Lately I have been trying to learn docker. Here are a few things:
- Containers & Images: Packaging apps with their dependencies so they run identically on any machine. Image is packaged snapshot of everything an application needs to run. Container is running instance of Image. Image is like a recipe and Container is the output of a recipe.
- Dockerfiles: Writing step-by-step instructions (FROM, COPY, RUN, CMD) to automate image building.
- Ports & Volumes: Mapping ports to access apps locally, and mounting volumes for live code updates (Hot Reloading) and database data persistence.
- Docker Compose: Managing a full-stack application (React + Node + MongoDB) in a single docker-compose.yml file using one command (docker compose up).
