A Powerful Dhikr That Erases 100 Sins and Records 100 Good Deeds: Say It 100 Times to Receive 5 Great Blessings from Allah!

The Virtue of Truthfulness and Striving to Be Truthful

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

And his statement ﷺ:

“Indeed, a man continues to speak the truth until he is recorded with Allah as a truthful one (ṣiddīq).”

And in another narration:

“A man continues to speak the truth and strive to be truthful until he is recorded with Allah as a truthful one (ṣiddīq).”

The ṣiddīq is in the second rank from the ranks of creation among those whom Allah has bestowed His favour upon, as Allah, Glorified and Exalted, said:

﴿ وَمَن يُطِعِ اللَّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ النَّبِيِّينَ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ وَالشُّهَدَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِينَ ﴾
“And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, then they will be with those upon whom Allah has bestowed His Grace: the Prophets, the truthful ones, the martyrs, and the righteous.” [Al-Nisāʾ: 69]

So the person who strives to be truthful is recorded with Allah as a ṣiddīq. And it is well known that the rank of ṣiddīqiyyah is a tremendous rank which none attain except a select few among the people.

And this rank exists among men and among women. Allah, the Most High, said:

﴿ مَا الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ إِلَّا رَسُولٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِ الرُّسُلُ وَأُمُّهُ صِدِّيقَةٌ ﴾
“The Messiah, son of Maryam, was no more than a Messenger; many were the Messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a truthful woman.” [Al-Māʾidah: 75]

The Explanation of Sūrah al-ʿAṣr

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

As for the second proof regarding cooperation upon righteousness and piety, it is what the author, may Allah have mercy upon him, mentioned from Sūrah al-ʿAṣr, where Allah, the Most High, said:

﴿ وَالْعَصْرِ ﴾ ﴿ إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ ﴾ ﴿ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ ﴾
“By Al-ʿAṣr (the time). Verily, man is in loss, except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth, and recommend one another to patience.”

So Allah, the Most High, swore by al-ʿAṣr, which is time. And the people within it are of two kinds: among them are those who fill it with good, and among them are those who fill it with evil. Thus, He swore by al-ʿAṣr because of the suitability between what is sworn by and what is sworn about, namely the deeds of the servants.

So He said:

“Indeed, mankind is in loss.”

The word al-insān (mankind) is general; it includes every human being: believer and disbeliever, righteous and sinful, male and female. Every person is in loss. All of his deeds are a cause of loss for him: exhaustion in this worldly life and no benefit in the Hereafter—except the one who gathers these four qualities:

﴿ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ ﴾
“Except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth, and recommend one another to patience.”

So they rectified themselves through faith and righteous deeds, and they rectified others through advising one another with the truth and advising one another with patience.

Advice Regarding Welcoming the First Ten Days of Dhul-Ḥijjah

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

The first ten days of Dhul-Ḥijjah begin with the start of the month of Dhul-Ḥijjah and end on the Day of Sacrifice (ʿEid al-Naḥr). Regarding deeds performed in these days, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.”

They said: “Not even jihād in the path of Allah?”

He ﷺ said:

“Not even jihād in the path of Allah, except for a man who goes out with his life and wealth and returns with nothing from that.”

Based on this, I urge my Muslim brothers to seize this tremendous opportunity and to increase during the first ten days of Dhul-Ḥijjah in righteous deeds, such as recitation of the Qur’an, remembrance of Allah in all its forms: saying Allāhu Akbar (takbīr), Lā ilāha illallāh (tahlīl), Al-ḥamdulillāh (taḥmīd), Subḥānallāh (tasbīḥ), as well as charity, fasting, and all righteous deeds.

It is astonishing that people are heedless regarding these ten days. You find them striving hard in worship during the last ten nights of Ramaḍān, but during the first ten days of Dhul-Ḥijjah you hardly find anyone distinguishing them from other days.

However, if a person performs righteous deeds during these ten days, reviving what the Prophet ﷺ directed toward of righteous actions, then he is upon tremendous goodness.

When these ten days begin, if a person intends to offer a sacrifice, then he should not take anything from his hair, his nails, or his skin. He should not remove anything from any of these if he intends to offer a sacrifice.

As for the one on whose behalf the sacrifice is being offered, then there is no problem regarding him.

Therefore, if a person wishes to offer one sacrifice on behalf of himself and his household—as is the Sunnah—then the members of the household are not required to refrain from cutting their hair, nails, or skin, because the Prophet ﷺ said:

“When one of you intends to offer a sacrifice, then let him not take anything from his hair, skin, or nails.”

