all Russians with grief, sorrow and pain for the lives lost and fates of entire generations broken. There is no family in our country and in the former Republics of the Soviet Union that was not affected by that terrible war. There is #NoStatuteOfLimitations for the crimes committed by the Nazis and their collaborators on our land. On this day, we bow our heads in memory of our ancestors who perished during the Great Patriotic War.
🎙 Excerpt from the comment by Russian MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the occasion of the Day of Memory and Sorrow (June 21, 2025):

This unheard-of attack on our nation, despite the non-aggression Treaty between the USSR and Germany, is unprecedented in the history of civilized nations."<...>
Our cause is right. The enemy shall be defeated. Victory will be ours!"

💬 "Unlike the "collective West", we do not divide the victims of the Nazis into categories — they all deserve justice and for their executioners to be punished.
We, regardless of race, nationality and religion, mourn the 2.6 million Jewish citizens of the USSR, millions of Slavs and representatives of other ethnic groups of the multinational Soviet people who became victims of genocide".

🎙 Statement by Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vassily Nebenzia at a UNSC Briefing following US Strikes on Iran (New York, June 22, 2025).
💬 Vassily Nebenzia: Russia vehemently condemns the irresponsible, dangerous, and provocative actions taken by the USA against the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI), which is a sovereign country and a UN member state.
In doing so, Washington has yet again demonstrated its complete disregard for the position of the international community and reasserted that to advance the interests of its Israeli ally, it is prepared not only to turn a blind eye to the killings of tens of thousands of Palestinian women, children, and elderly people, but also to gamble with the safety and well-being of all humanity.
❗️ Through its actions, the US has opened Pandora's box, and no one knows what new consequences this may lead to.
Over the past ten days, we heard already three briefings by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi; he warned that strikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure are fraught with completely unpredictable repercussions and will jeopardize nuclear safety and security not only in Iran but also in the region and the entire world. However, Washington is completely unconcerned about either the radiological consequences or the threat to the lives and health of a huge number of civilians, including women and children, in the region and beyond.
Much like West Jerusalem, Washington sees itself as the highest judge in the land vested with the right to deliver justice at its sole discretion. Thus, the US reaffirms that in order to preserve its global hegemony, it is ready to commit any crimes and violations of international law.
We have persistently offered our American colleagues our mediation services so as to find a peaceful and mutually agreeable solution to the contradictions surrounding the Iranian nuclear program. But it appears that diplomacy is not what our US colleagues currently need. Responsibility for all this falls squarely on the shoulders of the American leadership.
Let me remind you how, back in 2003, in this very chamber, US Secretary of State Colin Powell was waving around a vial to justify Washington's plans to invade the territory of another sovereign state – this was done only to plunge the people of that country into decades of chaos and find no weapons of mass destruction there.
Today's situation is essentially no different: yet again, we are being asked to believe US’s fairy tales in order to once again inflict suffering on millions of people living in the Middle East. This cements our conviction that our US colleagues have learned nothing from history.
Russian Federation, China, and Pakistan prepared and circulated this morning a concise and balanced UNSC draft resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and for a search for a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear program.

❗From the interview of Marat #Berdyev, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry and Russia’s #G20 Sous-Sherpa, to TASS (June 21, 2025):
• South Africa’s Presidency of the G20 is shaped through the lens of the Ubuntu philosophy — "I am because we are." I believe this is especially relevant now, as the world is torn apart by geopolitical confrontations, trade wars, and other destructive processes fragmenting both the political and economic landscape.
• In 2023, the G20 welcomed a new member for the first time: the African Union. This only strengthened the voice of the Global South on the platform.
• We believe that this unique global forum — where developed and developing countries sit together — is vital for addressing today’s enormous global challenges. What’s needed is collective action. In this regard, emerging economies are acting constructively and productively, contributing to the G20’s work as a positive force.
• On the "Ukrainization" of the G20 agenda — indeed, since the start of the special military operation, the West has launched a large-scale anti-Russian campaign <...>. But if you track the evolution of G20 language and how agreements are being shaped, you’ll see a clear shift: the international community is beginning to grasp the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine and that it does not exist in a vacuum. It’s part of a broader geopolitical struggle the West is waging against countries it sees as competitors.
• The G20 is not immune to the broader trend affecting many international platforms — a growing divergence of views on key global issues. This reality makes it harder to find common solutions.
❗Russia’s position is clear: the G20 is primarily an economic forum. Regardless of geopolitical events, we should not turn it into a substitute for platforms like the UN Security Council, which are designed to handle such matters. We must focus on the pressing socio-economic issues for which the G20 was originally created — finding tools and opportunities to maintain high growth rates and sustainable development.
• The United States' participation in G20 processes has been sporadic. They haven’t withdrawn or entirely disengaged from G20 consultations, but their involvement has been selective and irregular. So far, they haven’t blocked proceedings or created insurmountable obstacles to the G20’s functioning. How they’ll behave going forward remains to be seen. The upcoming Sherpa meeting may offer some clarity.

📄 Report by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on the human rights situation in Ukraine (June 18, 2025)
✍️ This report continues the Ministry's efforts to draw the attention of the international community to the grave human rights situation in Ukraine. The numerous facts of human rights violations confirm that the situation in this area in Ukraine has seriously deteriorated by now.
It is quite clear by now that Ukraine is ruled by an openly Nazi regime following in all respects its ideological Nazi German inspirators and on this path committing countless gross and systematic human rights violations in all spheres of public life.
☝️ This regime, having adopted the ideology and practices of Ukrainian radical nationalists, has essentially degenerated into a neo-Nazi dictatorship. It needs a state of war and widest range of repressive measures as the only and, at the same time, safest way to maintain its dominance. It exists as long as the escalation degree remains high in society, and armed confrontation with an external enemy continues. For these purposes, the West is providing it with massive, primarily military, assistance. The end of conflict would be tantamount to the end of existence of such a regime.
❗️It is obvious that today citizens of Ukraine are indeed legally deprived of the overwhelming majority of rights and freedoms that exist in all countries of the world. Persecution of political opponents, independent journalists and media outlets, and civil society activists undesirable for authorities, has taken on an unprecedented scale; as a rule, it is accompanied by references to the need to combat "the Russian aggression" and "separatism". Russian-speaking residents of Ukraine are subject to a greater degree of persecution.
