Since minutes after the building collapsed, first responders have worked around the clock to find survivors in Surfside. These are the heroes — Casey DeSantis and I thank them.
My administration continues to work with FEMA to support the Surfside community. Today, I visited the family assistance center with representatives from FEMA, non-profits, and state agencies whose mission it is to help Surfside families get back on their feet.
Casey DeSantis and I took a moment to thank first responders who haven’t stopped working for five days in the Surfside relief and recovery efforts. Thank you to the hundreds of first responders and law enforcement on scene, and the countless volunteers for your selfless work.
Thank you MDFR Chief for your team’s ongoing rescue efforts at Surfside. The Miami-Dade search and rescue teams are the best in the world and are working hard to find survivors – their dedication is commendable.
This is the first time in Florida’s history that all eight Urban Search and Rescue teams have been deployed, outside of hurricane response efforts. These brave men and women have worked a combined total of over 22,000 hours to continue the search and rescue mission.
Casey DeSantis and I want the first responders, Surfside families and community to have the support they need during the ongoing search and rescue mission. Visit http://surfsidestrength.com to find mental health resources for those affected by this tragedy.
Our first responders in Surfside have exemplified strength and determination during the most trying circumstances. We’ll continue to provide the resources they need. http://SurfsideStrength.com connects both tragedy victims and first responders with resources they need to persevere.
Casey DeSantis and I thank the volunteers, first responders, law enforcement, and search teams for your unwavering dedication to supporting Surfside. The Surfside community knows that you are doing all you can during the search & rescue mission following this horrible tragedy.
While we continue to support Surfside and monitor ongoing search efforts, we are also preparing for potential effects from Tropical Storm #Elsa. NHC Atlantic predicts this storm could impact Florida early next week. Please follow FLSERT for developments over the coming days.
More than 440 USAR members from New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, and Indiana are on the ground in Surfside to help supplement the search and rescue efforts. Florida is grateful for the outpouring of support. Thanks to Royal Caribbean for providing accommodations!
We mourn for those we lost in Surfside and pray for a miracle. The people lost had impacts on their community, our state, our country, and the world. The families of Surfside are in our hearts and prayers. Florida and America stand with Surfside.
#Elsa is currently a strong tropical storm on a track to impact Florida by Monday. Florida is working with local authorities to safely secure the Surfside site ahead of the storm. Follow FLSERT for the latest storm updates.

Thanks to the leaders of the Florida State Legislature, Chris Sprowls and Wilton Simpson, for accompanying me to the Miami-Dade EOC and Surfside today, and for supporting our response efforts.
We are continuing to closely monitor #Elsa. All Floridians should prepare for the possibility of heavy rain, flooding and potential power outages. Now is the time to restock your supplies and review your hurricane plan. Follow FLSERT for updates throughout the coming days.
Happy Independence Day! As President Coolidge observed, the date July 4, 1776, reverberates not simply because the Founders declared a new nation, but because they did so using new principles that changed the world forever.