So the address is directed to the one who intends to offer the sacrifice.

But if someone were to say: If the person intending to offer the sacrifice travels for ḥajj, he will perform ʿumrah and shorten his hair, even though he instructed his family to offer the sacrifice on his behalf?

We say: This does not harm, because shortening the hair in ʿumrah is a rite that must be performed. Likewise, shortening or shaving the hair in ḥajj is permissible and there is no issue with it.

The Three Sacred Tens Venerated by the Righteous Predecessors

Abū ʿUthmān al-Nahdī, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“They used to venerate three sets of ten days:

The last ten days of Ramaḍān,

the first ten days of Dhul-Ḥijjah,

and the first ten days of Muḥarram.”

The Ten Days of Dhul-Ḥijjah

As for the recommendation of increasing in dhikr (remembrance of Allah) during them, then the statement of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, indicates this:

“And mention the Name of Allah on known days.” [Al-Ḥajj: 28]

For indeed, the “known days” are the days of the ten according to the majority of the scholars.

And in the Musnad of Imam Aḥmad, from Ibn ʿUmar, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet ﷺ, that he said:

“There are no days greater with Allah, nor more beloved to Him for deeds to be performed in them, than these ten days. So increase in them in saying Lā ilāha illallāh, Allahu Akbar, and Alḥamdulillāh.”

The Greatest Days of the Year Have Now Entered — Will You Rise, or Be Left Behind?

My dear brothers and sisters,

We have now entered the greatest days of the year — the ten days of Dhul-Ḥijjah — days that Allah Himself swore by in His Book: {By the dawn, and the ten nights} [Al-Fajr: 1-2]. The scholars of tafsīr, including Ibn ʿAbbās and the majority of the Salaf, affirmed: these ten nights are the first ten of Dhul-Ḥijjah.

Imām Ibn Rajab — may Allah have mercy on him — said in Fatḥ al-Bārī (9/16): “The supererogatory acts in the ten days of Dhul-Ḥijjah are more virtuous than those of the ten days of Ramaḍān. And likewise, the obligatory acts are multiplied more in these ten days than in any others.”

So pause, O servant of Allah, and reflect: how will you greet these days that your Lord has magnified? Days whose hours outweigh the rest of the year in reward, days in which every good deed is beloved to Allah, and nights in which the righteous did not sleep out of yearning to worship.

Abū ʿUthmān al-Nahdī said: “They used to venerate three tens: the last ten of Ramaḍān, the first ten of Dhul-Ḥijjah, and the first ten of Muḥarram.” [Laṭā’if al-Maʿārif, p. 35]

Ibn Rajab further explained that reward is multiplied due to three factors:

• The honour of the place — like Makkah and Madīnah.

• The honour of the time — such as Ramaḍān and the ten of Dhul-Ḥijjah.

• The honour of the doer — his taqwā and closeness to Allah. [Laṭā’if al-Maʿārif, p. 269]

And what an honourable time we are now in!

The days are for fasting and action. Ibn ʿUmar — may Allah be pleased with him — used to fast all ten days. Ibn Sirīn and Qatādah said: “Fasting each day of the ten equals a whole year.” [Laṭā’if al-Maʿārif, p. 459]

The nights are for standing and devotion. Saʿīd ibn Jubayr — the student of Ibn ʿAbbās — when the ten began, would exert himself in worship so intensely that he could hardly bear it. He said: “Do not extinguish your lamps during the ten nights — for worship pleases me.” [Laṭā’if al-Maʿārif, p. 460]

And the days are for dhikr. Allah said: {And mention the name of Allah on known days} [Al-Ḥajj: 28], which the scholars explain as the ten days of Dhul-Ḥijjah.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “There are no days greater in the sight of Allah, nor in which deeds are more beloved to Him, than these ten days. So increase in them your saying of Lā ilāha illa Allāh, Allahu Akbar, and al-Ḥamdu lillāh.” [Musnad Aḥmad, reported by Ibn ʿUmar]

So do not let these precious days slip through your fingers. Fast them if you can. Revive your nights with Qur’an and prayer. Fill your tongue with takbīr, tahmīd, and tahlīl. Guard your obligations — for every farḍ is now worth more. Give charity. Honour your parents. Pray in congregation. Guard your heart from sin.

For in these ten days, one step toward Allah is multiplied beyond measure — and whoever is blessed to succeed in them, it is a sign that Allah loves him and wants good for him.

O Allah, make these days a means of our elevation. Do not deprive us of their reward. Make us among those who venerate what You have magnified, and bless us with accepted deeds, purified hearts, and nearness to You in both this world and the next.
